The thought of what would have happened if the liquidators hadn't acted quickly enough in the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster is nothing short of a nightmare. The explosion that occurred on that fateful day released an unprecedented amount of radioactive material into the environment, threatening the very fabric of life itself.

If the liquidators had not been able to contain the damage, the resulting catastrophe would have been catastrophic beyond comprehension. The radioactive material could have spread like a deadly cloud over the entire continent, contaminating every living thing in its path. People would have been forced to evacuate their homes, their farms, and their businesses, leaving behind everything they had ever known.

The long-term effects on human health and the environment would have been catastrophic, with generations of people suffering from radiation-related illnesses and genetic mutations. The very fabric of life as we know it would have been irreparably altered, and the world would never be the same again.

The Chornobyl disaster, which occurred on April 26, 1986, resulted in a catastrophic release of radioactive materials into the atmosphere, making it the worst nuclear accident in history. Here are some interesting facts about the radiation levels after the Chornobyl disaster:

1. Radiation levels at the Chornobyl plant were so high that workers who were exposed to the radiation for even a few minutes experienced radiation sickness and had to be hospitalized.

2. The immediate aftermath of the disaster resulted in a spike in radiation levels across the region, with levels reaching up to 300 times the normal background radiation levels.

3. The radiation was so intense that it caused the graphite core of the reactor to ignite, creating a fire that burned for 10 days.

4. The radioactive fallout from the disaster spread across Europe, contaminating large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. This resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, and the creation of the Exclusion Zone, a 30-kilometer radius around the reactor that is still uninhabitable to this day.

5. The effects of the disaster are still being felt today, with high levels of radiation found in the soil, water, and wildlife in the Exclusion Zone. However, despite the risks, there are still some people living in the Exclusion Zone, known as the "self-settlers," who have chosen to return to their homes and live in the contaminated area.

6. The Chornobyl disaster led to significant changes in the nuclear power industry, including improvements in safety standards, the development of new nuclear technologies, and increased international cooperation to prevent future accidents.

The liquidators of Pripyat were the brave men and women who risked their lives to contain the Chornobyl disaster in 1986. The term "liquidator" was used to describe the workers who were tasked with cleaning up the radioactive debris and materials left in the aftermath of the explosion. The liquidators were not only exposed to dangerous levels of radiation but also had to work under extreme physical conditions. Despite the risks, these individuals selflessly stepped up to help prevent further catastrophe and protect the lives of millions.

The liquidators' dedication and heroism make them the "Voices of the Unheard." Their tireless efforts to contain the disaster and protect others often went unnoticed or unappreciated, and many suffered from health problems related to radiation exposure. The liquidators' story is a testament to the human spirit and the sacrifices people are willing to make for the greater good. The next ItSELF music video is a tribute to the liquidators, their bravery, and their impact on history. It will give voice to the unheard and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices these individuals made to protect others.

In this next track to be released on the 26th of this month, we talk about the horrific disaster that took the lives of many people and affected countless others in Chornobyl. The main factor that led to this disaster was pride, which can be defined as overconfidence in one's abilities or accomplishments. In the case of Chornobyl, the pride of those in charge led to a series of fateful decisions that ultimately resulted in the meltdown of the nuclear reactor.

One of the key factors that led to the disaster was the decision to continue operating the reactor despite safety concerns. Those in charge were proud of their achievement and didn't want to believe that anything could go wrong. This arrogance ultimately cost many people their lives. Furthermore, The Soviet Union was a proud nation and its people were very proud of their accomplishments. They didn't want to admit that anything could go wrong and that their nation wasn't perfect. This also led to a lot of secrecy surrounding the accident, which made it much worse than it needed to be. This deadly combination of arrogance and complacency led to a series of poor decisions that had catastrophic consequences. The lessons learned from Chornobyl should serve as a warning against letting pride get in the way of making sound decisions.

Pride however is much more complex than the one that just shows arrogance and sows pain but there’s also the one that shows dignity and satisfaction in yourself and others. Voices of the Unheard are the silenced voices of the liquidators - people who are hailed as heroes, but many of them are left with physical and mental scars that continue to this day.

"We all thought we were doing something great. We were cleaning up other people's messes and we thought we were invincible. But now I know that we paid a terrible price for our pride. It's hard to talk about what we went through. For a long time, we kept it all inside, thinking that if we talked about it, people would think we were crazy. But the truth is, we're the ones who are still sane. We saw things that no one should have to see.
We were told that we were doing something important, that we were saving lives. And in a way, I guess we were. But it came at a great cost. Many of us didn't make it out alive, and those of us who did are never going to be the same. It's hard to take pride in what we did when so many people died and so many more were affected by the radiation. But I guess in some ways, we have to be proud of ourselves for what we did." - Nikolai, liquidator
