As the sun sets on the 7th of July, our Muslim brethren celebrate the beginning of the Hijri year 1446 with reflection and contemplation towards further progress. ☝🏻

Amun Jadid, also known as Maal Hijrah, or Awal Muharram is celebrated during the first day of Muharram, which is the first month in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the year when the Prophet Muhammad and his followers made their historic migration from the city of Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. Although it is not recognised as an Eid or feast within the Muslim community, it is celebrated by congregating in prayer and collectively remembering in optimism.

Let us all take a moment to observe respect and appreciation as we wish our Muslim friends success, self-growth, and peace as this year passes by. ☘️

🔍 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲! 🏳️‍🌈

On 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟲, 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟰, over 30 q***r advocates and the Metropolitan Community Church Philippines organized a historic demonstration in Quezon City. This event, named "𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮," commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, marking a significant milestone in the country's LGBTQI+ advocacy. Almost three decades later, we reflect on the progress and ongoing challenges faced by the Filipino LGBTQI+ community.

In a notable development on 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯, the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality approved a substitute SOGIESC Equality Bill. This bill consolidates several House Bills aiming to protect individuals from human rights violations based on their s*xual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or s*x characteristics. Despite this progress, the bill remains stalled as it awaits further discussion. The long journey of this legislation, which dates back to the 11th Congress, underscores the persistent struggle for LGBTQI+ rights in the Philippines.

The journey toward comprehensive equality and protection under the law is far from over. Continued advocacy, education, and solidarity are essential in overcoming the barriers that remain. The spirit of "𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮" lives on in the hearts of those who strive for a more inclusive and equitable society, and their efforts are a testament to the enduring fight for LGBTQI+ rights in the Philippines.

Let this Pride Month be a reminder that our fight for LGBTQI+ rights is inseparable from the broader fight for social justice and equality. Together, let's create a future where love, understanding, and acceptance reign supreme. "May tapang sa likod ng mga luha, may katatagan sa pananatiling malambot, at may kalakasan sa bawat kahinaan. Ito ako, babae, malambot ngunit hindi mahina, at ang malumanay na pamumuno ang patuloy na sasagisag sa pagtanggap, pag-unawa, dalisay na intensyon at pagmamahal sa’king nasasakusapan...

My story is a testament of how every voice is important, but the understanding of those who’ll hear is also relevant. Therefore, I want you to not just be the voice of the voiceless but also the listening ears for those who go unheard. Ang maging boses at tainga ng masa. Be the voice, even if your voice shakes. Listen, even if you’re the only one listening. Ang bawat isa sa atin ay may puwang sa lipunan upang marinig at mapakinggan kaya’t gamitin mo ito sa tama upang isulong ang pantay na karapatan, punahin ang bawat kakulangan at ipaglaban ang iyong karapatan lalo na sa ating nasasakupan—gaya ng laban upang protektahan ang soberanya sa lupa, sa himpapawid at katubigan. Hangga’t kumikislap ang asul na tubig sa kanluran, hindi natin hahayaang maging p**a ang nasa itaas ng ating pagkakakilanlan. Ang atin ay sa atin lamang, at ang West Philippine Sea ay sa inang bayan. Nawa’y ang misyon ng organisasyong ito upang palawigin ang kamalayan para sa mga kabataan ay magtagumpay ‘pagkat matatag ang paniniwala kong hindi kayang basagin ng panlilinlang ang kabataang mulat sa kaniyang karapatan at realidad ng lipunan. As we mark the second day of Eid Al Adha on June 18, our Muslim community celebrates the blessings and joy shared over these wonderful days. Enjoying this festival with our Muslim brothers and sisters has filled our hearts with appreciation, unity, and giving.

During Eid Al Adha, Muslims all across the world execute the Qurbani rite, which involves slaughtering sheep, goats, and other animals. This gesture represents obedience and appreciation to Allah while also emphasizing the significance of giving with those in need. The meat from these sacrifices is shared with family, friends, and the less fortunate, encouraging a feeling of community and compassion.

May the spirit of Eid continue to inspire and uplift us all in the days to come. Today, on this beautiful occasion, our hearts are filled with peace and joy. Eid Mubarak to everyone! May the blessings of this occasion stay with you throughout the year. 🌙✨

June 17 marks the first day of celebrating Eid al-Adha globally. This holiday will last until the evening of June 20, 2024. Eid al-Adha is a festival of sacrifice where Muslims slaughter sheeps or goats to offer to Allah and the meat is shared between relatives and friends. It is the time of the year that Muslims dedicate to celebrate their devotion to Allah as they remember those of their Prophet Ibrahim's who chose to serve Allah among and despite everything. 🙏🕋

May this celebration be a reminder of what beauty sacrifices bring, and for us to learn unity and generosity. It is also a day to be grateful for the blessings we receive and give to those in need. ❤️💛
