Use of Abacus Tool

Basic mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are solved by simple movement of beads in this instrument. Abacus Sharpens Observational Skills.

As a child handles the beads of the frame with his/her fingers and sets them up to make calculations, they develop better observational skills and can examine situations and conclude more firmly. When learning abacus, there is a predominant use of flashcards; the kids are required to look at the flashcards, remember the numbers on the card and make calculations accordingly. This greatly improves the observational skills in kids, enhancing memory retention in them.

Both- the abacus and a calculator are visual and kinesthetic tools, an abacus can teach concepts better and a calculator can solve problems of time and speed. They both have their effective uses in their own places. For enhanced learning, students should be introduced to abacus math and later on given the provision of calculators once their understanding of concepts is clear.
