Chinese national, huli sa kidnapping

Isang Chinese national na umano'y sangkot sa pagdukot sa kanyang kababayan ang nadakip sa tulong ng isang mobile translation app nitong gabi ng Lunes, July 22.

Batay sa ulat ng Calamba City Police Station, inaresto ang suspek na kinilala lamang sa alyas "Hu" matapos magpatulong ang kanyang naging biktima sa isang guard ng exclusive subdivision sa Barangay Punta sa nasabing bayan.

Ayon sa guard na kinilalang si Jovan Castillo, isang lalaking Chinese ang lumapit sa kanya sa loob ng subdivision bandang alas-siyete ng gabi ng Lunes at nagtangkang makipag-usap sa kanya.

Nang una ay hindi umano maintindihan ni Castillo ang sinasabi ng lalaki kaya't gumamit siya ng Google Translator mobile app para maunawaan siya.

Doon na lumabas na isa palang biktima ng pagdukot ang Chinese national, kung saan sapilitan siyang dinala ni "Hu" sa isang bahay na nirentahan nito sa loob ng subdivision.

Tumawag agad sa mga pulis si Castillo na siya namang nagkasa ng isang operasyon upang madakip ang suspek.

Nakakulong na si "Hu" sa Calamba City Police Station habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon sa nasabing krimen.

As of 9:26 p.m. Monday, July 22, the city has recorded a total of 36 houses damaged by strong winds and rough waves brought by Typhoon .

According to the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, 16 houses have been recorded as totally damaged while 17 are partially damaged, affecting 242 individuals.

Treñas: PBBM did 'very well' in 3rd SONA

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas commended President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. for delivering a "comprehensive" State of the Nation Address (SONA) this Monday, July 22.

In a statement, Treñas lauded Marcos for his "effective leadership" that has led to economic development not only in Panay Island but also around the country.

"His administration is clearly on the right path, particularly in prioritizing crucial projects and programs in sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and agrarian reform. These initiatives, aimed at benefiting our marginalized sectors, are essential for the nation's progress and development," the city executive stressed.

Treñas also thanked the Marcos administration for its continuous support for major infrastructure projects in Iloilo.

This includes the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project (JRMP) II in Calinog town which was personally inaugurated by the President last July 16, as well as the 230-kilovolt (kV) Cebu-Negros-Panay backbone project.

Treñas lauded Marcos' strong stance strong stance to uphold the Philippines' sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea and against illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).

"These actions reflect his dedication to safeguarding our national interests and protecting our citizens," he said.

"As the city mayor, I assure the continued support of the Iloilo City Government towards President Marcos Jr.'s leadership. Our vision for the city and its people aligns with his, and we are dedicated to working together for the overall welfare and advancement of the country," the city mayor added.
