In every society and time, change often begins with a small group of passionate individuals determined to make a difference. Such was the case at PULC, where a handful of students took up the mantle to raise awareness about Alternative Dispute Resolution. This blog explores the remarkable one and a half year of the Young Mediatorβs Forum and the transformation of ADR's prospects at PULC, showcasing the commitment, perseverance, and pioneering spirit of the YMF team.
The need for ADR in the legal realm and in Pakistan was felt by a few students, who God knows are going to make a reasonable change at the grass root level, when they visited Justice Anwar ul Haq doing family mediations with over surprising 85% success rate under Aao Sulah Karein (ASK) project. By delving deep into ADR and realizing the immense potential of ADR in addressing the backlog of cases and promoting amicable resolution of disputes, they decided to initiate Young Mediatorβs Forum, a platform that would serve as the catalyst for change with the aim of awaring young minds about ADR and in bringing Domestic ADR revolution in Pakistan.
After formulating their short and long-term goals the zealous team of YMF despite various constraints knocked on every door and met every man they thought could assist them in achieving their aim of bringing ADR revolution in Pakistan. Realizing the importance of collaboration, the Young Mediator's Forum reached out to local and international organizations as well as experienced ADR professionals. The forum's members were exposed to diverse perspectives and learned from the practical wisdom of ADR experts, further expanding their understanding and honing their skills.
The Young Mediator's Forum actively engaged in educational initiatives, organizing seminars, webinars, Courses, and membership drives to spread awareness about ADR within and beyond PULC. As we know that these are the current students that will be the future ADR establishers. These endeavors aimed to empower young minds, inspiring them to explore the possibilities of ADR and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Recognizing the limited attention given to ADR in the LLB curriculum, Young Mediatorβs Forum recognized the need to expand the study of ADR and advocated for a dedicated paper. Through countless discussions, proposals, and presentations, they persuaded the authorities to transform the 20-marks topic into a comprehensive 100-marks paper. This groundbreaking accomplishment will empower students from over 700 law colleges to delve into the fascinating world of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), equipping them with valuable knowledge and awareness of this dynamic realm of resolving conflicts. This unconventional realization marked a paradigm shift in the significance and recognition of ADR within the institution.
While the transformation of the curriculum was an extraordinary achievement, the Young Mediatorβs Forum yearned for a practical avenue to apply their newfound knowledge. With unwavering determination, they set their sights on establishing an ADR clinic. This ambitious endeavor required meticulous planning, coordination, and resource mobilization. Through their collective efforts and unwavering belief, the ADR clinic became a reality, providing a space for disputing parties to seek resolution through different modes of ADR, outside the traditional adversarial courtroom setting.
The tireless efforts of the Young Mediator's Forum yielded tangible results. The journey of the Young Mediator's Forum at PULC showcases the transformative power of dedicated individuals determined to reshape the landscape of legal education. Their efforts not only expanded the prospects of ADR within PULC but also instilled a sense of empowerment and awareness among young minds.
As the Young Mediator's Forum continues to flourish, its journey stands as a testament to the remarkable impact that can challenge the status quo and bring a reasonable change. By fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and change, they have paved the way for future generations to embrace the transformative potential of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
