“I try to give, artists, artisans the opportunity to explore their crafts, be it with design thinking or material exchange, and really be able to give them a platform to promote, their product and to tell their story.” - Rambie Lim

Exploring the Use of Philippine Silk in Tausug P*syabit Weaving by Rambie Lim proposes to bridge the gap between suppliers, dyers and weavers to possibly bring about the renaissance of traditional Tausug textiles by working with weavers from Padirna Sanaani of Parang, Sulu and Ruhina Muhaimer of Maimbung, Sulu. Through the Rurungan Sa Tubod Foundation, the designer has been researching and experimenting on how to adapt traditional weaving and dying techniques to find solutions.

Exploring the use of Philippine Silk in Tausug Siyabit Weaving

CURIOUS
Benilde Open 2024

Photos from Crafted's post 15/05/2024

Tausug weavers use a lot of colors in their Siyabit weaving. So once we acquired the Silk threads it was sent to Rurungan sa Tubod foundation in Puerto Princesa for processing. Though they normally work with silk, this would be the first time for them to dye 60 denier silk in a wide variety of color. Big shout out to Beth, Jers and Mrs. Lim for working with the silk. MARAMING Salamat!!! 🙏🏻

The silk is soaked, heat dyed, rinse and dried.

We are always CURIOUS about and facinated by Philippine Artistry.

For the Benilde Open, we are exploring the use of Philippine Silk in Tausug Siyabit Weaving.

We are using 60 denier silk from OISCA TC, Bago City, Negros Occidental. It is stronger and more robust, which is needed to maintain the tension requiered for the warp of a tapestry loom.

Come join us in our journey.

Collaborative Craft: A Look Into Rambie Lim's Long-Standing Partnership With Local Weavers 31/08/2023

Traditional arts are exactly what their label implies—that is to say, traditions. Crafts passed down from one generation to another, and practices that serve as reflections of a people’s culture. However, as the country moves forward with technological advancements, rapid urbanization, and other changes brought about by modernization, certain practices face the threat of disappearing. This is especially true for crafts that require plenty of time and effort.

Collaborative Craft: A Look Into Rambie Lim's Long-Standing Partnership With Local Weavers Product developer Rambie Lim shares her experiences working with local weavers to keep Philippine craftsmanship alive.
