The event covered key topics ranging from the environmental impacts of e-waste, such as toxin release and landfill issues, to current disposal practices like incineration and recycling. Regulatory frameworks at various levels were also discussed to provide context for existing laws and guidelines. A pivotal part of the seminar was dedicated to sustainable solutions, including eco-design, repair, and refurbishing initiatives. Case studies highlighted successful programs and offered attendees actionable insights. The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, allowing for further engagement on this critical topic.

Biodiversity sustains the health of our planet, ensuring a functional ecosystem and resilience against change.

Biodiversity is not just about the number of species on our planet. It is also about the interactions between those species and the ecosystems they inhabit. These interactions are what make our planet so unique and beautiful.

Unfortunately, our planet is losing biodiversity at an alarming rate. Habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and overexploitation of natural resources are just a few of the threats that are driving species to extinction.

But it's not too late to act. We can all do our part to protect biodiversity by making small changes in our daily lives. S.A.F.E. society was honoured to arrange a seminar on this World Biodiversity Day 2023, shedding light on SDG 14 (life below water) and SDG 15 (life on land).
Our Guest Speakers: Dr.Tabasam Jamal, Senior Most Professor, Geography Department, Punjab University
Dr.Rab Nawaz, HOD Environmental Sciences, University of Lahore
Dr.Qamar Uz Zaman, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences, University of Lahore

Your presence spoke volumes about your commitment to the cause of preserving and celebrating our planet’s diversity and motivating these young minds to do the same.

This year's theme is "We're part of the solution ", which emphasizes the need for collective action to protect and conserve biodiversity. As we all know, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. SDG 15 specifically focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, and halting and reversing land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Biodiversity is essential for human survival, and it is our responsibility to protect and conserve it. The flora and fauna that surround us play a vital role in our lives, from providing food, medicine, and shelter to maintaining the balance of our ecosystem.

On this World Biodiversity Day, let us all pledge to do our part in protecting and conserving biodiversity. Let us work together to create a sustainable future for ourselves and for the generations to come.

Earth's rotation day is observed on January 8th, as it commemorates the rotation of earth every 24 hours which is the most important for the existence of life on planet. It also marks the anniversary of French physicist Leon Foucault's 1851 proof that the Earth revolves on its axis.
The rotation of earth around the sun on its own axis is equally important as one rotation around the sun results into a whole year, similarly the rotation of earth on its own axis results into days and night. It is to honor the achievements of the environmental movements and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations.

Plastic pollution has become an immensive growing problem because of its impacts. A report by UN states that around 12 billion metric tons of plastic waste would be generated by 2050. If we consider its impact on human health, we can map the extreme damage caused by microplastics by knowing that these may cause changes and inflammation to the DNA. Microplastics have caused numerous chemical pollution and killed both; marine aswell as terrestrial life.

To minimise the effects of microplastics a few strategies have been developed globally. In order to highlight and raise awareness about the impact of these microplastics, S.A.F.E society was honoured by arranging a seminar on "Governance approach for the mitigation of microplastic pollution". The main motive of this event was to promote the role of SDG no 13( climate action), no 14( life below water) and 15( life on Land) in the mitigation of microplastic pollution.
Our guest speakers Mr. Yaseen Hatif (LL.M. London, Adv supreme Court and visiting lecturer at Punjab University Lahore) provided legal framework for the mitigation of microplastic pollution and Dr. Khawar Sultan ( Geoscientist and Assistant professor Environmental science) provided a broad idea of microplastic pollution and new researches regarding microplastics.
