We’re happy to announce that Three Moons Records will release Leaving a Dream on tape in second half of December 2023.

"Many years ago I read an article which stated that whales never sing the same song twice. I really loved the concept of not playing the same, to let the music constantly evolve and to go in new directions.

Not repeating ourselves was one of the main goals of this band since the very beginning. Even when we play songs live they differ quite a lot when compared to their studio versions. Another additional thing regarding the band's name: whales are huge: and I want this band to sound huge, tremendous and mighty. You can especially hear this on “Leaving a Dream” and “Radiance of a Thousand Suns” albums. They have this overwhelming feeling."

Long awaited third full-length, released on double CD by Zoharum - new experimental art earlier this year, will be finally available on cassette tapes as last 2023 Three Moons Records release. Pod płytą widnieje taki napis " we are free", który myślę idealnie definiuje to, co próbowano na tych dwóch krążkach zmieścić. Pisze "próbowano" gdyż pomimo tego że materiał w pełni dojrzałym i świadomym jest , to charakter jego taki że objętościowo to ten materiał aż wylewa się poza te dwa krążki. Taki jego charakter, taka jego natura. Ogrom z jakim mamy do czynienia słuchając tego albumu wyłazi poza jego ramy- pomimo tego że doskonale wiemy że album wciśnięto na dwa CD trwające razem ponad dwie godziny. I nie chodzi mi właśnie o ten czas tylko samą naturę tego wydawnictwa. Leaving a dream to muzyczny bezkres, dźwiękowa otchłań z którą stajemy oko w oko i która już nas onieśmiela i powala na kolana razem z pierwszymi dźwiękami za pomocą których rozpoczyna się album. A zerkając na okładkę wizualnie potrafimy sobie to doznanie spotęgować.. album to dla potwierdzenie kapitalnego wyczucia muzycznego osób które stoją za tym zespołem. Wiem że główną siłą sprawczą jest Neithan niemniej całość instrumentów i muzyków je dzierżących stworzyło dzieło nadmiar wyjątkowe i wszechstronne. To kapitalne połączenie wielu stylów muzycznych wykutych w jednej dźwiękowej bryle, która wraz z odsłuchem puchnie, rośnie , przeistacza się w przerażająco wielki monument który nas po prostu zatyka. Już wcześniej zespół potrafił pokazać na co go stać ale na tym albumie , połączenie metalu z klubowym jazzem, ambientem, muzyka etniczna które przeplatają się z transowymi miniaturami, jakimś rytualnym posmakiem przekroczyło wszelkie granice które mogą naginać a nawet łamać tylko najwięksi. I takim zespołem w swej kategorii jest właśnie WHALESONG . Dodatkowo muszę zaznaczyć że wciągnięcie w szeregi zespołu Elisy to kapitalny wybór! Piękno jakie potrafi ta dziewczyna roztoczyć za pomocą strun głosowych to po prostu majstersztyk sztuki! Rzecz jasna gościnne udziały na stałe chyba wpisały się w każde duże nagranie zespołu więc i tu gości nie zabrakło i to tych z największych... Długo mi zeszło na próbie objęcia tego albumu a i tak czuję że jeszcze go nie zdobyłem..Niemniej wiem że to album genialny. Polecam!

WHALESONG – Leaving A Dream (Album – Zoharum - new experimental art)

Genre/Influences: Industrial, Apocalyptic-Rock, Experimental.

Format: Digital, 2CD.

Background/Info: Polish sonic project Whalesong has been active since 2009. The band is driven by Michal Kielbasa (vocals, guitars, lap steel guitar, bass, hammered dulcimer, tubular bells, vibes, mellotron, keys, lyra8, theremin, gong, percussion, zither, sitar, violin), Grzegorz Zawadzki (drums, percussion), Piotr Dziemski (guitars) and Elise Aranguren (vocals). This new opus has been accomplished by an impressive number of guest artists.

Content: The main disc stands for the ‘true’ face of Whalesong; a heavy, overwhelming, production moving from a Dark-Ambient opening cut to apocalyptic, Industrial-Rock music. Guitar and drums are often reminding me of early Swans. The few cuts featuring female vocals reveal a softer and even ‘catchy’ Industrial side. The second disc holds on similar influences as the main disc although it’s more Experimental and even touches ground with a kind of Free-Jazz style.

+ + + : I especially salute the multi-instrumentalism of this project and its core member Michal Kielbasa. Together with the multiple guest musicians it creates an impressive sonic canvas. I prefer the darker passages and especially the way guitar and drums create an uplifting effect. “Leaving A Dream” is a great track to experience -which also sounds like ‘Film-Noir’-music but I also recommend the more ‘catchy’ sounding “Hope”. From the second disc I enjoyed “From The Ashes” which also has this elevating effect.

- - - : Some parts are quite cacophonous and sound like improvised. I’m less into this complexity and Experimentalism.

Conclusion: This work reminds me to early Industrial experiments from the 80s.

Best songs: “Leaving A Dream”, “Hope”, “From The Ashes”.
