"sana all matalino sa math" sige parinig pa more sa mga accounting students
The pandemic has really brought big, real changes and redirection to people's lives. Everything was very uncertain especially during its peak. Board exams were canceled and even reviewing for the boards was not a priority.
After graduation, I immediately started looking for a job. A Filipino thing where the faster you get a job after graduating from college, the better image you'll have from people, lol. To earn money was the priority back then and I landed a good job fortunately.
The passion for taking and eventually passing the CPA board exam was slowly dying while I was working. Now, two years in the audit world, I feel like there is no significant reason for me to take the boards. I can provide for myself and my family, I have peace of mind and I'm enjoying life, what else do I want aside from that? I can't even figure out the reason why I took accountancy in the first place. I just know I wanna have a good and peaceful and fun life while I'm still breathing.
"I am not taking the boards anymore." That's what I told myself before but last May this year, I changed my mind. I always tell myself that "nothing matters" so as part of this mantra, I wanted to see myself taking those risks I never did before. I pretty did well academically while I was in school so the sky-high expectations from my family and other people for me to succeed in life are always there.
Before, I thought I was afraid of disappointing these people if they come to know that I did not pass the boards but the truth is, I was more afraid of disappointing myself. I graduated as valedictorian both in elementary and high school and with Latin honors in college (class salutatorian). "What if I fail the board exam on my first take?" This question keeps on lingering in my entire system.
I have no particular reason why I'm taking it. To have a suffix in my name? To have a valid ID? To brag if I passed it? To make my parents and relatives proud of me? To prove to myself that I can ace the boards? To have an advantage in climbing the corporate ladder? I don't even know. What I know is if I can pass the board exam, then I can do anything.
On another note, it really is a privilege for me to even consider taking the boards. And it is also a really great privilege for others to take the boards without thinking of anything but passing it eventually. I feel like there are a lot of accountancy graduates who have responsibilities which are never theirs to begin with and setting aside the board exam is just one of the consequences.
This is just me sending virtual hugs to all who have redirected their priorities in life. This is me reminding you to take one step at a time. We all have our priorities even if some do not understand it. Please continue reaching your dreams even if you feel like you are alone in the journey. You have not come this far to only come this far, as they say. Please be kind and empathize with the dreams of others. Be genuinely happy with others' milestones and achievements. Achieving your goals is just a matter of time. Just trust the whole process. This is a reminder to you and more of like a reminder to myself also. I am rooting for all of us!
Love,
zero
Trivia: AJ Edu, big man of Gilas Pilipinas team, graduated cm laude with the degree in Accountancy from University of Toledo, Ohio. Recently, he finished his Masterโs degree in Administration from the same university.

Just asking po pero alam kong okay kayo lahat kasi pindot-pindot lang naman daw ng calcu ang Accountancy kahit elementary daw kaya ang ginagawa niyo, wag po tayo OA, opo. ๐
