Metamorphic grade
A. Low-grade metamorphism illustrated by the transformation of the common sedimentary rock shale to the more compact metamorphic rock slate.
B. High-grade metamorphic environments obliterate the existing texture and often change the mineralogy of the parent rock.
High-grade metamorphism occurs at temperatures that approach those at which rocks melt.

Unique for you ❤️

The "Liesegang rings" are features caused during diagenesis or even later by a rhythmic precipitation, often controlled by fissures and cracks which act as conduits for the solutions. The rings may be different in the chemical composition by quality and/or show a gradual change in special compounds, e.g., FeOOH (goethite). Liesegang patterns are so visually attractive that they trigger scientists’ curiosity, and incite them to search for analogies in the real natural word.
The beautiful Liesegang phenomenon consists of a stratification of precipitate bands resulting from a scenario of the mass transport of ions in pore solutions of rocks often generated therein mineralization that does not develop uniformly and continuously, but periodically or rhythmically. Important physico-chemical processes such as supersaturation, nucleation, particle growth and temperature effects may be involved in the dynamics of pattern formation.

How much oil is left in the Earth⁉️✍️

Oil is one of the earth's most valuable non-renewable resources, and these types of resources are named so because they are-well, non-renewable. Although there is plenty of organic matter that could potentially become oil over the next few million years, it is likely that humans will one day see the end of black gold as we know it.

So just how much oil do we have left? For decades, oil production has been steadily increasing, and energy experts have been attempting to calculate when we might run out. Those that have been following along will note that, despite the warnings of many would-be Nostradamuses, production is still on the rise and previous dead-end predictions have been pushed back.

Previous predictions that would have had oil reserves completely tapped by now were wrong because both production and proved reserves increased consistently. To clarify, the amount of oil that actually exists on the planet is significantly larger than the amount of oil that we currently think we can drill. Therefore, we may have significantly more than 53 years of oil remaining if drilling technologies can improve to the point that recovering the more difficult to reach oil becomes economically feasible.

A piece of advice to all fresh graduates and those seeking employment into oil and gas by Dr Mustafa Momodu✍️
(Just a reminder)

“If your country has got Oil 🛢industry, then you can research for the oil drilling companies in your country and write them down. One by one search for their website and apply as a roustabout as that is the entry position in drilling if thats where you want as there's production and others. Also follow them on Facebook,LinkedIn to know when they are hiring”.

Stay connected to our page as we bring to you more interesting writes on how to join the oil and gas industry.

What is Petroleum Geology?

Petroleum geology is a specific field of geosciences that addresses the origin, distribution, exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas resources. Petroleum geoscientists include many types of specialties such as petroleum geologists, exploration geophysicists, geochemists, sedimentary geologists, structural geologists, and paleontologists.

Petroleum geology involves the analysis of:
👉 The source rocks that are rich in organic matter – the source of oil and natural gas,
👉 Geological structures and stratigraphic layers that permit accumulations of petroleum to form in the subsurface (traps and seals), and
👉 The characteristics of porous subsurface rock formations that store oil and natural gas (petroleum reservoirs).

Petroleum geology is exciting because one uses many different types of data such as rock cores from wells, well logs that provide information about the rock and fluid properties, and 3D seismic images, all of which are used to develop 2D and 3D maps and models of the subsurface and the distribution of petroleum resources, and to calculate volumes of oil and natural gas that exist in different areas (petroleum reserves estimates).

Petroleum geology students have a variety of interests. Some of which are:

👉Earth and planetary science
👉Physics
👉Chemistry
👉Math
👉Computer science and visualization
👉Working in the field/outdoors
👉Working in the laboratory
👉Problem solving and creativity
👉Qualitative to quantitative analysis
👉Economics

OIL AND GAS SEPARATORS

They are also called Stage Separators, Flash Drum, Flash Chamber, Dry Drum, Vapour - Liquid Separators, Scrubbers and Settlers.

Separators are pressure vessels which separates multiphase well fluids into gaseous and liquid streams (2 phase separators) and in some cases, separates the fluid into a gas, liquid hydrocarbon and a liquid aqueous phase (3 phase separators). They also help to remove materials such as entrained solid impurities from the crude oil produced from the wells.

Oil and gas separators are located at wellheads, natural gasoline plants, compressor suctions and discharges, liquid traps in gas transmission lines, and gas sweetening plants.

There are 4 main functional sections of a Separator. These sections include:
👉 Inlet Diverter Section
👉 Liquid Collection Section
👉 Gravity Settling Section
👉 Mist Extractor Section

There are 2 main types of oil and gas separators with both having disadvantages and advantages. These 2 types are; Horizontal and Vertical Separators.

Other types of oil and gas separators include; Spherical Separators, Centrifugal Separators, Venturi Separators, Filter Separators, Scrubbers and Slug Catchers.

More about separators in our subsequent posts, stay tuned.

Let us know in the comment section 👇 how interested you are in this topic. Don't be selfish with your knowledge, educate your younger ones in the comment section by sharing your ideas.

:- Meander and Braided river.

A meander is a series of regular sinuous arcs in a river's or other watercourse's channel. It occurs when a watercourse erodes the sediments of an outer, concave bank and deposits them on an inner, convex bank, usually a point bar.

A braided river, also known as a braided channel, is made up of a network of river channels divided by small, frequently transitory islands known as braid bars, or aits or eyots in English use.
