The Philippine National Indigenous People’s Month is being observed every October of each year by virtue of Republic Act (RA) No. 10689. In celebration of the 2022 National Indigenous Peoples Month with its theme, “Pagtaguyod ng Pamayanang Kultural para sa Isang Matatag na Pilipinas”, the Student Affairs and Services – International, Differently Abled, Indigenous, Marginalized Student Services (SAS – IDIMSS) facilitated a program intended to all Tarlac State University Indigenous Students.
With the help and support from the Institutional Student Programs and Services Unit (ISPS Unit) and Student Affairs and Services Office (SAS), a whole day online program was held last October 28, 2022, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in recognition of the said observance with the goal of highlighting the important roles of the Indigenous Groups in our natural resources, and TSU’s role in supporting, protecting, and appreciating its Indigenous Students.
Also aligned with CHED Memorandum Order No. 9 Section 32.2 that declares the need of an institution to have provision/programs for marginalized students on life skills training, the program consisted of activities that includes Students’ Socialization, Slogan Making Contest, Tik Tok Contest, and Photography Contest, all intended for the personality growth of the Indigenous Students. On the other hand, a Personality Development Program entitled “Finding Self Confidence: A Key to your Career Development” was held. Said webinar was facilitated by Ms. Igielene T. Torato and Ms. Danica Shaine Rirao of the TSU Guidance and Counseling Office.
The IDIMSS Office has recorded 105 attendees during the program. Additionally, the office has also hosted a meeting for all SAS unit and section heads to gather and discuss the provision of possible specialized services for the marginalized students especially the ones from the indigenous students’ sector.
