HAPPY 16TH AND 15TH ANNIVERSARIES TO THE FIRST EIGHT FILIPINO MOUNT EVEREST SUMMITEERS!
Did you know that the dates May 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th do have relevance to Philippine mountaineers? Check this out!
Here is a list of Filipinos who have scaled and reached the summit of Mount Everest, at 8848 MASL the highest mountain in the world.
1. Dale Sto. Tomas Abenojar โ May 15, 2006 (North Col, Tibet)
2. Heracleo โLeoโ Oracion โ May 17, 2006 (South Col, Nepal)
3. Erwin โPastorโ Emata โ May 18, 2006 (South Col, Nepal)
4. Romeo โRomiโ Garduce โ May 19, 2006 (South Col, Nepal)
5. Janet Belarmino โ May 16, 2007 (North-South)
6. Carina Dayondong โ May 16,2007 (North-South)
7. Noelle Wenceslao โ May 16, 2007 (North-South)
8. Regidor โRegieโ Pablo โ May 17, 2007 (North Col, Tibet)
Dale Sto. Tomas Abenojar (born April 27, 1963) is a Filipino mountaineer and an adventure sportsman and a mountain guide by profession. He is the founder of an evangelical Christian ministry called Gospel Expedition Ministries. He graduated from Living Waters' U.S.A. School of Biblical Evangelism in 1995 and is now a practicing missionary evangelist. In 2006, he was recognized as "the first Filipino" to reach the summit of Mount Everest by veteran Himalayan expedition chronicler Elizabeth Hawley. According to Hawley Dale reached the summit on May 15, 2006. Abenojar was certified by the China Tibet Mountaineering Association (CTMA) on May 20, 2006, to have summited Everest via the North Col on May 15, 2006, at 10:45 a.m. Beijing time. Dale Abenojar is the 2,614th Everest summiteer.
In contrast, Heracles โLeoโ Oracion is the 2,740th Everest summiteer, who had reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 17, 2006, 2 days after Abenojar.. Both Abenojar and Oracion is in the full list of successful ascents of Mount Everest from 1953 to 13 February 2009 in pdf file submitted by German Himalayan Archivist and former adventurestats.com compiler Eberhard Jurgalski of 8000ers.com. The Himalayan DataBase published by American Alpine Club had included Dale in the list of Everest North summiteers for Spring 2006 on May 15.
On May 18, 2006, Erwin Emata left Camp 4 of Everest and arrived at the summit in 7 hours and 49 minutes with the aid of oxygen. Based on The Himalayan Database published by the American Alpine Club, Emata thereby became the third Filipino to reach the peak of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world.
RomeoโRomiโ Garduce reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 19, 2006. Due to Garduce's feat, he was awarded an Order of Lakandula - Special Class of Champion for Life by then Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as well as one of The Outstanding Young Man (TOYM) of 2006 for his feats and service to community work. Garduce is the first, and to-date the only Filipino, who has climbed all Seven Summits, or the highest mountains in all continents following both Bass and Messner Seven Summits list.
Almost a year later, on May 16, 2007, when the first three Filipinas - Janet Belarmino, Noelle Wenceslao and Carina Dayondon, became the first team of women in the world who summited the worldโs highest mountain, traversing Mount Everest- climbing from Chinese ABC camp to the summit and back down to Nepal- a record still unbroken.
Then came Regidor โRegieโ Pablo, reaching the summit of Mount Everest on May 17, 2007, the day after the first 3 Filipina Everest summiteers.

Yes, even ducks! Human food is not healthy for wildlife, and when we feed them we start the process of food habituation. This alters their behaviors, teaches wildlife to think of humans as a food source, and can harm both animals and people. Watch animals from a distance and let our wildlife stay wild.

JUST IN:
Sta. Cruz Tourism Officer Julius R. Paner confirmed to Edge Davao that Mt. Apo Natural Park will be closed from trekkers/climbers starting June to August this year. This is based on PAMB (Protected Area Management Board) Resolution No. 06 of the Mt. Apo Protected Area that mandated for the closure of the trails in Regions 11 and 12 from June to August, to allow its flora and fauna to spawn in an undisturbed space and time.
Salute
On May 16, 2007, a group of indomitable Filipinas, summitted the highest mountain peak in the world and proved that nothing was impossible.
"We not only summitted Mt. Everest, but we established a world record! We were the first and only women team in the history of Mt. Everest climbing, to do it via traverse climbing from the north. We took the less preferred, less travelled, equally challenging route from China, (Northside). We reached the summit, and descended via Nepal, (Southside)."
A world record that is still undefeated until today.
A salute to all the women in celebration of and this March! Kaya ng Pinay! ๐ต๐ญ
