Topic| If Gold Rusts, what shall Iron do.| Leadership Crisis. Gold is a precious metal and rusting is not its fundamental characteristic. Here, it symbolizes the Elite classes/ Leadership present in any society. While Iron is an ordinary metal, thus symbolizes the common masses. According to this line from Geoffrey Chaucer - an English Poet - Gold rusting means Leadership Crisis. It is hard for an ordinary individual or nation to survive when giant nations and leaders from Political, Social, Economic & Ideological domains start rusting. The signs of Gold rusting are obvious today as the whole world is in a state of complete chaos. The policy makers are satisfying their vested interests instead of working for the survival of whole humanity. They are amassing national wealth. Promotion of intolerance & fundamental approach by Religious Clergy, Spread of extremism by hardliners, Human Rights Violations by the protectors of law, Rampant corruption in every society, decline of moral values, downfall of the UNO, Increasing proportion of Crime, Butchering of Minorities, Hoarding & stockpiling by the traders - all these signs justify that Gold has already rusted. Hence, the Common man has to play his part to avoid the catastrophic destiny. He must be politically active. Democracy is a culture rather than a process. Democracy is a form of government in which power is vested in the people. It focuses, as a principle, on Equality, Social Justice, Protection of Human Rights, Political and Economic Freedom, Public Participation in decision making, Rule of Law, Strong & Independent Institutions, Educated Citizenry, Equal opportunities for all, Developed sense of responsibility, and Effective accountability.
