Disconnect to Online World; Reconnect to Real World
To share our knowledge, experiences and awareness about internet addiction.
Connecting is a means of communication. It is an important part of the society that we use for our daily lives. Without communication, the Earth is dead.
According to research, social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems. Socializing is another important factor that helps us to exercise our communication skills, improves our speaking and listening comprehension and emboldens us to grow as an individual.
One of the reasons that hinder our practical way of socialization is the Internet Addiction. Our growing dependence on the Internet has changed the way we communicate with others. Instead of talking to people or spending time with them, we often resort to less personal forms of communication like texting or emailing, on the reason that we thought that it's the easiest way to approach someone. There’s nothing wrong with using these methods of communication, but they lack voice inflection and emotion, which let people think that what we are trying to portray or share is less serious.
It is saddening that you only interact virtually because you haven't got the opportunity or confidence to meet them personally and talk to them like what we used to do on our early days.
We are living on an era where capturing moments using our phones is more important than actually living these moments with whoever is beside us. Are you going to be one of those “addicted users” or are you going to stand against Communication Breakdown being brought by Internet Addiction?
Internet is indeed significant for each and everyone. We uses different online platforms, tools, and websites for some purposes that help us in management and progression of our businesses, investments, advocacy campaigns, and even in our education. This has become part of our lives and now became a daily routine for others.
Otherwise, for most of the situations if there is a north pole, there is always a south pole.
Internet Addiction grows as a substantial social issue that I can label as, “an official mental disorder”. Too much time spent online may cause different problems for each individual who gets attached to internet more on average usage. It may affect our physical, emotional and most especially our mental health. In addition, this kind of addiction might become as one of the reasons in school failures and less socialization skills.
However, if you are struggling with the problem, you can overcome it by taking steps to limit your Internet usage, filling your time with alternative activities, and seeking support. Use the availability of Internet, responsibly.
Your cellphone has already replaced camera, your calendar and alarm clock. Don't let it replace your interests. Don't let it replace your family. Think of yourself before social media and the used of Internet boomed.
