🐆 🏔️ Blink and you'll miss it! A #snowleopard crosses the road in the Khunjerab National Park, Gilgit Baltistan. Such sightings of the elusive cat are becoming more common, and unfortunately, thats not good news. Let us share why. Since the completion of the Karakoram Highway in the 1970s, Gilgit-Baltistan has undergone rapid linear infrastructure development. Snow Leopards in #Pakistan face a combination of conventional & modern #threats from #hunters & poachers, habitat loss due to climate change, habitat fragmentation from human settlements & infrastructure development, competition for prey, & human wildlife conflict. A recent study by @wwfpak suggests there is increasing evidence that expanding roads & railway networks lead to #habitat fragmentation, hampering the movement of #snowleopards, particularly in lowlands where it searches for prey or mates. #InternationalSnowLeopardDay

Water is life. Water is food. Water is everything. But we treat it as if it’s nothing - along with the rivers, lakes and wetlands that store and supply it. The result is the world’s worsening water crisis. This threatens not only US$58 trillion in economic value each year but also our water and food security. And global efforts to adapt to climate change and reverse nature loss. 🚨 We must all stop turning a blind eye to the ongoing destruction of our rivers, lakes & wetlands because they are essential for our survival. Leaders must act NOW to protect and restore our freshwater life support systems. #ValuingWater #WaterFoodDay #ClimateCrisis #ClimateAction
