In collaboration with UP Pre-Medical Society, SIGLA Health and Performance will be taking part in SULYAP with the goal to provide 250 instructional health kits for the benefit of the UP community. With the summer heat coming into our senses, you may probably be experiencing more sweat dripping on your skin during/after workouts. This is because our body is trying to maintain body heat balance, a cooling process we call sweating. During exercise, heat is produced from our muscles creating an increase in body temperature that is above normal resting temperature. The brain senses this change thereby, permitting the dilation of skin blood vessels and activation of sweat glands to allow heat to dissipate from the body in the form of water molecules. Some of the factors that affect a person's sweat production rate are as follows:
π§ Type of physical activity
π§ Ambient temperature
π§ Fitness level
π§ Degree of acclimatization
π§ Hydration level
The amount of sweat we produce during exercise is not indicative of its effectiveness. We may lose weight directly after exercise as a product of fluid loss from sweating. When too much water is lost in the body and is not readily replenished, dehydration occurs which leads to reduced performance due to inefficient thermoregulatory processes of the body. Thus, make sure to have enough water or electrolyte drink prepared to be consumed before, during and after exercise especially when exercising under intense heat for prolonged periods of time.
(Note: Beware not to take in fluids excessively as this can be counterproductive.)

Ending the week with an outpour of gratitude to everyone who has supported our initiative to extend help to the victims of Typhoon Ulysses. For the past weeks, we have garnered a total of P8,100 all of which were donated to our beneficiaries. This has provided 16 RELIEF PACKAGES and 135 FOOD PACKS.

To give you an overview of what our programs look like, here are the descriptions for each:
β’ Plyometric - Training regimen geared towards speed, and power development. It deals with jumping and landing mechanics, and improving explosiveness of movement designed for people who are recreational fitness enthusiast and up.
β’ General Fitness - Involves full-body workouts that you may follow whether you want to workout 3 or 5 times a week. The program encapsulates the basic movement patterns (upper body push/pull, lower body push/pull, core, gait). It is strength training in nature touching on goals for muscle endurance, hypertrophy, and strength.
