I never underestimate the huge amount of courage it takes for an owner to hand over their beloved pet into our care. Especially in emergency, as often we have no prior relationship with them because they have never been to us before. I always take the time to LISTEN TO OWNERS, reassure them that they did the right thing, they are in the best place and that I will do my best to take care of their pet as if it was my own.

As a veterinarian it is important that we take regular moments to acknowledge that it is a gift to be able to care for these pets in their time of need, and a privilege to be trusted with their lives. 😊

Second, breast cancer is the number one type of cancer diagnosed in intact (unspayed) female cats. If your cat is spayed before her first heat cycle, there is less than ½ of 1% (0.5%) chance of developing breast cancer. With every subsequent heat cycle, the risk of developing breast cancer increases. After about 2½ years of age, ovariohysterectomy offers no protective benefit against developing breast cancer.
Unspayed female cats also carry the risk of developing pyometra – a fatal condition of the uterus that requires surgery to treat.
Finally, cats with diabetes or epilepsy should be spayed to prevent hormonal changes that may interfere with medications.

In veterinary practice, ear mite infections in dogs and cats may present as a disease that causes intense itching in one or both ears, which in turn triggers scratching at the affected ear. An unusually dark colored ear wax (cerumen) may also be produced. Cats, as well as dogs with erect ears that have control over ear direction, may be seen with one or both ear pinnas held at an odd or flattened angle.

Suspected for CCRD.
Mycoplasmosis can cause chronic respiratory disease and decreased growth or egg production and affected carcasses sent to slaughter may be downgraded. Some birds may not show symptoms. Observable clinical signs may include rales, coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, frothiness and swelling around the eyes or difficulty breathing. Signs are often more severe in turkeys. MS can cause respiratory disease similar to MG but if it becomes systemic it can cause lameness, swollen joints, loss of weight and breast blisters.
