Enucleation Surgery

What is enucleation surgery and why does my pet need it?

- Enucleation is a surgery performed to remove a pet’s eye(s) or damaged eye. Most commonly, pets require enucleation surgery because of:
• Severe trauma to the eye
• Severe infection of the eye
• A buildup of pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
• Cancer in or around the eye (neoplasia)

Enucleation is usually considered a last resort procedure when other attempts to save the eye have failed. However, dogs and cats can adapt well to life with one eye and get back to their normal routines after a recovery period of about two weeks.

In line of the celebration of World Rabies Day on September 28 (Saturday), we will be having a free anti rabies vaccine for the first 20 cats and dogs on the same day!

The importance of vaccinating our pets is to create a healthy environment for everyone, to prevent spread of diseases as well as to have protection from various diseases such as rabies, which is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to both humans and animals.

Your pet must be:
- 3 months of age
- preferably 1kg and above
- with updated deworming at least a week or more
- acquired at least a week or more
- no history of biting/injury
- no ongoing medications
- apparently healthy

Getting your dog and cat vaccinated is an important part of taking good care of them and signifies responsible pet ownership. These vaccines protect your fur baby from different diseases that can be life-threatening.

We usually start puppy vaccinations at the age of 6-8 weeks, and for the kitten vaccinations are age of 6-14 weeks and we'll formulate the vaccine schedule according to that puppies and kittens prior history and age.

A catheter is a tube that is inserted into your bladder, allowing your urine to drain freely.
The most common reasons for using catheter are:
- to rest the bladder following an episode of urinary retention
- to rest the bladder after surgery — most commonly bladder, bowel or urinary tract surgery

Symptoms that may indicate a urinary obstruction in cats include:
• Unable to urinate, passing only a few drops of urine, straining, or frequently visiting the litter box. (It’s possible to misinterpret this for constipation, so always ask your veterinarian if you’re unsure.)
• Blood in urine
• Vocalization (whining/crying)
• Excessive licking of ge****ls or abdomen
• Pain when the abdomen is touched
• Vomiting
• Decreased appetite
• Lethargy
• Aggression due to pain

If your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms bring to vet immediately.
