Team Signify in collaboration with Paigham-e-Pakistan held a National Peace Symposium on 9th and 10th June at Rommy Signature Hotel, Islamabad.

The event aimed to bring together the community leaders and religious leaders working towards and taking initiatives accordingly in their local communities in South Punjab and Karachi. The objective of this event was to raise awareness of the existing peace-building works led by the government and to highlight platforms for the leaders to engage with and make their peace building in order to create a .

Honorable MNA Romina Khurshid Alam, (Convener SDGs Parliamentary Task Force and PM’s Special Advisor) and Honorable MNA Naveed Aamir spoke to the participants with regards to the importance of such missions and offered their support to on ground initiatives. Signify is working together to support the federal SDGs taskforce and SDG 16 Subgroup to align their work and priorities with peacebuilding programs. Signify has already engaged subgroup members to share knowledge on , relevant SDG 16 indicators, and their effective outreach. In order to reach out to a larger audience on issues related to regional peace and social , talk shows with relevant CSOs, parliamentarians, and government officials are being aired on 24th May 2022 from 2 - 3 pm on RoohiTv and 8 pm on Capital Tv.

Signify in collaboration with Azm-e-Pakistan held a District Peace conference in Bahawalpur today. All partners united towards gathered together to converse on maneuvers directed by them in their communities, highlighting the achievements and trials to focus on new strategies to maintain the hard work of all stakeholders, government officials, and institutions working to build a culturally and society.

With this event, Signify also marks, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue held on 21st May which directs us to perform the essential role of dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development. Signify in collaboration with subgroup SGD16 of the National Parliamentary Taskforce held a one-day roundtable conference on 17th May 2022 to engage a diverse group of stakeholders including parliamentarians, government officials, institutional organizations, CSOs, academia, and religious scholars/leaders.

During the conference, the stakeholders interacted to discuss the Annual plan developed for SDG16 Subgroup and build action points for their respective institutions. The event brought together Hon MNAs Dr. Nisar Ahmed Cheema, Kheeal Das Kohistani, Naveed Aamir and MPA Arsalan Taj who pledged unity and motivation towards promoting peace and tolerance in their communities. The conference gave an opportunity to the SDGs section, units and policy makers engaged in localization of SDGs to engage with key stakeholders including civil society, international development agencies, media and academia allowing collaboration for effective implementation and localization of the SDG 16 agenda.

The engagement also allowed us to mark the International Day of Living Together in Peace, as through our work we plan to maintain the need to live and act together, united in differences and , to construct , solidarity and in our communities. The recommended actions from this conference will be included in the Annual Roadmap of SDG 16 subgroup.

Signify held a District Peace Conference today, in collaboration with Azm-e-Pakistan at Hotel Avalon, Multan. Bringing together all partners to discuss initiatives led by them in their specific community, highlighting the success and challenges, and to build strategy to sustain the efforts of different stakeholders, different government officials and Institutions working towards building a and society.

District-level community leaders shared their experiences of engaging with communities for peacebuilding. These actions the people to have their voices heard and strengthened the participatory approach necessary for community !

As part of Signify’s commitment to engage all segments of the society in peace building, Signify held a District Women’s Peace Conference in collaboration with Women University Multan and Azm-e-Pakistan on 11th May 2022 in Jinnah Auditorium, Women University Multan. The summit engaged multiple stakeholders including academic leadership, community leaders, students and civil society organizations engaged in initiatives in South Punjab and Karachi to help empower young women to inspire them to be part of a united solution for a and Pakistan.

Signify organized Stakeholder coordination meetings from 26th April to 28th April 2022, with partner organizations working on to a common understanding of the issues, challenges, and opportunities provided in South Punjab regarding peacebuilding.

The meetings were held in Multan and Bahawalpur, to discuss outreach, and to develop an implementation for the activities including, district peace conferences, and a women-centric Seminar as an opening seminar of the multipurpose sports ground in Women University Multan to showcase their achievements on bringing in society.

A two-day exposure visit activity was held on 18th and 19th April, 2022 at Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University Islamabad. The visit aimed to engage a delegation of CSOs, academia leadership, and religious’ scholars/leaders from Southern Punjab and Karachi to effective oversight of SDG 16 with an emphasis on peacebuilding related laws and policies.

The event was attended by policy makers which included MNA Romina Khurshid, along with government officials from custodian institutions including SDGs Section, SDGs Secretariat, Pakistan Institute For Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in order to orient audience on programming and the relevance of the thematic area to their institution. Partners working in this area joined the visit from South Punjab and Sindh to showcase their work and to discuss challenges and recommendations based on their engagement in peacebuilding activities.

The Two-Day National Youth and Parliamentarians Peacebuilding Summit was curated in Islamabad, on 14th and 15th March 2022. The summit helped create an and roadmap for future engagement of the parliamentarians and government functionaries for implementing CVE reforms.

Moeed Yusuf, The National Security Advisor led an interactive session where he briefed the participants on National Security Policy (NSP) and its role in . The session also served the purpose of giving parliamentarians exposure to the key policy of the country. Addressing the participants, he said the objective of the NSP was to form a coherent vision on which all stakeholders could agree as a system on a common definition of ‘national security and Pakistan’s vision for its national security goals and objectives' has been recognized as an important stakeholder for effective implementation of the policies.

Two-Day National Youth and Parliamentarians’ Peacebuilding Summit was held in Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services, Islamabad on 14 and 15 March 2022. In collaboration with the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), we focused on innovative approaches in community and .

The summit was inaugurated by his excellency the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi who was welcomed by MNA Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, President YPF, MNA Kanwal Shauzab, General-Secretary YPF.

On the second day the young participants got an opportunity to engage with Moeed Yousaf, National Security Advisor, Asad Qaiser, Speaker of National Assembly and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

Students from all major universities of Islamabad and federal and provincial legislators from Sindh and Punjab were present at the summit. During the summit, National security policy, interfaith strategies and peacebuilding through curricula were some key areas discussed and multiple strategies highlighted to enhance the role of in promoting in Pakistan.

A seminar on the Role of Women in Peacebuilding was held by Signify on the 23rd February, ’22, focusing on Promoting Peace in in collaboration with the The Women University Multan. 80 students hailing from different student societies established as part of the project, and 13 faculty members participated in the seminar along with other key stakeholders. The discussions were focused on providing to students on the Roles of Women in different sectors for in and around the campuses of WUM. The panelists also shared upcoming opportunities in different sectors and motivated the young females to tackle challenges in the future with . An exposure visit was held for the youth of Sindh. 30 Students were selected from Interior Sindh and South Punjab to participate. The visit was aiming to connect the students better with policy makers, learn the working ways of the parliament, develop skills and, to connect with the society and to build them to become youth activist’s in the future.

Students were taken to National Assembly and met with Honorable Deputy Speaker, Mr. Qasim Khan Suri to learn about government’s priorities for . The young peace activists also visited other offices and engage with members of Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), Parliamentary SDGs Secretariat, Pakistan Institute For Parliamentary Services(PIPS) and Pegham-e-Pakistan. They were also given an opportunity to share their ideas with institutional donors and policy think tanks: United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). We hope these future leaders will be able to utilize their learning experiences during this visit to advance their work on social cohesion and community resilience.
