Cairo — the capital city of Egypt . Every year, tourists flock to this glorious city, wanting to see the Great Pyramids of Giza, one of the ancient wonders of the world. Visiting the Pyramids had always been on my bucket list, and I was lucky enough to be able to tick it off.
When it comes to the Great Pyramids of Giza, I can’t stop wondering. How were they built? Why were they made?

Our first night was in Cairo, Our next day in Cairo is definitely the highlight of our trip — the Great Pyramid of Giza. The defining symbol of Egypt is the only remaining Wonders of the Ancient World and is the main reason for our visit to Egypt. I’m 100% sure it goes the same with other tourists.

The mastermind behind this grand project is Pharaoh Khnum Khufu, one of the Egyptian monarchs. The largest Pyramid serves as Khufu’s tomb, and the two medium pyramids were constructed by his son, Khafre (Chephren), and grandson, Menkure (Mykerinos). Khufu’s wives got the three smallest pyramids.

You can pay some of the local kids to take some photos of you at the Great Sphinx of Giza. Trust me, they know all the great angles and unthinkable poses for you at the Sphinx.

As an adventure ju**ie, I love exploring the wild, especially on a camel! Seeing the Pyramids wouldn’t be complete without riding camels, and so I did. They were surprisingly lovely and gentle, each with its own facial expressions. I just couldn’t stop caressing them like my own pets — can I bring them home, please?

Exploring the Giza area from the back of a camel was a totally different experience — just like how people would soak in the emptiness of the desert centuries ago, long before modern cars and technologies are available. They also have the option of horse riding

Originally the pyramids didn’t look this way. They had a smooth casting stone surface that covered the stones we see today – much like we see on the top of Khafre’s pyramid. The top and the base were painted and decorated with hieroglyphs. On the very top, there was a metal tip (probably gold) that glistened under the sun, making the pyramids visible for miles and miles

You will enter the Great Pyramid through a hole on the north face of the pyramid. To get up to the King’s Chamber, you will walk up a ramp through the Grand Gallery until you reach the King’s Chamber. In this dark, hot room is the empty granite sarcophagus
Everyone has different preferences, but I skipped going inside the Great Pyramid

The Great Pyramid will always continue to fascinate and confuse people for we still have so much to learn and there is so much we will never know.

Nanga Parbat
Nanga Parbat also called the Killer Mountain, is an 8,125-meter high mountain that figures as the second highest peak in Pakistan (after K2) and the eighth in the world.

Fairy Meadows trek
Located in Gilgit-Baltistan, north Pakistan, getting to Fairy Meadows doesn’t require any kind of mountain experience as, except for the last 6 or 7km, most of the way can be done by 4×4.

1 – Getting to Raikot bridge
Everyone who goes to FM will have to pass Raikot Bridge, the place on the Karakoram Highway from where you access the mountains towards FM.
Raikot Bridge is located 80km from Gilgit and 400km from Islamabad. The bus that goes from Islamabad to Gilgit can leave you there, no problem.

2 – Fairy Meadows Road
The only legal way to go along Fairy Meadows road is by local Jeep. In summer 2021, they are charging 8,500PKR for a round trip, a cost that can be divided by up to 5 passengers. The journey takes 2 hours.

3 – Getting to Fairy Meadows
The Jeep will drop you some kilometers before your final destination, from where you will need to start ascending (on foot) for 2 to 3 hours through an alpine forest until you get to the FM campsite.

4 – Fairy Meadows
Fairy Meadows is in a green lush plain from where you get striking views of Nanga Parbat, starting from a vast glacier which, gradually, ascends to the foot of that huge ice block.

5 – Beyal Camp
A few kilometers after Fairy Meadows, there is a second campsite called Beyal, where I recommend spending the second night, as it is much quieter and has even better views than the previous camp.

6 – Getting to Nanga Parbat Base Camp
After Beyal, the trail gets tougher, although more rewarding. From an alpine forest, the way becomes an arid but impressive landscape, surrounded by snow and ice blocks.

Now, You are at the Nanga Parbat Base Camp, where the silence is only interrupted by the sound of the occasional avalanches, which can be heard from very far away.
