“What must I do to be saved?” was the question of the rich young man. And frankly ours as well. Rote, mechanical adherence to the do's and dont's is easy. But genuine, out-of-the-heart care, concern, and love for others especially those we want to hate? And we're scratching heads...

In so keeping the law and following the rules strictly and tightly, we sometimes completely miss the whole point of why we do so.

Laws are made to love. God made the Commandments because He loved us. Laws of the land are created for order and love to exist among the people.

The words 'Love' and 'Holiness' may seem different in many ways, but one can also say that they are actually one and the same.
Pastor Jesame von Tronchin tells us of this powerful sentence during the "Holiness" Thursday Discussion, also reminding us that in the New Testament, it says 'God is Love' as well as Two of the Ten Commandments being love for God and love for thy neighbor. When we take these two things in mind, we practice both love and holiness! Thank you, Pastor, for this reminder!

When we think of the word Holiness, we may think of a pastor continually living a life of Christ. We may think of volunteers who consistently help their communities through ministry. Essentially, we think of those who can do no wrong and stays active in preaching God's Word through many actions.
Fortunately, there are more ways to be declared as holy in God's eyes! The gospel states that God replaces our unrighteousness with His holiness when we put our trust in Christ. Therefore, if we put our trust in God and maintain our relationship with Him, God gives us His holiness. With that said, Pastor Jesame also mentions in the discussion that when we have a relationship with Christ, we are able to have a proper relationship with our fellow neighbors or brothers or sisters in Christ. God's holiness is able to bind us all together, and in order for us to do that, we must maintain our own relationship with God. Thank you, Pastor Jesame von Tronchin, for this reminder!

Those are the words that came to mind when we heard about persecution. Though the word itself sounds adversarial, the truth is that it cannot extinguish the resilience of our human spirit. In the face of persecution, we often discover depths of courage and strength we never knew existed. Throughout history, we have seen countless individuals and communities rise above persecution to bring about positive change and inspire others. Yeah, persecution seems to seek to divide, to break, and to silence, but somehow it can also unite, fortify, and amplify the voices of those who endure it. It is in the crucible of persecution that heroes are born and change is ignited.

This is our topic for the whole month of October. We will explore the life of Paul, formerly known as Saul, a well-known persecutor. As we understand and relate to his life, we will embark on the journey of discipleship in Christ.

Meet Jasper Ivan Ituriaga or Pastor Jasper. He has traveled to around 50 countries across almost all continents, including even North Korea! Everything is going well, until the pandemic happens and he can not simply travel. But right now, he is with his friend, Daniel, doing medical missions and building jungle schools in Brooke's Point, Palawan. When asked in a podcast where he saw himself in 10 years, he answered,

"When I was a pastor, I knew God wanted me to be a filmmaker, but I still tried to be a pastor because everyone around me says the highest calling ever given to a man is to be a pastor and a preacher. So I tried that, but I know deep inside my heart I can't speak. That's not where God wants me to be. So my prayer is, "Lord, is this where you want me to be?" and I'd rather be in a storm with Jesus than in my little boat of safety without Him.

I just wanted to be where God wanted me to be. "
