In addition, he finished his studies with excellence as he graduated in University of Santo Tomas (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) and took up a master's degree (MA in Education Major in Guidance and Counseling) in Ateneo de Manila University.

Why your leadership voice matters?
The way teams perceive leadership has an enormous impact on employee retention, job performance and overall trust. According to a Gallup poll, engaged teams show less turnover, higher productivity and profitability.

Despite its importance, leadership is a huge challenge for organizations — 13% of organizations say they do an excellent job at developing leaders. Poor leadership hurts productivity and morale. A strong leadership voice increases your influence and enables you to communicate more effectively with others.

On that note, your voice is a powerful leadership tool that influences people’s perception, drives communication and helps you articulate your vision. Your voice punctuates your leadership style and directly affects your team’s faith in you.

TOLITS 101: MIND CHECK

Leadership pioneer Peter Drucker said, “You cannot manage other people unless you manage yourself first.” Much leadership education starts with skills like strategy, vision and finance. But, from Drucker’s point of view, this approach starts at the end and misses the beginning. It’s like building a house by starting with the roof.

With that being said, Hougaard & Carter (2018) emphasized that leadership starts with ourselves. More specifically, it starts with our mind. By understanding how our mind works, we can lead ourselves effectively. By understanding and leading ourselves effectively, we can understand others and be able to lead them more effectively. And by understanding and leading others more effectively, we can understand and lead our organization more effectively.

By “more effectively,” we mean in a way that’s going to tap into your own and your people’s intrinsic motivations and sense of purpose. If you’re able to do that – and we have seen that with practice and persistence, anyone can – you’ll have a more engaged and productive workforce. Perhaps more importantly, you’ll be part of creating more happiness, stronger human connectedness, and better social cohesion within and beyond your organization.
