Baras Senior High School Implements DepEd's National Learning Camp Amidst Typhoon Challenge

Baras, Rizal - On July 27, 2023, Baras Senior High School commenced the implementation of the highly anticipated DepEd's National Learning Camp (NLC). Originally scheduled to begin on Tuesday, the first day of the camp had to be postponed due to heavy rains and storm signals brought about by Typhoon Egay (internationally known as Doksuri). The school community remained resilient and eagerly embraced the camp's activities as it kicked off on Thursday.

Designed to address learning loss and foster a more engaging learning environment, the NLC offers a mix of fun camp activities, team building exercises, and interactive lectures. In addition to basic lectures, students engage in thrilling games and exciting activities, making their learning experience enjoyable and immersive.

The camp, comprising 30 students, represents a diverse group of Grade 12 learners from various academic strands, including STEM, HUMSS, and ABM from the Academic Track, as well as Home Economics, ICT Computer Programming, and ICT Computer Systems Servicing from the TVL Track.

The success of the NLC lies in the dedication and expertise of educators who play integral roles in this endeavor. Master Teachers Mia S. Sumigcay and Hazel Angelyn E. Tesoro, along with Teachers Parsly A. Tayag and Benedick A. Garrovillas, have taken charge of guiding the students through their learning journey. Sumigcay and Tayag lead the camp's activities for the first two weeks, followed by Tesoro and Garrovillas for the last two weeks, ensuring a well-rounded and dynamic learning experience for all participants.

"What excites me about the NLC is the reality that it allows me to expand my knowledge and study more things," according to Aprile Anne Joy E. Piguing, a HUMSS student.

Despite the initial weather challenge, school administrators, teachers, and students remain enthusiastic about the camp's potential to enrich their educational journey. The NLC will continue to be in session until August 25, 2023, and the school community is looking forward to the exciting days ahead.

BarasHenyos Implement DepEd's National Learning Camp 2023 πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ“–β›ΊοΈ

Baras, Rizal - In support of the MATATAG Basic Education Agenda and as a sub-program under the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), the Department of Education (DepEd) is gearing up to launch the National Learning Camp (NLC) during the 2022-2023 End-of-School Year (EOSY) break. Baras Senior High School took significant steps in preparation for the NLC with a crucial meeting held on July 24, 2023.

Chaired by Principal II Marco L. Lianza and Assistant School Principal II Ramier P. Jubay, the meeting was attended by educators who play integral roles in this endeavor, including Master Teacher I Hazel Angelyn E. Tesoro and Teacher II Benedick A. Garrovillas, who joined in-person, while Master Teacher I Mia S. Sumigcay and Teacher I Parsly A. Tayag participated via Google Meet.

The NLC is designed to address learning loss and bolster educational outcomes by providing a camp-like atmosphere through fun and engaging activities that foster learner interests, socio-emotional skills, personal growth, and character development. As a voluntary program, it will be implemented in a phased manner, initially focusing on Grades 7 and 8, with an emphasis on English, Science, and Mathematics.

In the case of senior high school learners (incoming Grade 12 students), it will serve as an advancement class. The NLC presents an advanced delivery of lessons, enabling learners to obtain their grades earlier than in a regular class setting, thereby alleviating the burden of additional workload at the start of the two semesters in the school year. Moreover, the integrative approach takes into consideration other competencies from various subjects that may be relevant to the current sessions. All necessary materials are provided to the students.

Running for three to five weeks, from July 24 to August 25, 2023, the NLC features three days of teacher-learner engagement and two days dedicated to collaborative expertise through Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions among teachers.

Baras Senior High School's implementation of the NLC will commence tomorrow, following a 3 by 2 setup, comprising three days of in-person classes and two days of modular/home-based learning. The subjects offered are English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP), an SHS Applied Track Subject, to be taught by Master Teachers Ma'am Mia S. Sumigcay and Ma'am Hazel Angelyn E. Tesoro, and Media and Information Literacy (MIL), an SHS Core Curriculum Subject, to be taught by Teachers Ma'am Parsly A. Tayag and Sir Benedick A. Garrovillas.

BarasHenyo learners will experience exciting, fun-filled activities and creative tasks, distinct from their regular class routine. The classes will be accommodated in the air-conditioned ICT Room (Room 305), with limited slots for 30 participants on a first-come, first-served, voluntary basis. The sessions will commence at 6:45 AM and conclude at 1 PM. While there is no school uniform requirement, students are expected to wear white shirt, jeans, closed shoes, and their school ID.

Furthermore, students are encouraged to take on the role of documenters, capturing and sharing their NLC experience with fellow students and other community stakeholders. The teachers, in turn, will be awarded service credits for the voluntary hours they dedicate to this activity.

BarasHenyos are enthusiastic about embarking on this enriching educational journey, and they remain dedicated to ensuring the success of the National Learning Camp 2023.

On the first day of School, our hearts are filled with excitement and nervousness and yet we thrive for ourselves, for our family, and for our future. It was a roller coaster of emotions, each day we entered the school to learn a whole new knowledge, catch up with friends, and participate in activities.
Happy memories that we created in Baras Senior High School were now stored in our memory. Sadly, we all have different paths to make but we share the same goals--which is to grow, to learn, and to be successful someday.
Right now, I must say that we made it. We are reaching the point where we are climbing and facing the real battle of life. It wasn't going to be easy but what's more important is we are Trying!
Graduates of '23, I would like to send you my gratitude for giving your best, every sleepless night is now paid off. Padayon!
