HERBARIUM PLANTS:
A collection of dried and preserved plant arranged according to classification system and available for study or references.
HISTORY OF HERBARIUM:
the word herbarium referred to books about medicinal plants but around 1700, the French botanist Joseph Pitton de Tournefort used the word to describe a collection of dried plants. Linnaeus continued this usage and it came to supersede earlier terms such as hortus siccus (literally 'dry garden').
HERBARIUM SHEET SIZE:
The size of a herbarium sheet is 30 x 45 cm which is slightly small than the size of American herbarium, (29 x 41cm) and label size is 7 x 12.
IMPORTANCE OF HERBARIUM:
Herbaria document the world's flora and provide a constant and permanent record of botanical diversity. This role is increasingly important as the rate of habitat destruction increases and climate change precipitates rapid changes in species' ranges and all aspects of their ecology.
USES OF HERBARIUM SHEET:
Discover or confirm the identity of a plant or determine that it is new to science (taxonomy); Document the concepts of the specialists who have studied the specimens in the past (taxonomy); Provide locality data for planning field trips (taxonomy, systematics, teaching).
The nation is celebrating the 145th birth anniversary of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal with traditional zeal and fervour today (November 9).
Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot, within the Punjab Province of British India (now in Pakistan). He died on 21 April 1938 in Lahore, Punjab, British India.
Beside awakening Muslims of the Subcontinent through his poetry, Allama Iqbal had presented the idea of the creation of Pakistan in his historic address at Allahabad in 1930

Awareness Walk For Nature 2022
Theme:
Conserve Biodiversity
Sustain Humanity
Save a tree to save a life. There is no life without trees as they give us oxygen and food, the two vital things we need to survive.
Trees are important to maintain an ecological balance as they are the producers of food in the food chain.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and hence, reduce atmospheric carbon levels. This leads to a reduction in global warming and prevents climate change to a large extent.
Trees conserve soil and prevent erosion, and also enrich the soil.
Trees help to conserve water.
Trees help to promote biodiversity by aiding in the growth and development of animals.
Save trees as it saves us from harmful solar radiation and keeps the environment cool. It also provides shade and protects us from the sun's heat.
Trees provide aesthetic value to the locality.
Trees are environmentally and economically important, hence, save trees."
