Department of Tourism (DOT) honored Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) during its Caraga Tourism Stakeholders’ Summit and Pasidungog Awards 2023 on February 16, 2024 at Watergate Hotel, Pavilion, Butuan City, as it received a distinguished plaques of appreciation and recognition for its significant contributions in promoting excellence in tourism education.
The Pasidungog Awards, an annual event organized by the DOT recognizes the vital contributions and support of the local government units, private stakeholders and HEIs in addressing development concerns confronting the local tourism industry in Caraga.
SNSU was one of the National Awardees of FBSE Plaque of Recognition with training commendation award alongside St. Michale College of Caraga and Northeastern Mindanao State University. The plaques were received by the University President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., together with the Vice-President for Administration, Dr. Rowena A. Plando, and Vice-President of RIE, Dr. Romy Jun A. Sunico.
This serves as a testament to SNSU's unwavering commitment to excellence in tourism education, research, and advocacy, further solidifying its position as a key contributor to Surigao del Norte's tourism landscape.
The University Strategic Performance Review, 2024 Operational Planning, Quality Management System Review, and Gender and Development Updates were conducted at San Lorenzo Pastoral Center, Brgy. Ampayon, Butuan City on January 30-3, 2024. This activity was conducted to reflect on the University's achievements, plan for the future, and ensure the quality of the institution's services.
Over the past year, SNSU has achieved remarkable milestones, from academic accomplishments to community engagement initiatives. It's commitment to fostering innovation, inclusivity, and academic excellence remains unwavering.
The 2024 Operational Plan has explored the strategic initiatives and projects that will define the university's trajectory in the coming year. The collaborative efforts of SNSU officials in operational planning ensure that it will continue to adapt to the evolving landscape of education and provide an enriching experience for its students, faculty, and staff. Indeed, valuable insights and contributions were given by each participant as we charted our course for the upcoming year.
Ensuring the quality of academic programs and administrative processes is paramount. The Quality Management System Review provides a comprehensive understanding of how the University will maintain and enhance its quality education and services.
Lastly, updates in Gender and Development were presented to determine the current status of the initiatives in mainstreaming Gender and. Development all throughout the University.

SNSU RETAINS ITS ISO 9001:2015 RECERTIFICATION!
SNSU successfully retains its ISO recertification during the 2nd Surveillance Audit held on January 17-19, 2024 conducted by the external auditors from SOCOTEC, Mr. Mark Allan Balbarino and Ms. Marisse Cruz. The QAMS headed by Dr. Leonilyn G. Malicay along with its ISO team and process owners showcased their commitment through meticulous preparation of necessary documents. This reaffirms SNSU's consistent delivery of high-quality human resources and services, aligning seamlessly with statutory and regulatory standards of SOCOTEC.

SNSU’s performance exceeds National Passing Rate; BEEd graduates topped LET
Another milestone was attained by the SNSU as Mr. Christian Galito Mayordo from City Campus and Ms. Karen Mosquito Salem from Malimono Campus emerged to be top 8 in the recently released September 2023 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) result for Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEEd) program.
Moreover, the recent announcement has highlighted a great performance to both of its Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) graduates whose results in the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) have surpassed the national passing rate garnering a passing rate of 88. 37% and 84.40% respectively. Its very first in the secondary program.
Indeed, surpassing the national passing rate in the LET is no small feat. Such underscores the graduate's mastery of the subject matter and pedagogical skills. This achievement is not only a personal triumph for the graduate but also a source of pride and the whole SNSU. Certainly, this is a symbol that the university is truly a hub of quality and excellence setting a benchmark for other educational establishments nationwide.
SNSU-PRAISE pays tribute to deserving employees during the “Gabi ng Parangal”
The Institutional Awards under the SNSU-Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Committee conferred the awards to those meritorious individuals or groups who have played significant roles to the progress and development of the university on December 15, 2023 at the SNSU Gymnasium.
PRAISE Committee bestowed the SNSU lapel pins to employees who served the university for more than 10 years in government service, Research and Extension Awards, Gawad Pangulo Award to the Vice-Presidents, Campus Directors, CAO-Finance and the former Vice-President for Academics, Dr. Emmylou A. Borja and lastly, the Best Employee Award to Ms. Mary Ann Narciso for non-teaching.
The Trailblazer in Education Award was bestowed as a surprise to the University President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., for his remarkable contribution and steadfast commitment to SNSU as an institution builder, academic leader and resource mobilizer that plays a pivotal role in the conversion of Surigao State College of Technology to Surigao del Norte State University.
SNSU culminates GAD Activity with Series of Talks on Laws related to VAW on December 15, 2023 at the SNSU Gymnasium
SNSU is one with the nation in celebrating the campaign of violence against women.
The GAD Activity culminated with Series of Talks on Laws related to VAW on December 15, 2023 at the SNSU Gymnasium. Dr. Richard S. Jimenez, Dr. Patrick John M. Lentejas and Dr. Henry Yap graced the celebration as Guest Speakers who talked on “Understanding the Various Forms of VAW”, “Legal Frameworks and Women’s Rights” and “Building Healthy Relationships” respectively.
The seminar's main goal was to reaffirm to all the employees the rights of women to be heard, the rights of women for a work-life balance, and to consider our mental health a priority.
In the one-month GAD Celebration, the administration issued Office Order No. 205 s. 2023 for "Orange Fridays," in which all employees are required to wear something orange every Friday from November 2023 to December 8, 2023, as part of the effort to spread awareness of Anti-VAW.
SNSU adheres to the recent issuance of the Localized Suspension of Classes and Work from PDRRMC effective December 4,2023 until further notice.
The recent PDRRMC issuance supersedes the Announcement posted yesterday.
DRRM Team is advised to report to duty in case of emergency and unavoidable circumstances.
Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) is COMPLIANT in the systems, practices, and competencies of the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM) during the onsite validation on November 13 -14, 2023 conducted by the assessors from the Civil Service Commission – Caraga Regional Office.
The assessment focused on the remaining Human Resource Core Systems of the university; the Rewards and Recognition (R&R) and the Learning and Development (L&D) in order to qualify the bronze award in the implementation of the PRIME-HRM.
Corollary to this, other two HR core systems the Recruitment, Selection, and Placement (RSP) and Performance Management (PM) was already recognized in which the university have its PRIME-HRM Level II - Accreditation per CSC Resolution No. 22000605 promulgated on December 6, 2022.
The endeavor of the university is in line with CSC Memorandum Circular No. 3, s. 2012 on PRIME-HRM aims to advance the competencies of government offices through the sharing of best practices.
The assessors composed with the Chief Human Resource Specialist Mary Grace Navarra and Supervising Human Resource Specialist Marveen Guiritan of the CSC- Caraga Regional Office.
The university officials headed by Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., university president, and other key officials, members of the different committees and support staff were present during the said onsite assessment.

CHED COMM LIBRE GRACES SNSU’S KICK-START ORIENTATION FOR NEW STUDENTS, TRANFEREES AND REORIENTATION FOR OLD STUDENTS
Hon. Jo Mark M. Libre, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education graces the kick-start orientation for new students, transferees, returnees and reorientation for old students through his message via zoom with emphasis on CMO 9 Series 2013 held at SNSU Gymnasium last August 15, 2023.
CMO 9 Series 2013 otherwise known as “Enhanced Policies and Guidelines on Students Affairs and Services”, as mentioned by Comm. Libre outlines the policies and guidelines that higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines should follow in providing comprehensive and effective student affairs and services programs.
These programs are aimed at promoting holistic student development, well-being, and a conducive learning environment.
The orientation was also graced with the welcome message of our dynamic University President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa. Dr. Rowena A. Plando, the Vice President for Administration, also delivered her closing remarks for this orientation.
In attendance to this orientation is our dynamic University President - Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa Jr., Vice-President for Administration - Dr. Rowena A. Plando, Campus Director-Dr. Ronita E. SNSU BESTOWED GAWAD KALASAG SPECIAL AWARDS
Through the leadership of our esteemed University President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., Surigao Del Norte State University participated the Regional Gawad Kalasag Special Awards in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance for Calendar Year 2023 held at Las Nieves Hall, Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City last Augsust 14, 2023.
Represented by the University’s Vice – President for Administration, Dr. Rowena A. Plando and the University’s Focal Person for DRRM, Dr. Romel C. Dela Cruz, the University received a special award for its participation during the evaluation of Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The University passed the evaluation and showed that it adheres to the standards and functionality set by RDRRMC in the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2010.
Dr. Rommel Dela Cruz received also a Special Award under individual category on the same day.

SNSU MOA AND MOU SIGNING CEREMONY WITH DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM AND REDLINK BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS, INC
Surigao del Norte State University headed by our visionary and innovative University President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa Jr. forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Tourism represented by the Regional Director of Caraga Region, Dir. Ivonnie B. Dumadag and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Redlink Broadband Wireless Access, Inc. represented by its Managing Director, Engr. Dindo Joel C. Dagaas. These Memorandums were signed on July 31, 2023, 9:30 AM at the Board Room of SNSU, Surigao City.
The MOU signing between SNSU and Redlink Broadband Wireless Access, Inc. is initiated for professional growth, research, and extension projects of the university. It also aims to establish a well-developed Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, and Technology courses. Through this partnership, the officials, faculty, staff, and students of the university will experience the world of automation and digitalization as stated by Engr. Dindo Joel C. Dagaas. In behalf of Redlink, Engr. Dagaas also conform their commitment to share their expertise and product solutions to the university.
Meanwhile, pursuant to Republic Act 9593, the partnership between SNSU Department of Tourism is set to develop a service excellence anchored on Filipino culture and instill the "Filipino Brand of Service Excellence" (FBSE) among Filipino Tourism and Hospitality students which aims to raise the quality service standard of future tourism workforce and service sectors of the university. This MOA signing is the first partnership of the DOT with the academe in the entire Caraga Region as stated by Dir. Ivonnie B. Dumadag.
The said MOA and MOU signing Ceremony were signed by the principal signatories with the presence of the officials of the University.
In conclusion, Surigao Del Norte State University, as a leading higher education institution in the Caraga Region, in partnership with DOT and Redlink, is committed to provide service excellence for the service sectors and future workforce and a university that is anchored to the modern world and advancement of technology which are all for Nation's Greater Heights.
