So the secular world has designated June as so called “Pride Month.”

What does it really mean to celebrate “Pride?"

From a truly biblical perspective it is sadly a celebration of sin.

Now of course, because I stated that this is a celebration of sin, I will be called unloving and accused of hate speech.

Even a number of Christians, Christian leaders, Churches, and Christian Institutions celebrate “Pride Month.” They say they are showing love and celebrating diversity.

But is it unloving to call “Pride Month” a celebration of sin?

When the first man Adam disobeyed God, this brought sin into the world. How did God respond? God judged man’s rebellion against a Holy God by judging man’s sin with death.

“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

Man would now die spiritually dead, being separated from God, breaking the perfect relationship that existed before sin. Man would also die physically.

“By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19).

Our bodies die, but the real us, our souls, would live on eternally separated from God.

However, in judgment, God provided salvation. He promised a Savior (Genesis 3:15) who would provide a way for man to come back to that relationship with God and spend eternity with Him.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)

At the time of Noah, the wickedness of man was so great that God judged that wickedness with a global Flood.

“The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them” (Genesis 6:5–7).

“And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep.” (Genesis 7:19–20)

But in judgment, God also provided a way of salvation for those who would receive it. He told Noah to build an Ark for the saving of his family and the land animal kinds. He instructed Noah to put one door in the Ark. Only those who went through that door into the Ark were saved. The Ark and the one door are a picture of salvation in Jesus Christ. As our promised Savior said:

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture” (John 10:9).

The point is, God doesn’t ignore sin/wickedness. He is a holy God. He judges sin, but He is also a God of love in providing salvation. He is a merciful God.

When God destroyed S***m and Gomorrah because of their wickedness, their s*xual perversion, He provided salvation for those (Lot) who would receive it:

“if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by turning the cities of S***m and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked(for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard);then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority” (2 Peter 2:5–10).

When the Israelites conquered Jericho, God provided salvation for Rahab as she obviously put her faith in the true God. She’s in lineage leading to Jesus and in the Hebrews 11 chapter as an example of great faith.

Now God is our creator and therefore He owns us. He has a right to set the rules and determine what is right and wrong.

He created marriage as one man and one woman. He makes it clear that s*x outside of marriage is sin. He also makes it clear that men lusting after men and women lusting after women is sin:

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: s*xual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, or**es, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19=21).

“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error” (Romans 1:26–27).

The loving merciful way to deal with “Pride Month” as a Christian, is to warn people about sin, the need for repentance, and provide them with the wonderful message of a merciful God who does judge wickedness but provides salvation for those who will receive it. And for those who do trust Christ He promises to provide a way to overcome temptation.

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God” (John 3:17-21).

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him” (John 3:36).

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Now, none of this is hate. It is love. It is mercy. Christians can’t celebrate sin but celebrate those who repent of sin and trust Christ for salvation. And celebrate those who overcome temptation to sin through trust in Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in their hearts.

It is unloving not to warn people about their sin and to teach them about God's love, mercy, forgiveness, and provision of salvation in Christ.

THE MARKS OF A FALSE DISCIPLE

Judas illustrates false discipleship. Note carefully the characteristics of his hypocrisy.

1. HE LOVED TEMPORAL GAIN MORE THAN ETERNAL RICHES.

He wanted glory; he wanted success; he wanted earthly treasures.
Perhaps he was disappointed that Christ did not fulfill all his expectations for the Messiah.
He may have had his heart set on a high position in Christ's earthly kingdom. It is typical of false disciples -
These people reveal that they never had genuine faith to begin with. They follow Christ for a season but eventually sell Him for selfish desire, money, blessings, prestige, or power.

2. HE (JUDAS) WAS MARKED BY DECEIT

False disciples are masters of subtle deception, adept at deluding others.
They pretend to love the Lord, but their KISSES are the kisses of BETRAYAL.

3. JUDAS AND ALL FALSE DISCIPLES ARE IN IT FOR WHAT THEY RECEIVE.

They are satisfied with a salved conscience, peace of mind, a good reputation, or spiritual self-satisfaction.
Some of them profess Christ because it's good for business, or because they think trusting Christ will bring health, wealth, or prosperity.
But they will sell the Savior like Esau sold his birthright for a pot of stew. Like Judas, they love the world and they love darkness.
Their half-hearted faith turns inevitably to hard-hearted unbelief.

They are friendly to Jesus. They look and talk like disciples. They know the name of Jesus. They confess that they are followers of Christ. But they are not committed to Him (Jesus) and are therefore capable of the worst kind of betrayal 😢.

A real disciple, on the other hand, may fail Christ but will never turn against Him. A true Christian might temporarily fear to stand up for the Lord but would never willingly sell Him out.
Inevitably, true disciples will falter, but when they fall into sin, they will seek cleansing (REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS) not (REMORSE).

The mark of the true disciple is not that he never sins, but rather that when he does sin he inevitably returns to the Lord to receive forgiveness and cleansing.
Unlike a false disciple, the true disciple will never turn away completely. He may OCCASIONALLY turn back to his fishing nets but ultimately he is drawn again to the Master. When Christ confronts him, he will return to a life of service for the Savior.

Their faith is neither fragile nor temporary; it is a dynamic and ever-growing commitment to the Savior.

How do you resist being conformed into this evil world system?
There must be a greater love and a greater affection for God and for Jesus Christ that is so powerful that you would never settle for the things of this world.
