A 24-year-old male patient came to us with a complaint of bleeding teeth, bad breath, black and brown stains, and swelled gums. After clinical checkup, We suggest scaling and polishing of his teeth, the results of which are in front of you.
***Gum disease is often caused by a build up of plaque bacteria, the best way to remove this is by twice daily tooth brushing. But no matter how well you clean your teeth there will always be hard to reach areas that are tricky to keep clean. In these areas, plaque bacteria can accumulate and may eventually mineralise to form a tough, crusty deposit called calculus or tartar, which is impossible to remove by brushing alone. If not removed, more plaque can build up around the tooth and potentially under the gum line, leading to the progression of gum disease.
To reduce the risk of gum disease or to help stop it from becoming more serious, your dentist may recommend that you have a professional clean, called a scale and polish, to get your teeth properly clean.***

Encouraging Patients to get rid of their Self Cure 'Fixed'* Dentures 🫡
Due to lack of awareness, people consider self-cure dentures as fixed dentures, which leads to various oral diseases such as oral cancer.
A removable partial denture (RPD) is a dental prosthesis that is used to replace multiple missing teeth. If a patient is not a candidate for a fixed dental bridge, or a dental implant, then an RPD is an option.
A removable partial denture enables the restoration or improvement of 4 oral functions: aesthetics, mandibular stability, mastication, and speech.

When root canal treatment is needed?
Root canal treatment is needed when dental X-rays show that the pulp has been damaged by a bacterial infection.
The pulp may become inflamed if it's infected by bacteria, allowing the bacteria to multiply and spread.
The symptoms of a pulp infection include:
> pain when eating or drinking hot or cold food and drink
> pain when biting or chewing
> a loose tooth
As the infection progresses, these symptoms often disappear as the pulp dies.Your tooth then appears to have healed, but the infection has in fact spread through the root canal system.
You eventually get further symptoms such as:
> pain when biting or chewing returning
> swelling of the gum near the affected tooth
> pus oozing from the affected tooth
> a swollen cheek or jaw
> the tooth becoming a darker colour
It's important to see your dentist if you develop toothache. If your tooth is infected, the pulp cannot heal by itself. Leaving the infected tooth in your mouth may make it worse. There may also be less chance of the root canal treatment working if the infection within your tooth becomes established.
Antibiotics, a medicine to treat bacterial infections, are not effective in treating root canal infections. They can though help to treat infection that spreads beyond the root and causes swelling.
Before having root canal treatment, you'll usually be given a local anaesthetic. This means the procedure should be painless and no more unpleasant than having a filling.
After the bacteria have been removed, the root canal is filled and the tooth sealed with a filling or crown.
In most cases the inflamed tissue near the tooth will heal naturally.
Root canal treatment is usually successful. In about 9 out of 10 cases a tooth can survive for up to 10 years after root canal treatment.
Recovering from root canal treatment...
It's important to look after your teeth when recovering from root canal treatment.
You should avoid biting on hard foods until your treatment is complete.
After your final treatment, your restored tooth should no longer be painful, although it may feel sore for a few days.
You can take over-the-counter painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to relieve any discomfort.
Return to your dentist if you still have pain or swelling after using painkillers.
In most cases it's possible to prevent the need for further root canal treatment by:
keeping your teeth clean.
not eating too much sugary food.
giving up smoking if you smoke
Find out how to take care of your teeth and gums.
Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries, are caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in your mouth, frequent snacking, sipping sugary drinks and not cleaning your teeth well.

What Are Supernumerary Teeth?
If a person has one or more teeth that are additional to these typical sets of teeth, the person is said to have hyperdontia, and the additional teeth are known as supernumerary teeth (a condition known as hyperdontia) are those that develop in the mouth in addition to normal teeth. Up to 3.8% of people have one or more extra (supernumerary) teeth. An extra tooth can be visible (erupted) or impacted (not broken through the gum).
Supernumerary teeth can appear anywhere in the mouth and are most often found among the permanent teeth but they tend to be harder to identify, as they often erupt normally, are shaped like other teeth, and are in correct alignment. A clinical examination by a dentist or an X-ray usually leads to the diagnosis.
Complications:
Supernumerary teeth can cause a variety of dental problems that interfere with normal oral function and health and present cosmetic issues. Some of the dental problems hyperdontia can cause include:
✓ Tooth impaction.
✓ Crowding, displacement, and misalignment of normal permanent teeth.
✓ Issues with proper chewing.
✓ Fusion with permanent teeth.
✓ Premature closure of spaces in between the teeth.
✓ The formation of oral cysts or tumors.
✓ The eruption of teeth into the nasal cavity.
✓ Problems with bone grafting necessary for dental implants.
Treatments
It is important to identify and treat supernumerary teeth as soon as possible. This may include its extraction (Removal of tooth).
A 14-year-old female patient came to us with complain of pain in her upper molar region. On clinical checkup, we found mild swelling of her gums and food impaction in the interdental space. Also, an extra tooth was found there which is located bucally to her 2nd premolar tooth. We advised her an OPG and PA to confirm our diagnosis after asking about the possibility of retained deciduous teeth. We confirmed the presence of a Supernumerary Tooth (an Extra Tooth which is perfectly Canine shaped) rarely found in some people. We suggest extraction of that tooth if it causes any trouble. But the patient didn't want to extract. So we planned scaling and polishing and suggested her take care of oral hygiene by proper brushing and flossing.
.
A 44-year-old male patient came to us with complain of pain in his upper molar. After a clinical check-up, we found swelling around the tooth and it was partially broken from the buccal side.. We suggested RCT but the patient wanted to extract his tooth. Picture attached for reference. .
.
A 63-year-old male patient came to us with complain of severe pain in his upper right wisdom tooth. After a clinical check-up, we found mild swelling around the tooth and it was grossly carious from the mesial side, as the cusp was broken.. The tooth was infected and the patient felt pain at touch. We planned extraction of his wisdom tooth. Picture attached for reference. Forgot to take a picture of his radiograph. .
.
Tooth Loss due to negligence / Poor Oral Hygiene. :(
A 34-year-old female patient came to us with complain of pain and swelling. On clinical checkup we found Grade III mobility of her lower Incisors, the tooth surface was completely covered with tartar, severely infected and swelled gums, gums bled and the patient felt pain on touch. We planned extraction of her mobile tooth and advised scaling and polishing.
Picture attached..
***Gingivitis (gum inflammation) usually happens before periodontitis (gum disease). In a person with periodontitis, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infected. As the disease progresses, the pockets deepen and more gum tissue and bone are destroyed. When this happens, teeth are no longer anchored in place, they become loose, and tooth loss occurs. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. You can prevent or even reverse it by simply brushing your teeth, flossing, and having regular dental cleanings and checkups.***
.
A 52-year-old female patient came to us with complain of pain and swelling in her lower anterior region. After a clinical check-up, we found the culprit tooth. The crown portion of the tooth was already broken due to caries.. The remaining part of the tooth was infected and the patient felt severe pain at touch. We planned extraction of that BDR (Broken Down Root) of tooth 41.
