Despite the present stereotypes and social constructs around powerful women, our history shows that women ARE leaders💪🏼

In early Philippine history🇵🇭, Babaylans were female warriors and leaders who were highly respected in society because of the work they have done for the community🎆

From this alone, we can see the capabilities of women in power🌟 Thus, lets remember that the best man for the job is indeed a woman🎀💗

👻Sapphic representation refers to the representation of women’s attraction towards other women🚺

Following the loss of morality codes in Hollywood🎥, people were given greater freedom to make films about q***r women🌈🕺

The Fear Street trilogy was able to show 🔸sapphic representation🔸as it features Sam and Deena’s sapphic relationship as the core part of its plot❤️‍🔥

As the movie industry moves towards 👥fostering diversity and inclusion🫂, sapphic representation should be given the same level of importance as film relationships that mainly focuses on heteros*xual relationships👫

1 in 10 Filipino women, ages 15 to 19, are either pregnant or have given birth which is an alarming rate for such young ages

S*x education should be prioritized in schools and homes in order to teach the youth about safety, protection, s*xual health, and proper care

Maligayang Buwan ng Wika from Duenna Philippines! ❤️💙💛🤍

There are different ways characters are portrayed in movies, books and other forms of media🎞💡

🪐The Male Gaze Theory is the tendency for films to satisfy the interests of male individuals by introducing “trophy-like” female characters

Men written by women has been a trending topic in many media platforms, admiring the characters of certain men in films and writing by women💫 These characters are not perfect but they allow themselves to be vulnerable and treat the women in the film as equal parts rather than inferior unlike macho-esque men

For our next featured guest, we have Kitty Jardenil. She is a graphic designer focused on illustrations and lettering. 🎨

Kitty opened the video by talking about creative frustrations. Although she is a creator, she is not exempted from feeling that her work is not enough. However, she assures that it is normal to feel that way not only as an artist but in general.
With that, she recently discovered a concept called the Taste Gap by Ira Glass which helps reason out those creative frustrations. The Taste Gap explains how creators develop good taste over time, especially as beginners, which is why they experience creative frustrations. ✏️

For creative individuals, they strive to fill the gap between their taste and capabilities in order to create great work. 🖼

Stereotypes in the Philippine media are commonly seen in building personas for stardom. In most cases, female actresses that are seen as “hot” based on the industries’ views are portrayed as liberated girls and are usually casted as antagonists. The persona they are labeled as becomes their main brand; creating a fixed image of how fans view them. Thus, it is uncommon in ‘showbiz’ for an actress to be portraying different types of roles🎬

📍Many stereotypes shown in the media have also influenced the views of people in real life. The “Madonna-Wh*re-Dichotomy” is known as a term as to how men see women with regards to the stereotypes set in society👥

Often times, men have shown more attraction but less respect to women that dress in a more promiscuous manner. It has come to a point wherein even makeup suggests a certain image of a woman💄

Now, why question a woman’s capacity for a strong autonomous self when we can listen to her instead? It’s important that women are given the platform to express and dress how they want without being stigmatized.

“Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan.” 🤲🏻📮

The slogan of the first community pantry which was located in the Maginhawa Community of Quezon City, and was started by Ana Patricia Non🥦🍅🌽

Community pantries have become a well-known initiative wherein people come together to gather resources and supplies to help those needing assistance due to their lost income caused by the pandemic 🤝👥

🗣💬 Many public figures such as Vice President, Leni Robredo have showed their support for this however, it was not long until the NTF-ELCAC claimed that this initiative was linked to communist agenda.

Through community pantries, it is evident that the power rests within the people. Providing security for our fellow Filipinos can be made possible through collective action: we each have the responsibility to advocate and act for meaningful change in our own communities🔆

Earth day initiates and sustains conversations that push us to move forward🌳

Unfortunately with the on-going pandemic, there has been an increase in demand in delivery services which entail the use of single-use plastic packaging 📦

The single-use waste that pile up creates a domino effect; emitting more carbon dioxide which contributes to the greenhouse gases and climate change.

🌍HELP RESTORE OUR EARTH🌎
It is important to be environmentally conscious 🤍
- minimize the packaging of your orders
- “Skip the Bag”
- pass on cutlery items
- utilize reusable goods

Do your part in initiating a change for a zero waste future, everyday ♻️

April is child abuse prevention month! Thus, Duenna sees it is important to recognize the weight of people's words🗣

The COVID-19 pandemic has truly changed the lives of citizens, families, and children. This prolonged isolation has also made it easier for offenders to hurt their wives and children without fear of being prosecuted ⚠️ This is due to the fact that the movements and reporting capacities of victims of violence are much more closely monitored and restricted

This marks the month-long commemoration of 🚸National Child Abuse Prevention Month🚸, which emphasizes the importance of communities working together to prevent all forms of child abuse, especially verbal abuse, which has become the norm in many households and is perpetuated by current society🤍

Duenna PH calls on all of us to talk responsibly and to defend and uplift victims at all times. 💪🏻

Happy International Women’s Day from Duenna PH!💗💪🏼

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity🧚🏻‍♀️

The global theme issued by the United Nations is “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” to celebrate the skills and knowledge women leaders have demonstrated in the COVID-19 response⛑🌸

The presence of women in parliament aid creates stronger attention towards women’s issues. This is a matter especially prevalent in the Philippines. With the different lawmakers, including women, we, as citizens, must join them by supporting future women leaders and their advocacies this upcoming election🗳

The need for female representation in the government concern gender quality. Women need to be given the same level of encouragement as men. With this, we must empower and uplift women leaders in the struggle to achieve democracy and equality!👩‍💼🧑‍💼👨‍💼

The term ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ is a female character whose purpose is to aide the male protagonist transformation in the story 🗣

📖 This is a type of female character often depicted as quirky and whimsical with a dream-like personality ☁️🌈 who saves the male protagonist from himself. She usually aides in his transformation without ever showing any real agency of her own. The existence of MPDGs are seen in films like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “500 Days of Summer” as it leaves us with underdeveloped female characters, and an impression that their characters are only there to help men change👥🎞

MPDG is a call out on cultural s*xism and has been ingrained in films for decades which is now popularized by mass media.
Through this, it romanticized the idea of what a “perfect woman” is.

Pause! If you're reading this, Duenna PH is here as a reminder to take your time to breathe and give yourself a pat on the back for coming this far. You've done well!

The pandemic has taken a toll on the majority of the human race. Every day, women find it both a blessing and a challenge to be able to get up from bed and be productive.

Women have their fair share of good and bad days—all of which affect their mental and physical health. So how must women take care of themselves at trying times like this?

It is important to engage yourself in exercise for your physical state and fitness. Do not pressure yourself too much though, work at your own pace, and know your body. Along with this, allow yourself to spend alone time assessing your feelings and self-reflecting. This is the perfect time to appreciate yourself and what you have or maybe align some of your hobbies during this period as well. Go write in your journal, cook yourself a meal, bake that new recipe, binge-watch your favorite series—anything that will give you satisfaction and happiness.

It is also important to take note of following a specific routine to organize your tasks and be more productive each day. Keep in mind that small progress is still progress. Avoid overworking and always prioritize sleep. Lastly, don't forget to treat yourself for a job well done daily. Surviving each day is no easy feat, you must be proud of yourself for fighting up until now.

Self-care isn't selfish—but instead a necessity. Always remember that even the strongest superheroes need to recharge sometimes before they save the world.
