What kind of eggs are you buying?

Did you know 95% of the eggs come from chickens raised their entire lives in battery cages, which is a cage about the size of a laptop computer 🙈

But with current labels, no one really knows WHAT they’re buying because big corporations use tricky words to make you spend more when you’re not getting better quality!

So here are a a few tips-

Remember that color doesn’t matter- white/brown/green, color makes no difference in the kind of egg you’re getting!

Terms to know:

“ALL NATURAL”

All-natural on the label is no healthier than normal eggs and is a tricky word used to make you pay more.

“VEGETARIAN-FED”

Don’t be deceived by “vegetarian fed” - chickens are omnivores so this just means they’re force fed an unnatural diet.

“CAGE-FREE”

Another thing on the label to make you pay more without any added benefit.

Instead of cages, these chickens are packed by the
thousands in multi-level aviaries, and they still never
see the outdoors!

“FREE-RANGE”

All this means is that the USDA mandates these chickens have "access to the outdoors", but many free-range birds never go outside!

“ORGANIC”
Even if you’re buying “organic”, there won’t be much of a difference in quality here, either!

All it means is that these hens are fed an organic diet without pesticides or fertilizers, but many still don't see the light of day.

“PASTURE-RAISED”
THIS IS WHAT TO LOOK FOR!

- these hens get plenty of time to play outside
- they are happy and healthy, which is better for you!!

When comparing to conventional eggs, it’s not just the difference in humans vs inhumane, (which is obvious!)

Pasture-raised eggs also have

🍳two-thirds more vitamin A
🍳twice as many omega-3 fatty acids
🍳three times as much vitamin E
🍳seven times as much beta carotene

So if you cannot get pasture-raised, you might as well buy the cheapest eggs they have because all the labels above are only used to charge you more, with only a negligible difference in quality!

Best advice: find a local farmer!!
