Before my birthday this year, I was thinking of a way to celebrate. As usual, I just want to spend the day with my family, nothing fancy. But I want to remember my 31st birthday because it has been my strongest year, I guess. I fought a lot of silent battles.

Then I saw a facebook post of my friend. She donated her hair for cancer patients through a hair cut from a salon who is in collaboration with Hair For Hope. Hair for Hope provides free wigs for cancer patients.

Right that moment, I messaged my friend and asked how can I do the same. So I booked an appointment on April 30, 2024, two days before my birthday.

I kept on receiving comments that I could have sold my hair for a good price but I just smiled. I may not have received a single penny for my precious locks which I took care for more than 3 years but what I received was priceless.

When I donated my hair, I knew it will give hope to a cancer patient. Someone who has been a fighter since the moment he/she knew his/her condition. But little did I know, it was me who found hope and light for my own life. I kept on doubting myself and invalidating my efforts of trying to be better one day at a time. I forgot that I am also a fighter. Thanks to this experience. As they say, we rise by lifting others.

Stress reliever nyo din ba ang pag-uukay?

Iba kasi yung saya na binibigay ng ukay-ukay diba? Yung makabili ng damit na halagang sampung piso, bente, tatlo isang daan. Sapatos na tag-two hundred fifty. Bag na tig-singkwenta.

Ang labanan ay pamurahan pero pagandahan ng nabili. Ukay challenge na sa halagang five hundred pesos meron ng damit, bag at sapatos? Game!

Kaya pag may nagsasabi na,

"Bakit nag-uukay ka pa madami din namang mura na brand new pa?"

Kasi masaya. Yung paghahanap, pagkakalkal, pag-hawi ng hangeran, tapos yung rewarding feeling pag may nakita ka na talagang kikinang yung mata mo at maiisip mo na naka-jackpot ka. Ayaw mo ng bitawan kahit di mo sigurado kung kasya kasi naka-abang yung nasa likod mo na palihim na nag-aabang kung ibabalik mo. 🤣🤭

Tapos pag nirampa mo na mga na-ukay mo akala nila gumastos ka sa outfit mo. Di nila alam tagaktak lang pawis mo paghahanap at umiyak kilikili mo sa pagsusukat pero hindi nabutas bulsa mo. 🤣🤣

So get out of the house, travel, walk out, go to the park, go to a gym, eat what provokes you, fix yourself, sleep later, put on clothes you like, be yourself, take care of yourself, love yourself, and do it. Exclusively for you.

Children grow up and leave, husband doesn't always stay, work easily replace you, house will get dirty again, but your emotional health is also worth and you may not get a second chance.

Akala ko hindi nya mapapansin na umiiyak ako kasi busy pa sya maglaro ng blocks nya. Tahimik lang ako na nagpupunas ng luha at nakatalikod sa kanya pero narinig nya siguro yung pagsinghot ko kaya lumapit sya. Sabi nya "Mommy, do this".

Nag-inhale & exhale sya. Ginaya ko. Sabi nya, "do it again". Dito palang lalo ako naiyak pero pinipigilan ko. Nag-smile ako sa kanya kasi hindi ko alam pero basta. Masaya ako na hindi ko maipaliwanag. Nakalimutan ko sandali yung iniiyakan ko.

"Are you feeling better now?" Lalo lang ako naiyak. Niyakap ko lang sya at umiyak ng umiyak pero pagkatapos ang gaan ng pakiramdam ko. 😭😭😭😭

Hinga ng malalim tapos hinga ng maluwag. It never made me feel better like it did today. Salamat, anak.

Gusto ko maalala itong moment na ito. Paglaki mo ipapaalala ko sayo anak na isang gabi nung 3 yrs old ka palang, sobrang bigat ng pakiramdam ni mommy. Akala nya you were to young and hindi mo maiintindihan. Pero kahit hindi mo alam at hindi mo naiintindihan, ikaw yung nagturo kay mommy ano dapat gawin to feel better. Lagi ko tong aalalahanin kahit nasan ako anak. Kapag nalulungkot, nahihirapan, naiiyak, hinga ng malalim at hinga ng maluwag.

Ako yung talagang ma-raket sa amin pero mula bf/gf hanggang sa magpakasal kami, hindi lang nya sinuportahan yung mga ginagawa ko kundi inaral nya para matulungan nya ko. Pagod sa 8-5 na trabaho pero kailangan pa rin kumayod ng extra. Kinaya namin kasi magkasama kami.

Gumagaan yung mabigat kapag may kasama kang pumasan.

Salamat, Tay. Salamat kasi para sayo hindi kahinaan o kabawasan sa pagkalalake ang pagtulong sa asawa sa mga gawain na ipinamulat satin na para sa mga babae lang. Hindi rin kabawasan sa pagkalalake kung kailangan na katuwang sa paghahanap-buhay ang ina ng tahanan. Salamat sa laging pag-una sa kapakanan ng pamilya natin kaysa sa pag-intindi ng opinyon ng iba.

Sabi nga ni Alab, "Daddy you're the besttttt".

Hindi naman ako tumataya, pero naka-jackpot ako sayo. Labyu!!!
