📍📍NUTRITION TIPS FOR ONLINE LEARNERS📍📍📚

Hey, online learners! Do you miss the food in your school canteen? Are you craving for the food that Ate or Kuya is selling near your school? While we all stay at home, it is good for us to start consuming nutritious food and leave the habit of eating unhealthy foods behind.

Why is good nutrition important in online learning?
1. Better school performance: improved cognition, concentration, and energy level
2. Healthier body to help fight off sicknesses
3. Lower rates of absenteeism

Tips for better nutrition:
1. Eat a variety of foods every day. The three food groups should always be present when eating: Go, Grow, and Glow Foods.
• Go Foods: energy-giving foods such as rice, bread, pasta, and root crops. These will help you get energized for your online classes!
• Grow Foods: protein-rich foods like lean meat, fish, chicken, eggs, and legumes. This group is important to support your growth and for repair of body tissues.
• Glow Foods: these are rich sources of vitamins and minerals, which include fruits and vegetables, for different processes in your body.

2. Avoid eating more than what is required for the day. Overeating may lead to unhealthy weight gain.

3. Limit consumption of foods that are too salty, too sweet, or too fatty. This will help you avoid certain diseases later in life.

4. Breakfast is a must! Breakfast gives you that boost you need to start the day.

5. Choose healthier snacks for your recess! You may eat sandwich, breads, kakanin, biscuits, etc. Avoid consuming processed foods and “junk” foods for your miryenda.

6. Try urban gardening! Your family may do vegetable gardening and experience the joy of eating your own produce!

7. Be physically active! Do home exercises or help in household chores.

Keep in mind: HEALTHY STUDENTS ARE BETTER LEARNERS.

Here are Pinggang Pinoy for Kids and for Teens to guide you in healthy eating.

It’s time for Project SIKAP’s tips regarding Social Distancing! 📣

What is Social Distancing?

According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention, social distancing means that you should avoid close contact with healthy people. If you are sick, you can help stop the spread of disease by social distancing. If you are healthy, you can help prevent yourself from getting sick. Social distancing is recommended if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.

How far should I be from other people?

Stay about 3-6 feet, about two arm lengths, away from other people. Avoid hugging and handshakes during this time. Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering when around other people.

REMEMBER: Wearing a cloth face covering is not a substitute for social distancing.

If you are symptom free, here are some practical advices on how to go about your day:

What are the places/events I should avoid?

1. Public Spaces
2. Concerts
3. Athletic Events
4. Crowded Retail Stores
5. Mass Transit Systems

What are the places/events I should be cautious about?

1. Grocery Stores
2. Restaurants and Bars
3. Religious Services
4. Long-term Care Homes
5. Traveling

What are the things safe to do?

1. Walk or hike
2. Clean the House and Yard
3. Go for a drive
4. Video Chat
5. Watching shows, movies and reading

We hope you keep all of these practices in mind to help prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19. Stay healthy and safe!

‼️Time for Project SIKAP tips for online learners/ work from home🕶📚‼️

Be mindful of your own sitting posture while working/studying from home.

-Try to take breaks in between by having a brief walk or stretch every 30 minutes to relieve muscle tension and prevent eye strain.
- Put the monitor/gadget 20 inches away and at an eye level to prevent hunch over
-Straighten your back with shoulders relaxed at your sides and make sure that your back is fully supported
-Put your hips as far back of the chair as possible
-Make sure your feet touch the floor/ use a footrest

We are all in this together. :)

Photos from Project SIKAP's post 27/09/2020

As the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rise, many families have been severely affected by the pandemic. Majority of them are those who lost their jobs due to the closure of many businesses, dismissal of contractual jobs, and no work-no pay jobs (jeepney drivers, barbers, and salon staff, etc.). It is disheartening to know that some of our fellow Filipinos have no choice but to stop their children from going to school as they do not have enough money to buy gadgets for them to continue their studies through online learning. They would rather use their money for the basic needs of the family (food, rent, water, electricity). The opening of classes is fast approaching, and students are left with no choice but to hope that they will be able to cope and not miss out on their education.

Hence, we are driven by this current situation to create this project, entitled "S.I.K.A.P." which is a Tagalog word that means "effort" or "diligence". Project "S.I.K.A.P." also stands for Support Initiative for Knowledge Amidst the Pandemic which encompasses the ultimate vision of the project itself. We appeal for help from our families, friends, and the community to raise funds through donations to purchase tablets to be distributed to public junior and senior high school students in Metro Manila who are in need of a gadget for use in blended learning.
