Honor 9X Lite with 48 MP Camera Appears in a Leaked Promo Poster; Will Ship with Google Mobile Services
February 10, 2020

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is apparently working on the next iteration of its popular Honor 9X duo, dubbed Honor 9X Lite. A leaked promo poster showcases the design of the upcoming addition, alongside camera details that suggest a photography-minded build.

Honor 9X lite has a reflective rear shell with a fingerprint scanner, and a dual-camera mounted on it. The vertically-stacked twin camera setup is housed in a rectangle-shaped bump in addition to an LED flash. The markings on the housing read ‘48 MP AI Camera,’ and the tagline states, ‘XTRAORDINARY PHOTOGRAPHER’ -- again hinting at superior camera performance.

The secondary lens is likely a depth sensor, but additional details are thin on the ground right now. The 9X Lite in the promo poster shows off a glossy green hue, which confirms at least one color edition.

The model has also been spotted on Google Play Certification, which points to three different variants with different Huawei Prices: JSN-L21, JSN-L22, JSN-L23. Since it has shown up Google’s official listings, Honor may have found a workaround for the trade ban. In simpler terms, when 9X Lite is introduced outside China, it will ship with preloaded Google Mobile Services

Huawei Nova 7i all set to be unveiled next month, Launching on 14th of February at an event in Malaysia
January 31, 2020

Huawei is rebranding last year’s Huawei Nova 6 SE, outside of its home market as Huawei Nova 7i. And official Huawei channels have announced that the phone will be unveiled on February 14 at a launch event in Malaysia.

The design remains identical to what we’ve already seen on Huawei Nova 6 SE. You’re looking at a 6.4-inch LCD display that produces an FHD+ resolution and sports a punch-hole on the top-left corner. The cut-out houses a 16-megapixel selfie module.

On the rear panel of the Nova 7i, you get a quad-camera setup, arranged in a squircle bump. The four lenses (that are identical in size) occupy two columns, with the LED flash resting under the camera bump. The 48-megapixel primary shooter is rounded off by an 8-megapixel ultrawide-angle-shooter, and a pair of 2-megapixel depth and macro sensors.

The Huawei 7i itself has a camera-centric build. The primary 48-megapixel shooter has an f/1.8 aperture that allows for better low-light photography and is augmented by AI that offers something called the ‘Slimming effect’ -- which lets you alter your body and face shape digitally.

Save for the optics setup, the rear-facing panel of the upcoming Huawei Nova 7i is bare, since the fingerprint sensor is mounted on the side (that doubles as a power button). Since the new 7i is a rebranded nova 6 SE, we also expect the Huawei prices to be pretty much the same

Under the hood, the phone runs on a Kirin 810 chipset, coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage (expandable up to 256 GB). This hardware draws power from a 4,200 mAh power cell, with support for 40W fast-charging. Huawei claims it can juice up your battery up to 70 percent in under 30 minutes.

Since the Huawei Nova 6 SE runs on an Android-10-based EMUI 10, it stands to reason that the upcoming Huawei Nova 7i will be powered by the same EMUI 10, but we expect it to lop off support for Google Services.

Infinix S5 Pro Launch Date Confirmed; A Budget Phone With a Pop-up Selfie Camera
January 31, 2020

Launched back in October, Infinix’s popular S5-lineup has periodically been getting iterations over the months. And as a report by 91Mobiles reveals, this next addition, dubbed Infinix S5 Pro will be making a debut on February 18.

As for the design details, an early leaked image confirmed that the Pro variant of the Infinix S5 will feature a notch-free display with the selfie camera mounted on a motorized pop-up mechanism.

The pop-up camera of S5 Pro is placed on the top-right corner. While the pop-up camera system might not be typical of entry-level smartphones, but as per the source, the display will be an LCD panel that produces an HD+ resolution -- pointing to the budget-centric design of the upcoming S5 Pro.

You can also spot a USB port, a speaker grille, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The volume rockers and the power button are mounted on the right side of the spine, while the fingerprint reader will be mounted on the rear shell. The back panel itself will be offered in Violet and Green hues.

The report further details that the Infinix S5 Pro will be powered by a 4,000 mAh cell augmented with AI battery management. At the heart of the device, you get a yet-to-be-confirmed MediaTek SoC.

The phone will roughly cost $140, making the upcoming Infinix S5 Pro the cheapest smartphone with a pop-up selfie module. It makes sense too since the Infinix S5 was the most affordable smartphone with a punch-hole camera.

Huawei P40 Pro Renders Leaked;

Quad-camera Setup with 10X Optical Zoom
January 18, 2020

Now that we’re nearing its launch date, another set of renders for Huawei’s first flagship for the year – Huawei P40, has been spotted. Earlier leaks have already given us a sneak peek at the design and Huawei Prices for this upcoming lineup, but we’ve now got early mockups of the ‘Pro’ P40 variant. The renders showcase a quad-camera setup and a curved display.

Courtesy of Android Headlines, Huawei P40 Pro images show off a design language almost identical to that of P40, save for a few obvious elements. You’re looking at a domino-shaped camera bump that juts out quite noticeably and houses three camera lenses in one column, and one ToF sensor (possibly) in another.

A squircle camera sits on the bottom left corner, which appears to be a periscope lens. Speculation has it that this lens supports up to 10X optical zoom, but the resolution of the render is too poor to make out the details printed on the lens.

But if the Huawei P40 Pro render mentioned above is anything to go by, the primary camera might feature a 20 mm focal length.

Aside from these lenses, you’re also looking at either a macro sensor or a 3D ToF cam. There’s no confirmation, but at any rate, this module is nestled underneath the LED flash. If the rectangle-ish camera bump looks familiar, that’s because it is. We’ve already seen this domino-style camera bump on Samsung’s yet-to-be-released S20 and Google’s Pixel 4 series.

On the front, you get a pill-style cutout, containing a twin-selfie-camera – one of them a standard snapper, and the other one most likely an ultrawide-angle module. The display itself seems to melt into the edges, but the curvature isn’t as readily apparent.

Oppo F15

Launched with 6.4 inches AMOLED Display and Quad Rear Cameras, India gets it first
January 17, 2020

Oppo has finally unveiled the next addition to its F-series – the Oppo F15. Same as its predecessors, this latest arrival is another camera-centric build, offered at a mid-tier price. The model is a rebranded Oppo A91, which Oppo introduced in its home market last month.

Oppo F15 design is identical to last month’s A91, including the gradient look on the back. You’re looking at the same 6.4-inch AMOLED display, that touts a waterdrop notch and produces an FHD+ resolution with a 90.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. It also houses a fingerprint reader under it and a 16-megapixel selfie snapper inside the notch. Oppo claims that its in-display fingerprint sensor can unlock your device in under 0.32 seconds.

Aligned vertically, the four-lens camera setup on the F15 back brings a 48-megapixel primary sensor. An 8-megapixel ultrawide angle shooter, a 2-megapixel monochrome lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor round off the primary sensor and are AI-augmented. The setup is designed with a focus on low-light photography affordable Oppo price, and it uses pixel-binning to produce sharper, more detailed images.

A 4,000 mAh battery with support for 20W VOOC 3.0 Flash Charge technology powers Oppo F15 hardware. And it can charge your device up to half its capacity in just 30 minutes. You get two hours of talk time with just 5 minutes of charging! The internals themselves are reasonably robust, so you can expect buttery smooth performance (primarily when gaming, thanks to Game Boost 2.0).

At F15’s heart sits a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset. But unlike its forerunners, F15 debuts with only one memory variant: 8 GB of RAM + 128 GB of native storage. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t run on ColorOS 7 out of the box, so you’ll have to make do Android-Pie-based ColorOS 6.1 until an update is rolled out.

Samsung Galaxy S20

Will be company’s Next Flagship smartphone, Forget Samsung Galaxy S11
December 31, 2019

This year’s Samsung Galaxy S10 debuted with a more affordable variant carrying an ‘e’ moniker, but if a recent report to be believed, Samsung is dropping the ‘e’ with its upcoming S-series flagship. The report claims that Samsung is making a jump from Samsung S10 to Galaxy S20 in its naming scheme. So the flagship we’ve been waiting for isn’t dubbed Samsung Galaxy S11, but Samsung Galaxy S20 (perhaps in relevance to the year it’s being released in).

It’s more than just a leap in numbers because Samsung might be planning on ditching the entire naming scheme. Instead of a Galaxy S20e, we get a standard Galaxy S20, a more premium Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra – the high-end member of the trio.

A case manufacturer, Shcnailcase, leaked these branding details, alongside expected screen sizes. A less comprehensive tweet by the popular leakster, , also confirms the upcoming flagship to be Samsung Galaxy S20.

But why this dramatic change? While there is no clear answer, it might lie in S20’s 5G connectivity. The Galaxy S10 lineup had four different variants (five if you count the yet-to-launched Galaxy S10 Lite), with the most premium model being the Galaxy S10 5G. But since the Galaxy S11/Galaxy S20 will only arrive with three variants, all 5G-enabled, Samsung doesn’t need to include a fourth 5G-ready S20 5G. Apple did something similar this year with its iPhone branding. It ditched the iPhone XR in favor of the iPhone 11 – a budget offering. And named the remaining two models, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone Pro Max – the true flagships.

Oppo F15

Coming Soon; Company's Next Selfie Expert Teased in an Official Promotional Video
December 31, 2019

Touting the tagline “Selfie Expert,” the next iteration to Oppo’s F-series has just been officially teased. Oppo has published a promo video featuring the upcoming Oppo F15, which will be succeeding this year’s Oppo F11. The promo doesn’t give away much, but we do get a peek at the design. Speculation suggests that this selfie-oriented offering is scheduled for release in January 2020, but we’ve got a few details ahead of the release.

The phone carries over the notch from its predecessor but features a quad-camera setup on the back – a notable upgrade from the twin-camera design on Oppo F11. Now the details regarding the release itself are scarce, but from the looks of it, Oppo F15 appears to be a rebranded Oppo A91 – the one which was launched in China last week.

If Oppo F15 borrows more than just the design language from Oppo A91, we’re looking at a 6.4-inch AMOLED display that produces an FHD+ resolution and a screen-to-body ratio of 90.7%.

The screen also embeds an in-display fingerprint reader. The selling point for the F-series have always been its camera-minded specs, and F15 might rock a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. The quad-camera should feature a 48-megapixel primary lens, rounded off by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a pair of 2-megapixel macro and portrait modules.

MediaTek chipsets drive the entire Oppo F-series, and the F15 shouldn’t be an exception. With a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of onboard storage, the internals are looking reasonably robust. They draw power from a 4,000 mAh battery with support for VOOC 3.0 fast-charging. Oppo claims that it can charge your device up to half its capacity in only 30 minutes

Huawei P40 Pro

Renders Spotted; May Arrive Early with a Total of Seven Cameras
December 30, 2019

Huawei is still a few months away from officially launching the Huawei P40 lineup, and so far, it’s shaping up to be an exciting flagship iteration. We’ve already got a look at the early CAD renders for the P40 duo, and the live images of its case have also cropped up, hinting at the design language of Huawei’s next big reveal. Admittedly, these renders lacked details and failed to showcase the highlight features of the purported P40. But thanks to another leaked round of mockups, we now get a clearer peek at Huawei P40 Pro.

The renders pictured below have been published courtesy of 9TechEleven. As mobile zone noted in an earlier post, Huawei has already shaved the side-bezels nearly off with this year’s P30 Pro with its rounded edges.

The P40 Pro will carry over that curved edge-to-edge display. But this time around, Huawei is trimming off the chin and the forehead too, in favor of a display that curves around all four corners. This quad-edge front panel affords the phone more screen real-estate and a higher screen-to-body ratio.

You can also spot a pill-style punch-hole cutout housing a twin camera setup – one of which is your average selfie shooter, and the second one, an ultrawide-angle sensor. Speculation has it that the display measures up to 6.7 inches, but at the same time P40 will retain its predecessor’s dimensions.

On the back of the P40 Pro, you’re looking at a Penta-camera package, nestled inside a domino-shaped bump. The modules are arranged in an L-shaped design, alongside an LED flash. Additional camera details are thin on the ground, but earlier leaks point to a periscope shooter that allows for 10X optical zoom, alongside a ToF sensor. The remaining three lenses are a primary shooter, an ultrawide angle sensor, and finally a macro sensor

Vivo APEX 2020

Hands-on Live Images Published Online, Portray A Truly Bezel-less Design
December 28, 2019

Vivo has been pushing for a truly bezel-free design for a while now. First, with their ‘waterfall’ displays that lopped off physical buttons to maximize screen real-estate, but they were mostly hit-and-miss. But now, Vivo seems to be adopting a different approach with its APEX 2020, as evident by a few live images spotted online.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy flagships, The upcoming flagship AKA the Vivo Apex 2020 promises a waterfall-display type curved and bezel-free screen with a higher-than-typical screen-to-body ratio.

Vivo V19 and Vivo V19 Pro to be Released Early Next Year

The front-selfie-camera on the new Vivo mobile is rumored to be mounted on a motorized pop-up module, but if innovation is the selling point here, we might be looking at a more novel ‘under-the-display’ selfie camera.

Vivo has trimmed the bezels as far as they could without axing the power and volume buttons. The display curves towards the edges like you see in a water-fall display, so there are virtually no side bezels.

These early Vivo Apex 2020 hands-on images don’t reveal the design on the back panel or the camera details, so additional specification details are thin on the ground.

The APEX 2020 might be making a debut at MWC 2020 since it’s shaping up to be the mystery device many rumors point to (others still think that Vivo has a foldable phone in the works, but as of yet there haven’t been any concrete details). The Chinese smartphone maker is officially going to be part of the MWC exhibit for the first time, so it’ll make sense to introduce APEX 2020 at the event.

Oppo A8

Goes Official with Triple Rear Camera, 4,230mAh battery and Color OS 6.0
December 21, 2019

The next generation of Oppo’s mid-range and budget-friendly A-series is finally here. Meet the Oppo A8 – the second A-series member to have gone official after Oppo A91. You get a significant spec bump, but for an affordable price tag. The phone has already made a debut in China, and we expect other Asian markets to follow soon. Here’s everything you need to know.

We’ll kick things off with the design. Oppo A8 rocks a polycarbonate rear-shell – not a design we’ve seen on most mid-range smartphones this year, but it makes sense to go with plastic to keep the price tag low. You get a notched display that produces an HD+ resolution and offers a respectable 89% screen-to-body ratio.

The glossy plastic back sports a capacitive fingerprint reader, alongside a triple camera setup in a vertical arrangement. And you can pick between two eye-catching hues: Azure and Secret night black.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find an Oppo smartphone that isn’t camera-oriented, and Oppo A8 is no different. The three rear cameras are augmented with multifunctional AI, which lets you capture finer details and ‘hardware-level’ blur in the portrait mode. If you want numbers, you’re looking at a 12-megapixel primary shooter, rounded off by a pair of 2-megapixel depth and portrait lenses.

The native storage is an uncharacteristic 128 GB that can be expanded up to 256 GB thanks to a dedicated microSD card slot. An unidentified chipset with an octa-core processor sits at the heart of the A8, paired with 4 GB of RAM. Finally, a 4,230 mAh battery backs this hardware, but it doesn’t offer support for fast charging.

Specs for Xiaomi Redmi 9 Leaked while Redmi 8 Got a Price Cut in Pakistan
December 19, 2019

Reportedly, Xiaomi is working on the successor to its popular budget line-up – the Redmi 8 series, and it might be unveiled in the first quarter of 2020. The next generation of the Redmi series, dubbed Redmi 9, is being rumored to run on a yet-to-be-introduced MediaTek Helio G70 chip. 91Mobiles also notes a few other key features, in addition to the SoC details. The publication reports that the Redmi 9 series will make an appearance in China first, followed by a launch in Indian markets.

Redmi 9
From the looks of it, Xiaomi intends to carry over the design language from Redmi 9’s predecessor. That means you get the same notched design, alongside its twin-camera setup and the rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader. It may come as a surprise to enthusiasts who believe that 2020 will sound the death knell for the ‘notch’. But love-it-or-hate-it, it seems that the notch is here to stay.

The design aside, 91Mobile reveals that the Redmi 9 will feature a bigger 6.6-inch HD+ display and of course, a more powerful Helio G70 chipset. Other iterative upgrades include a 4 GB RAM (as opposed to the 3 GB of memory on the standard Redmi 8), paired with the same 64 GB of onboard storage. We expect it to be powered by an Android-10-based MIUI 11.

Redmi 8
In related news, released back in October this year, the Redmi 8 is getting a price slash. The 4 GB + 64 GB variant, that was initially retailing for 24,000 PKR, will now be available for 22,000 PKR, which makes for a 2,0000 PKR discount.

The vanilla variant of Redmi 8 runs on a modest Snapdragon 439 chipset, that draws power from a 5,000 mAh cell. You also get support for 18W fast charging – not something typical of entry-level devices, we might add. The twin-camera system features a 12-megapixel primary shooter and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Vivo X30

Official Renders are Out; Second 5G-enabled Smartphone from Vivo Brings Dual-Mode 5G in Tow
December 14, 2019

This past year, we’ve seen a lot of fresh camera designs on most flagship, mid-range, and even entry-level devices to accommodate the ever-increasing lens count. Manufacturers have come up with some imaginative (think, circular, L-shaped, and diamond shapes) and some not-so-imaginative solutions, but so far, the vertical-camera design has been the most popular one. Vivo has been using this design alongside the diamond-style optics this year. With its latest iteration –Vivo X30, Vivo has once again adopted the popular-but-bland vertical setup. Here's the official renders.

We got a look at the first live images of the Vivo X30 yesterday. The images were spotted on Weibo, revealing a punch-hole cutout and a triple-camera system aligned vertically on the back. We’ve seen more and more OEMs steadily making the shift from notched designs to either punch-hole or pop-up modules to tuck away the front-facing selfie camera.

Some are even experimenting with the possibility of under-the-screen selfie cameras, but in the meantime, many flagships (and even sub-flagships) are lopping off notches in favor of punch-holes. Pictured below, the Vivo X30 isn’t an exception.

Not only the official renderings confirm yesterday’s leaked live images, but they also reveal more color variants the X30 will be debuting with. You can pick from Mithril, Flint, and Feiyun hues, which are essentially just silver, grey, and orange gradients at some whopping Vivo Prices.

The primary of the three lenses is reported to be a 64-megapixel shooter, that will be rounded off by a periscope lens, and an ultra-wide-angle sensor. A telephoto sensor flanks this trio, which produces up to 60X zooming, in combination with the periscope shooter.

Leaked Huawei P40 Lite

with a punch hole display looks to be just a rebranded nova 6 SE
December 12, 2019

As WhatMobile reported earlier, Huawei has its first flagship for the year 2020 in the works, and it is expected to introduce it in the first quarter of the next year. The flagship offering in question, dubbed Huawei P40, has been tipped to debut with a Pro variant, but as a leak by a Twitter user promises, a ‘Lite’ version of the Huawei P40 will also accompany this launch. The tweet further details that this ‘Lite’ P40 will be a rebranded Huawei Nova 6 SE.

Huawei often rebrands its offerings outside its domestic market, so it won’t come as a surprise if the Huawei P40 Lite is a Nova 6 SE, in a different skin. The latter device made a debut last week, with its iPhone-inspired camera setup and punch-hole design. Twitter account – the source where the leak comes from, also posted a render of the alleged P40 Lite, which is essentially just a black Huawei Nova 6 SE.

If the leak is legitimate, we are hoping that the company introduces the P40 Lite with more color options and a lesser Huawei Price. Nova 6 SE (and its global variant P40 Lite as well) brings a 6.4-inch LCD with trimmed bezels, that produces an FHD+ resolution and touts a punch-hole design.

The identical-sized lenses on the P40 Lite back feature a 48-megapixel unit, an 8-megapixel ultrawide-angle sensor, and a set of two 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors. The quad-camera seems to draw inspiration from this year’s iPhone 11 but packs four modules, instead of three. The capacitive fingerprint reader has migrated from the back to the side.

Realme X50 5G Leaked in Early Renders, Twin-camera on the front, Quad on the Back
December 11, 2019

Realme has its 5G-enabled handset – the Realme X50 5G in the works, and as per the official announcement, it’ll soon be unveiled in China. But prior to this launch, early renders of the X50 5G have been leaked online, which give us a sneak peek into the design of Realme’s first 5G offering. The leak also shows off a handful of hardware specifications.

First things first, design. The X50 display touts a pill-style cutout, housing a twin-selfie-camera setup, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The screen seems to be melting into the minimal bezels. As it has been typical of almost every major flagship release this year, the X50 appears to be another ‘glass slab.’ You’re looking at those familiar gradient hues on the back panel, alongside an equally played-out vertical camera setup.

The rear camera setup on Realme X50 features four lenses, the primary of which will be a 108-megapixel sensor, claims the source of the leak. Further, this 108-megapixel camera will be rounded off by a periscope lens (the kind we’ve seen on Oppo’s Reno lineup). While additional details about the optics package remain under the wraps, it’s safe to assume that the X50 5G will be Realme’s second flagship after Realme X2 Pro.

The source further detailed that a Snapdragon 765G will power the Realme X50 5G, alongside a beefy 12 GB + 128 GB memory configuration. Realme X50 5G is likely to debut with a ‘Lite’ variant, dubbed, Realme X50 Youth Edition, that will offer a more modest combination of RAM and storage at affordable realme prices. On the software side of things, these internals will run on Oppo’s Color OS 7-themed Android 10.
