The recent decision by the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan to terminate the wheat subsidy has stirred profound discontent among the region's populace. It is crucial to assert that the subsidy is not a benevolent act of charity but, rather, a right protected by international laws due to the region's disputed status. This move is not an acknowledgment of poverty but a recognition of the complexities surrounding Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan and its institutions appear to misconstrue the wheat subsidy as an act of generosity, neglecting the fact that it is an obligation arising from the disputed status. Examining Pakistan's current state reveals a disconcerting pattern of resource exploitation from Gilgit-Baltistan, ranging from direct taxes and river realties to funds derived from international tourism, and even the financial benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

If the federal government can allocate substantial subsidies for mega-projects like metros, the question arises as to why a similar consideration isn't extended to the essential commodity of wheat in Gilgit-Baltistan. The people are urged not to perceive the subsidized wheat as an act of charity but to consume it as an inherent right, given that a significant portion of Pakistan's sustenance relies on the contributions from Gilgit-Baltistan.

The call for fairness extends beyond wheat subsidies. The Gilgit Baltistan Student Council strongly condemns the government's decision, asserting that the time has come for comprehensive discussions not only about wheat but about the region's full constitutional rights. This plea is a reminder that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have sacrificed significantly, and it is now time for equitable treatment. If the state of Pakistan is hesitant to provide wheat subsidies, a transparent assessment of the region's contributions should be conducted, illuminating the true extent of its economic standing.

In this critical juncture, the focus should not solely be on wheat subsidies but on a broader dialogue addressing the complete constitutional rights of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Student Federation ISB/RWP contends that, if such discussions are not initiated, the intelligent populace of Gilgit-Baltistan reserves the right to determine its future course of action. This sentiment underscores the urgency of addressing not just immediate concerns but the overarching issues of justice and autonomy for the region. Moreover, Gilgit Baltistan Students Federation ISB/RWP ensures that the students of GilgitBaltistan will use every platform to raise their legal voices for the protection of their constitutional Rights.

It's been over 24 hours since Saqlain, a student from NED UET Karachi, hailing from Gilgit Baltistan, was abducted from his hostel room inside NED Campus.

The abductors were accompanied by two university employees. Unfortunately, the university's response to this serious situation has been far from reassuring, and Saqlain's safety and whereabouts remain unknown.

جامعہ پنجاب میں زیر تعلیم گلگت بلتستان کے طلباء طالبات پر اسلامی جمعیت طلباء کی جانب سے تشدد کے واقعات کا نوٹس لیا جائے، جی بی سٹوڈنٹس کونسل لاہور (پ ر) جماعت اسلامی کے ذیلی تنظیم اسلامی جمعیت طلباء کی جانب سے جامعہ پنجاب میں زیر تعلیم گلگت بلتستان کے طلباء طالبات پر تشدد کے واقعات میں اضافہ ہوتا جارہا ہے۔ گلگت بلتستان سٹوڈنٹس کونسل کی جانب سے جاری کردہ ایک پریس ریلیز کے مطابق یونیورسٹی انتظامیہ جماعت اسلامی اور اس کی ذیلی تنظیم کے نرغے میں ہے اور اسی اثرورسوخ کو استعمال کرکے اسلامی جمعیت طلباء الٹا گلگت بلتستان کے طلباء کے خلاف ایف۔آئ۔آر درج کروارہی ہے۔ گزشتہ دنوں جماعت اسلامی کے طلبہ ونگ کے ایک گروپ نے ہمارے طلباء پر تشدد کیا تھا اور دوبارہ ان کے ہاسٹلوں میں بھی جاکر نہ صرف توڑ پھوڑ کی تھی بلکہ طلباء کو تشدد کا نشانہ بھی بنایا تھا ۔ آج اسی گروہ نے گلگت بلتستان کے طلباء کے خلاف مقدمے درج کروائے ہیں ۔ کیمپس میں اسلامی جمعیت کے انتہاپسند اور پولیس دونوں مل کے گلگت بلتستان کے پرامن طلباء وطالبات کو ہراساں کررہے ہیں ۔ یونیورسٹی انتظامیہ کا کردار انتہائی افسوسناک ہے ۔
