Gasherbrum IV, surveyed as K3, is the 17th highest mountain on Earth and the 6th highest in Pakistan. It is one of the peaks in the Gasherbrum massif. The Gasherbrums are a remote group of peaks located at the northeastern end of the Baltoro Glacier in the Karakoram range of the Himalaya.
K2 Base Camp is the base camp for climbers of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. You can find K2 in the northwestern Karakoram Range in Pakistan, partly in the at an altitude of 5,117 m or 16,785 ft. As is the case with many high peaks, there are different names for K2. In Chinese K2 is known as Qogir Feng, and locally they call the mountain Dapsang or Chogori. Another English name for the mountain is Mount Godwin-Austen, after Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen a British topographer who surveyed the area around K2 in the late 19th Century. Of course, there are also nicknames for K2. Besides nicknames like The Mountaineers' Mountain or the King of Mountains, K2 is best known as the Savage Mountain.
SHANDUR POLO FESTIVAL HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FROM 1ST TO 3RD JULY 2022
The annual Shandur Polo Festival has been scheduled from 1st to 3rd July 2022.
Shandur Polo Festival is a regular mega event of the Gilgit-Baltistan Government which is held from 7th to 9th July every year on the highest polo ground in the world, bordering the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the event has been scheduled this year from 1st to 3rd July 2022 due to the falling of Eid-ul-Azha. Both the governments of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa jointly arrange the said mega event.
Cultural shows, exhibitions, temporary bazaars and musical nights shall be the main events in addition to a series of free-style polo matches that is a cherished attraction for both foreign and domestic tourists.
Thowar is the administrative center of Roundu Subdivision, District Skardu Gilgit-Baltistan. Roundu valley is an about 150 kilometers long canyon along the banks of the Indus River, Pakistan's longest river. The total population of Roundu Valley is approximately 100,000 and the Subdivisional Headquarter is at the Thowar valley. Gilgit-Skardu road passes through the Thowar valley bisecting the Dambudas, the market area and downtown of Thowar valley.
Hyderabad (Bimal Das) is a beautiful small town located in Hunza Valley in the North of Pakistan, which is surrounded by magnificent mountains.
The main attraction of Hyderabad is an old polo ground (Shabaran) which is still present but has been redesigned according to present needs of the people of Center Hyderabad.
Sost or Sust is a village in Gojal, Upper Hunza, Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. It is the last town inside Pakistan on the Karakoram Highway before the Chinese border. It is elevated 2,800 meters above sea level. The town is an important place on the highway for all passenger and cargo transport because all traffic crossing the Pakistan-China border passes through this town; the Pakistani immigration and customs departments are based here. Pakistan and China have opened border for trade and tourism at Khunjerab.
Shimshal (Old Name: Shingshal) is a village located in Gojal Tehsil of Hunza District, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is the largest valley in Gilgit-Baltistan and it covers almost area of Hunza District. It is in the valley of the Shimshal River, a tributary of the Hunza River. Shimshal is a border village that connects the Gilgit-Baltistan area of Pakistan with China.
Nasirabad is a town located in the Hunza District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Nasirabad was known as Hayul Dass during the Rono age. It was later known as Manishmal, a Hindi word for "a fertile place with great prosperity". Later still it was known as "Hini", derived from "Hin", which means "snow" in the Shina language. The earliest known history of Nasirabad dates back to the Rono people, who flourished across the Hunza region. The Rono emerged and flourished before the early-16th-century arrival of the forefathers of the current tribes in the settlement, such as the Tartay and Doodiye.
Misgar is a village and valley situated in the northern end of Pakistan. It is on the edge of Hunza District in Gilgit-Baltistan where Pakistan border China and Afghanistan. In recent years, it is also the base for an easy and fascinating trek to Kilik Pass and Mintaka Pass, two Silk Road passes to Tarim Basin in China.
Mayoon or Maiun is a village and a small region of modern farms in the high mountainous Hunza area of northern Pakistan. This region of the Hunza Valley is known for its high quality water, scenic views of the nearby mountain peaks, and its advanced agriculture. Major crops include corn, wheat, mulberries, peas and assorted vegetables. The mountainous region also produces fruits including grapes, apricots, plums, and cherries.
Hussainabad is a small village in Hunza, Pakistan. Hussainabad is considered as most educated region in Hunza where every household has at-least one master's degree holder. Geographically Hussainabad is situated to left side of the river and is mostly affected by natural calamities.
Karimabad formerly known as Baltit, is the capital of Hunza District, in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan. The Guardian ranked it as one of the five "Best Tourist Sites" in Pakistan.
Karimabad was named in honour of Prince Karim Aga Khan, the current spiritual head of Shia Ismaili Nizari community, though locals often still refer to Karimabad by its older name Baltit.
Gulmit also known as Gul-e-Gulmit, is a town that serves as headquarter of the Gojal, also known as Upper Hunza, in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Gulmit is a centuries-old historic town, with mountains, peaks and glaciers. It is a tourist spot and has many historic places, hotels, shops and a museum.

Aliabad is the administrative and commercial center of the Hunza District of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. The town is located in a relatively wide section of the Hunza Valley, in the northeastern corner of the Karakoram range, between two forks of the Hunza River. In May 2010 government officials warned that the nearby Attabad lake was close to flooding the area. Like most localities in Hunza–Nagar, Aliabad lies along the Karakoram Highway, which crosses this mountainous district.
Hunza is a mountainous valley in the autonomous Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Hunza is situated in the northern part of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, bordering with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west and the Xinjiang region of China to the north-east. The valley of Punial is situated in Ghizer District in the Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, where hundreds of thousands of tourists visit annually. The word “Punial” is from the Shina language. It has two meanings: “fertile land” and “bucket of fruits”. Punial is related to neighbour areas of Gilgit agency. Punially people belonged to A***n “Mazdaism”, Shina language penetrated in the area.
The Ishkoman valley lies in the north of Ghizer District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan and the Pamir Wakhan Corridor. The valley consists of more than 30 villages, with a total population of 30,000 inhabitants. Three major languages are spoken here: Shina [in Proper Ishkoman], Khowar [in Chatorkhand], Wakhi [in Imit], while a minor language spoken in the area is Burushaski [in Barjangal].
Gahkuch: is the capital city of Ghizer District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The city lies on the way to Ishkoman. It is covered by mountains. It is situated 72 kilometers northwest of Gilgit, the capital of Pakistan's autonomous Gilgit-Baltistan province.
Gilgit is the capital city of Gilgit–Baltistan, a territory comprising the northern region of Pakistan. The city is located in a broad valley near the confluence of the Gilgit River and Hunza River. Gilgit is a major tourist destination in Pakistan, and serves as a hub for trekking and mountaineering expeditions in the Karakoram mountain range.
Gilgit-Baltistan is administratively divided into three divisions: Baltistan, Diamer and Gilgit, which, in turn, are divided into fourteen districts, consisting of the five Baltistan districts of Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang, Rondu and Ghanche, and the four Gilgit districts of Gilgit, Ghizer, Hunza and Nagar and four districts of Diamer and Astore are part of Diamer Division. The principal administrative centers are the towns of Gilgit and Skardu.
Shandur-Hundrup National Park:
Shandur-Hundrup National Park was established in 2012. It covers 8,000 acres of land and it is in Ghizer district o Gilgit-Baltistan. It is often called 'Roof of the World'. It also hosts Shandur Polo Festival. During the annual 'Shandur Polo Festival,' there are polo matches played in Shandur Polo Ground on Shandur Top, between the teams of Chitral District and Gilgit-Baltistan Province.
Qurumber National Park covers 182,858 acres. It is located in Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It was established in 2011.
Fairy Meadows National Park:
Fairy Meadows is famous for its beautiful lush green plateaus and World’s ninth biggest mountain Nanga Parbat (the Killer Mountain) and located in Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan Pakistan, at an altitude of about 3,300 meters above the sea level. Fairy Meadows is also called “Heaven on Earth” due to its matchless beauty. A very peaceful & relaxing place to enjoy the mountain view soaking in the atmosphere & hospitality of the local people.
Khunjerab National Park is a national park in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Khunjerab National Park is Pakistan's third largest national park, and is adjacent to the Taxkorgan Natural Reserve in China. It is considered one of the few highest altitude parks in the world. It is home many endangered and threatened animal species like the Snow leopard, Marco Polo sheep, and Himalayan Ibex.
The Deosai National Park is a high-altitude alpine plain (plateau) and national park in the Northern Pakistan region of Gilgit Baltistan.
Deosai Plains are situated at an average elevation of 4,114 metres (13,497 ft) above sea level and considered as the second highest plateaus in the world.
Central Karakoram National Park is a national park located in Skardu district of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. It encompasses some of the world’s highest peaks and largest glaciers. Internationally renowned for mountaineering, rock climbing and trekking opportunities, it covers an area of about 10,000 sq. km and contains the greatest concentration of high mountains on earth. It has four peaks over 8,000 m including K2 (8611 m), Gasherbrum-I (8068 m), Gasherbrum-II (8035 m) and Broad Peak (8051 m), and sixty peaks higher than 7,000 m. The park was placed on the World Heritage Site Tentative List in 2016.
