As a yoga practitioner for over 5 years and having utilized the benefits of the practice, I cannot help but hope that many could also experience the same.

Yoga can be practiced anywhere, even inside a McDonald’s party area. 😊 Seriously, may yoga be practiced by many as it only takes a small space for it in our lives but will have a great effect in our overall well-being.

Not being able to execute some yoga poses is a perfect reminder that we all need to be gentle with ourselves. Even outside the mat, not being able to accomplish everything in one go is okay.

Teaching yoga was never part of the plan. I was a happy student then, attending classes and workshops by different yoga teachers. But as I experienced the benefits of yoga, I cannot help but hope that yoga may be experienced by everyone. So, here’s me teaching yoga to teenaged school girls of Sta. Rosa, Olanggo hoping that if there’s any learning retained from the session it would be to keep their breathing deep and their minds in the present moment.

The past week has been a blur of doctor's appointments with long wait times. To keep myself occupied during such waits, I always look back to, or look forward to yoga practice.

The upper photo was taken during last Sunday's session, the other from earlier today. It's good to be back, even if only for a while.

Chaturanga Dandasana or Four-Limbed Staff Pose is one of the core asanas or poses in yoga. It can help with improvement of one’s body strength, posture, and stability.

According to a study done on this asana, when practiced properly, it can prevent future back pains especially for young girls.

Last night’s (Friyay!) online yoga sesh with the working girls of Davao. Yoga is itself a stress reliever, you know what else is? Girl talk before and after the session, and of course, only with women who uplift and support fellow women.

In learning and teaching yoga, we tiptoe the line to and from detailed instructions for beginners and the giving of cues for intermediate practitioners. A good practice ends with the giving of feedback between student and teacher so that everyone can improve.

Tadasana or mountain pose is the foundational pose for all standing asanas. It may look like your normal standing position but there’s a lot of engagement of the different muscles and body parts.

This pose can improve one’s posture, strengthen the legs, and enhance awareness of one’s body. Practicing this pose can also boost one’s self-esteem and improve balance.

In tadasana, the yoga practitioner is encouraged to meditate and do mindful breathing.

Part of my undergraduate and graduate training emphasizes the use of peer reviewed research to get legitimate information. This information can then be used to make better decisions.

According to at least 27 research articles, yoga is a good choice for improving both physical and mental health.

My first assisted headstand almost two months into the start of my yoga practice was awkward and not properly executed compared to my headstand now. Nonetheless, I kept showing up in my mat.

There are days when I feel working on my headstand practice and there are days when I also fail. But I keep on going because more than the looking good in a perfect headstand, I am after its benefits.
