Oath Taking Ceremony of Proctors and CRs

The auspicious occasion of oath taking ceremony of BS proctors and CRs was successfully conducted at Government Graduate College for Women, Gulberg in the Arfa Syeda Zahra Hall under the supervision of honourable Principal Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar , Vice Principal and the Incharge Discipline Committee. The ceremony was attended by the discipline committee members, HoDs, faculty members, and students from all departments.

Ms. Arooj Fatima hosted the event, starting with the recitation of Holy Quran and Naat by BS Students from Islamiyat Department.

Discipline in charge, Ms . Ayesha Jabeen delievered a motivational speech highlighting the responsibilities and duties of the proctorship and class representation.
Subsequently, an impressive parade and formation of selected Proctors and CRs took Oath in the presence of the respected faculty and members.
The worthy principal then addressed the audience with an inspirational note on values of discipline and concluded with heartwarming appreciation for the discipline incharge, committee, CRs, and Proctors and high hopes for the future of the college.
At the end of the remarkable ceremony, a group photo was taken to celebrate the milestone.

A flowery farewell function of Mrs Azra Naheed was organised by Chemistry Department on 13th of January 2024. The event was hosted by Mrs Sobia Zia who welcomed all the speakers and guests with her enchanted poetry. Madam Principal acknowledged the services of madam Azra and appreciated her long symbolic journey of almost 35 years. The college council & management committee along with Madam Principal & Vice Principal presented a shield and a bouquet of love to Ms. Azra Naheed. All HODs appreciated her humble attitude and sweet smile. Madam Azra also shared her loving and unforgettable memories. The HOD chemistry thanked the fine arts Dept., home economics dept., guests, all staff members and madam vice principal for her services in organising the event. At the end madam Vice Principal also appreciated mam Azra’s dutifulness,humbleness and kindness.

Report of Quaid-e- Azam Day Celebrations
147th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was celebrated at Government Graduate College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore. Students and faculty members participated in the celebration enthusiastically.
The ceremony commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. The students paid tribute to their leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah by presenting speeches and sung national songs in their melodious voices. The function ended with national anthem. Worthy Principal Dr. Nighat Nahid Zafar and Vice Principal Dr. Shagufta Gulraiz took keen interest and supervised all activities.

36 years of Excellence

On the 12th of December, 2023, we said official goodbye to HOD English Language and Literature and BS Controller Examination, Prof. Aneela Altaf after 36 illustrious years of ‘service above self’ in the field of education. Dr.Saman Imtaz hosted this beautiful ceremony.The principal GGCW, Gulberg, Dr Nighat Naheed Zafar, while acknowledging her services said that Ms Aneela’s efforts in streamlining the BS Examination system are unforgettable especially during the Covid Spell when all Examinations and classes were being held online. She appreciated her endeavours in making the college resplendent with hundreds of new plants. Under Prof. Anila’s headship, all English Literary Societies were formally launched and will be responsible for conducting annual co-curricular activities for the overall grooming and character building of the college students.
Prof. Altaf Malik, Ms Aneela’s husband and their son, Ahsan also attended the Farewell function in which the cake was cut and lunch was served by college administration. Prof. Lubna Jamal, the new HOD, English, thanked the principal and the staff for organising a grand event, in which many serving and retired staff members, paid their tribute to Prof Aneela Altaf. Sir Abid Maqsood Hashmi, Chair “Public Image”, Rotary Club of Lahore Crescent and Principal Dr Nighat Naheed Zafar, presented the award of “Service above Self” to Professor Aneela Altaf. The principal Dr Nighat and Vice Principal, Dr Shagufta Gulraiz, also presented the College shield “36 years of Excellence” to her. Mrs Altaf was also given a beautiful “mala”, a flower wreath (in shape of a headband, and dozens of bouquets from all departments of the college.
In the end Mrs Altaf thanked the principal and staff for giving her such an elegant send off.

Two days research seminar cm workshop was designed by Education Department at Govt. Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore on 5 & 6" December, 2023. The theme of the first day (dated 5 December 2023) research seminar cm workshop was "Development of Proposal and Report Writing." The theme of the second day (dated 6 December 2023) research seminar cm workshop was "Data Analysis."

The speaker at the research seminar cm workshop was Dr. Ghazala Noureen. She is a social scientist with stunning leadership, counseling, research and empirical abilities. She did her Ph.D. from Institute of Education & Research, Punjab University, Lahore and Post-Doctorate from University of Wolver Hampton. She is a well-known and experienced educationist with 32 years of experience. In recent, she is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Education at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore. She is the Chairperson and performing administrative responsibilities efficiently. She initiated Ph.D. Education Program, MS Education Self- Supporting Program, B.Ed Secondary Self-Supporting Program, B.Ed 1.5 Regular/Self- Supporting Program and Departmental Journal (Journal of Interdisciplinary

Educational Studies). Moreover, she is also teaching Ph.D, M.Phil, B.Ed classes as well as supervising PhD, M.Phil, B.Ed Theses.

Worthy Principal, Prof. Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar was the chief guest and Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Shagufta Gulraiz was the guest of honour of the program. The seminar cm workshop was attended by the students of B.Ed (Hons) Secondary. Education and the students of MS Education (Secondary) by Lahore College for women university, Lahore. Important, interactive and insightful presentations were given by Dr. Ghazala Noureen. All the participants of workshop found the presentations very informative and useful.

Prof. Dr. Shahida Sohail (Head of Education Department) Govt. Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore thanked the resource person for her time and commitment. Refreshments were served to the guests and students who attended the event.

Girl Guides Association Held, GGCW enrolled it's 4th batch of Girl Guides on 4th December, 2023 at Arfa Syeda Hall under patronage of Respected principal Dr. Nighat Zafar. The head trainer PGGA Punjab Miss Salma and Miss Nadeema the Punjab commissioner of PGGA were invited on this occasion to enroll the Guides.

Lahore District Cricket Matches in connection with 2nd HED Sports 2023-2024, triggered by worthy Prof Dr Syed Ansar Azhar DPI Colleges Punjab and his sports wing have been played at the cricket ground of Govt. Associate College for Women, Rakh Shabeel Manawan Lahore today on 29.11.2023. Govt. Graduate College for women Gulberg Lahore bagged 1st Position, Govt. Associate College for Women Rakh Shabeel Manawan Lahore bagged 2nd whereas Govt. Queen Mary College got 3rd position. Director Colleges Lahore Division Prof Muhammad Zahid Mian distributed the prizes to the winning teams.

The English Debating Society organized Inter-Class English Debate Competition on the topic, "Feminism is causing more harm than good"at GGCW Gulberg Lahore on 22nd November 2023 at 10.30AM.

The Principal Govt Graduate College for Women, Gulberg, Prof.Dr Night Naheed Zafar was the Chief Guest of this event. The Vice Principal, Prof.Dr Shagufta Gulraiz and Ms Aneela Altaf, Head of English Department were the guests of honour. Professor Lubna Jamal, Dr. Fareeha Javed, Associate Professor of English and Ms Zarqa Bashir Associate Professor of English performed the duties of judges. President English debating Society, Amna Abdullah declared the house Open. Twelve students from different departments of BS Program and intermediate level participated in the competition. Swera, Stage Secretary English Debating Society, from 3rd semester of BS English Language and Literature hosted the event. All the participants presented their arguments either in favor of the topic or against it in very convincing manner. At the end, the Head of the English Department, Ms Aneela Altaf addressed the students and expressed her views on the topic explaining to them that Feminism is not something new. Our religion had given equal rights to women 1400 years ago. But at the same time, we being women shouldn't forget our duties as daughters, mothers and wives. She also congratulated the English Debating Society, Ms Ayesha Mir, Ms Sameera Faisal, Ms Mubarra Javed, Dr Uzma Shaukat, Ms Riffat Rasheed for successfully organizing the event. Syeda Khizra from Bs Bio-Technology Department got First position. Sumayya Basharat from BS Applied Psychology got 2nd position. Fatima Rizwan from intermediate Part 1 stood third, and Amna Waheed from BS English got fourth position. Madam Principal, Dr. Night Zafar distributed the certificates of Merit to all position holders and participants. She also awarded Badges to the student Coordinators, Presidents, Stage Secretaries and members of English Literary Society for categories of Debates, Essay Writing, Dramatics and Poetry Recital. She presented bouquets to respected judges and vice principal, Dr Shagufta and Ms Aneela altaf, HOD English Department. In the end, The Head of the English department presented Flowers to Madam Principal as a token of gratitude. The program ended with the group photo of Faculty Members, winners of the competition and office holders of English Literary Societies with the Principal.

As per instruction of the Director Colleges a Kitchen Gardening Training seminar was organized Botany Association of GGCW, Gulberg Lahore on 23-11-2023 at 10:30 am. In pursuance of the subject requested by Deputy Director Agriculture Seed Form/Green Belt Punjab Lahore a seminar was conducted on Kitchen Gardening Training. 10 teachers and 100 students of BS attended the seminar in conference hall. This program was aimed to create awareness about the Kitchen Gardening & Urban Farming techniques. A group of students asked questions which for answered by Mr. Shahid Ashraf, Assistant Director Agriculture Department Seed Farms/Green Belt Punjab, Lahore. A practical was later on performed by students on how to sow seeds in the Kitchen Garden of the college. It was a really a knowledgeable program. The audience attended it enthusiastically and appreciated the efforts of committee

Today on 17 November, 2023 PTM was arranged by the Intermediate Controller of Examination and her team.
It was started at 8:15 a.m in the old college hall. All the relevant staff members were present and performed their duty vigilantly.
A large number of parents (from 1st and 2nd shift students) attended the meeting. The teachers of the Intermediate classes informed parents about the performance of the students related to their attendance and class tests. Total number of parents who attended the meeting were 252; 192 from 1st shift and 60 from 2nd shift. Meeting ended at 1:00p.m. The worthy Principal appreciated the smooth functioning of the PTM and hard work of staff members.

Today, 16/11/2023, A refreshing and fruity event for awareness & sale of vitamins and minerals was organised by Department of Chemistry. The Students enthusiastically arranged stalls full of seasonal fruits, also displayed their importance and sources on colourful chart papers. Our worthy Principal and Vice Principal graced the occasion. The event innaugurated by cutting the ribbon and raising tagged air balloons in the sky. The BS students along with Hod Chemistry, Mrs. Azra Naheed presented a fresh fruit basket to madam Principal and Vice Principal as a token of love. All respected HODs and staff attended a short awareness presentation given by BS Chemistry, Sem 7th student, Narmeen to students and all faculty members emphasises on the importance of eating fresh fruits which are full of vitamins, minerals and can cure various diseases caused by their deficiency. The stalls of powdered ginger, garlic, dry rose petals, different dry fruits, boiled eggs, duck eggs, sweet potato were also displayed for sale. The students of BS Chemsitry, Sem 1, sem 3, sem 5 and sem 7 along with Prof. Dr. shagufta Gulraiz, HOD Mrs. Azra Naheed, Dr. Tahira Moeen Khan, Mrs. Arifa Shaukat, Dr. Shagufta Nasir, Mrs Sobia Zia, Mrs.Nosheen Sial and Mrs. Sana Fayyaz made the event successful.

A Lecture was organized on "Scientific Writing" for the research students of BS Chemistry. The lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Pervaiz Bhatti, Assistant Professor, Chemistry Department, GCU Lahore. Event was mainly organized by Ms. Azra Naheed and Dr. Shagufta Nasir. Students of Semester-VII, Head of Chemistry Department, Ms. Azra Naheed and faculty members attended the lecture. It was highly informative and students were equipped with necessary and latest proficiency. They were introduced to various soft wares and their utilities. Overall, Students got an opportunity to learn about research from highest Impact factor achiever of last three years from GCU Lahore

Physical Health and fitness

Today Girl Guides did weekly scheduled session of exercises and stretching. Mrs. Sufia Humayun, Dr. Shugufta Nasir and Miss Asma led the session to promote the spirit of physical and mental health and discipline.

On Wednesday 8th November 2023, a delegation of BS Economics, Semester 7" students visited Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). This educational trip was organized by the Economics Department. The initiative was made possible with the support and supervision of our esteemed Principal, Professor Dr. Nighat Zafar, and Vice Principal, Professor Dr. Shagufta Gulraiz.

During the visit, Mr. Sarmad Hussain, the AGM of Operations and Regional Business Development at PSX, provided a comprehensive overview of the market, highlighting the key aspects of the PSX Knowledge Center and the PSX Data Portal. He also shared valuable insights regarding the companies listed with PSX and explained the functioning of brokerage firms in a simplified manner. The interactive question-and- answer session that followed allowed both students and faculty members to gain further insights into the operations and intricacies of the PSX.

In addition, the students and faculty members had the privilege of engaging in on-the- spot meetings with experienced brokers, who generously offered guidance on how to pursue a career as a security broker. In conclusion, this visit proved to be an enlightening and enriching experience, deepening our understanding of the workings of the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The Girl Guides Society conducted Cleanliness Drive under patronage of the principal Dr. Nighat and under supervision of Ms.Sufia Humayun, Miss Asma Hameed and Dr. shugufta Nasir. This activity was part of a weekly plan in order to inculcate the spirit of Cleanliness and Hygiene.

At the end of the activity the Guides learned that keeping our surroundings clean is not only the responsibility of the staff but also students themselves.
