A ulcer is a localized, open sore or erosion on the surface of the cornea, which is the transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris and pupil. This condition can result from infections, injuries, or underlying diseases.
If you any of the following symptoms or signs, seek as quickly as possible.

• Tearing
• Pus or discharge
• Blurred vision
• Sensitivity to light
• Swelling of the eyelids
• White spot on the cornea

Certain give you a risk for developing a corneal ulcer. These include:
• Prior corneal abrasion or eye injury
• Failure to wear eye protection
• Dry eyes (chronic or seasonal)
• Misusing contact lenses
• Failure to treat conjunctivitis

• Steroid eye drop use
• Corneal injury due to particulates or burns
