COALITION FOR CHANGE

That is the English translation for 'Hugpong Ng Pagbabago' or HNP - the regional political party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. 👸

The HNP in reality is a political alliance formed by the lady city mayor on February 23, 2018. The party was established in support of President Rodrigo Duterte's government.

In July 2018, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) granted the accreditation of HNP as a regional political party. Seven major political parties forged an alliance with the HNP party, to wit : PDP–Laban, PMP, PRP, NP, NPC, NUP and the Lakas–CMD.

The HNP campaigned for 13 candidates for senator from the above parties which were also endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2019 Senate election.

The result - nine candidates under the HNP nearly got a clean sweep of the 12 senatorial seats at stake.

The first question is - in case she finally decides to run for president next year, can Sara Duterte run under HNP even if it is still a regional party?

The answer is YES, on one very important condition. The HNP has to change its status from regional to a national party. And under Comelec Resolution 10695, the last day of currently registered political parties or coalition of political parties to submit a Sworn Information Update Statement (SIUS) is on August 15, 2021.

However, there is another option. Sara Duterte may opt to join the PDP-Laban, the national party of which President Duterte is the National Chairman.

Which leads us to the final question - will she join PDP-Laban and join forces with her father who might run as Vice President of the land?
