Our beautiful girl Irha has been diagnosed with type 2 SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). SMA is a genetic neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and wasting due to the loss of motor neurons. It is a degenerative disease that if left untreated, is fatal. At around 12 months old, we realised something wasn't right with Irha. She wasn't hitting the expected milestones that babies should have at his age. She could not support her head against Gravity, she stopped kicking her legs, and the movement in herr arms was getting worse rather than better. After bringing her to hospital, blood tests confirmed our worst nightmare when she was diagnosed with SMA. Unfortunately, at that time (2020), no medicine for SMA was available in Pakistan, Now there is hope for Irha to get the Medicine, as Evrysdi (Risdiplam) is available in Pakistan. She has been working so hard on daily physical therapy sessions from last 60 months to keep her muscles active.
