Topic 7 : Solar Module MBB(Multi - Busbar) Technology – What is it?
You may often find the MBB abbreviation indicated on a Solar Panel Datasheet. So, why this technology is often important to be present.
Multi-busbar, or "Multi-wire," is the natural next evolution of cell-stringing technology, which facilitates a constant increase in a PV module's peak power, this technology has progressed from the initial 2BB to the current 12BB. The MBB technology provides considerable benefits on several levels.
1) What is Solar Cell Busbar?
Silicon solar cells are metalized with thin rectangular-shape strips printed on the front and back sides of a solar cell. These metallic contacts are called busbars and their purpose is to conduct the direct current generated by the solar photovoltaic cell. Frequently, solar cell busbars are constructed from copper, coated with silver. The fingers collect the generated current and deliver it to the busbars.
2) Development Trends
Previously, the most popular solar cell design consisted of two or three full-line busbars printed on the cell. However, as work on improving existing solar cell technologies becomes more desirable, a growing tendency in the industry is to rethink cell design and production in order to improve solar panel efficiency and reliability. The 9/12 Bus Bar photovoltaic panel technology is recently created to boost the overall system's efficiency.
3) What is the benefit of a Multi Busbar Technology?
Multi busbar cells, noticeably 5 busbar (5BB) cells and above, are currently one of the major trends in solar cell and module design. The increased number of busbars reduces the internal resistance losses due to the lesser distance between the busbars as shown in the figure below.
The multi-busbars (MBB) approach aims to reduce resistive losses by reducing the amount of current that flows in both the fingers and the busbars. As more busbars are printed on a wafer, the space between them shortens, shortening the length that current flows in the fingers which is a large source of series resistance losses. As the resistive power loss Ploss scales with I2R, this means that if the current is reduced by half, the resistive losses are reduced by a factor of four.

The first step is math. Electricity units are charged at different rates throughout the year. The average cost of a unit of electricity can be calculated by dividing the total electric bill for a 12 months by the number of units consumed - data available on most domestic bills.
In the domestic example, a picture of which is attached with the post, 6,261 units were consumed at an average cost of Rs 24.87.
Let us compare this with solar energy. A 5kW system costs around Rs 850K and produces around 6500 units a year for around 25 years. This means the system provides 162,500 units at the cost of 850K for 25 years, which means a cost of Rs 5.23 per unit.
Once you’ve calculated the savings that solar energy will give you, it is time to locate solar service providers in your areas. As with anything, Google is your best friend in the absence of testimonials from friends and family.
It is also important to familiarize yourself with some of the basic technicalities of how solar energy works. Although the engineering side of it can seem daunting, it is relatively simple if you break it down to the most fundamental parts that go into installing a solar system.
