Estreia hoje, na RTP3 às 17:30, mais um episódio do UAU - Ciência sem Limites. Podem ver o que fazemos no nosso grupo de investigação, na área da interação por linguagem natural com a televisão. Visita do Professor Jorge Ferraz de Abreu ao laboratório de User eXperience e Archeo&Arte3D DigiLab da Sapienza, Universidade de Roma.

Ventata di novità per il laboratorio: Jorge Trinidad Ferraz de Abreu, professore associato dell’Università di Aveiro, Portogallo e co-fondatore del laboratorio Social iTV , è venuto in visita nei laboratori User eXperience e Archeo&Arte3D DigiLab Sapienza.
🤝L'incontro ha portato ad un vivace scambio di punti di vista, progettuali e teorici, ponendo le basi per future collaborazioni nell’ambito dell’iTV e della Virtual Reality (VR).

There is a future for TV
Speaker: Guido Lemos, Federal University of Paraíba – UFPB, Brazil

Guido Lemos is full Professor in the Department of Computer Systems at the Informatic Center at the Federal University of Paraíba (DI-CI-UFPB) holds a Ph.D. in Informatics from the Pontif**al Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RIO). Coordinates LAVID (Center for Research and Extension in Digital Video Applications), where he researches the following topics: digital television, digital cinema, distributed multimedia applications, video distribution networks, distributed artistic performances, accessibility, telehealth, and blockchain applications. Worked on developing the Ginga middleware, published as ITU-T and ITU-R Recommendations, and adopted as a standard in the Brazilian Digital Television System and in several countries in Latin America, whose implementation runs on about 100 million TV devices. He drove the expansion of UFPB, foreseeing the increase from 20 to 45 thousand in undergraduate and graduate students. He also serves as a member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Digital Television System Forum and a guest of Ancine’s Technical Accessibility Chamber.

Abstract

With recent changes in the way media is distributed, delivered today anywhere, anytime, on any device; is there still room for television systems with live content distribution from one to millions? What was the value of a mass communication system like TV in the past? Will this value be preserved in the future with communication systems promising to offer 10 Gbps transmission rate, density of 1 million devices per Km2, 1 mS delays with support for differentiated service and broadcast? How is the television business reacting to survive? These and other questions will be the subject of this talk.

IMX is the leading international conference for presentation and discussion of research into interactive media experiences. The conference brings together international researchers and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, ranging from human-computer interaction, multimedia engineering and design to media studies, media psychology and sociology.

This conference is hosted by the Social iTV, a DigiMedia's Research Group.
And will be held at the University of Aveiro Campus from 22 to 24 june.
And has an Organizing Committee which includes several Digimedia Researchers - Jorge Ferraz de Abreu and Pedro Almeida as Local Chairs, but also Telmo Silva, Margarida Almeida, Alcina Prata, Rita Oliveira, Pedro Beça and Rita Santos

The ACM International Conference on Interactive Media Experiences (IMX2022 - https://imx.acm.org/2022/) will be held in Aveiro, being co-organized by the Federal Fluminense University, Polytechnic University of Madrid, and the Social iTV Research Group (from the University of Aveiro).

The SocialiTV group of the Research Centre Digimedia in the University of Aveiro with the special participation of the Network on Applications and Usability of Interactive Digital Television (RedAUTI) invites you to the 9th Iberoamerican Conference on Applications and Usability for Interactive TV (jAUTI’2020).
This edition will be hosted by the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro. Due to the current situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), the conference will be held online on December 18, 2020.

Paper submission: 18th November
jAUTI 2020 accepts papers 4-6 pages (in the LNCS/CCIS one-column page format), both for ongoing work with preliminary results and mature or concluded research.
Admitted languages: English, Portuguese or Spanish.
Best papers will be selected to be extended for the publication Communications in Computer and Information Science CCIS Springer.

Final phase of the SecurHome project

The SecurHome project (http://socialitv.web.ua.pt/index.php/portfolio/securhome/) has entered its final phase, since the field study led by the University of Algarve, which aimed to test the SecurHomeTV ecosystem, ended on September 10th. As the SecurHomeTV was developed by the Social iTV group (DigiMedia), the team followed and supported the logistics and technical issues of this study.
The Social iTV group and the University of Algarve team hope to disseminate the results of this study through a joint publication.

The research team of our group is very dynamic. This is good (since we offer an opportunity for young researchers to improve their skills), but we also feel a bit like "when the kids leave home". We'll miss you, Sylvia.

O grupo Social iTV – DigiMedia irá, brevemente, iniciar um projeto na área do envelhecimento com o título “Aplicação móvel de monitorização da atividade doméstica dos seniores através da televisão: uma abordagem sem alterações ao ecossistema doméstico”. Este projeto faz parte do programa coordenado SECURHOME, o qual integra mais 3 projetos. O Projeto Individual 2, liderado pela Universidade de Aveiro, conta com a participação de vários investigadores do grupo de investigação Social iTV – DigiMedia, e de um investigador da Universidade Carlos III de Madrid, sendo financiado pela Fundação Geral da Universidad de Salamanca, dentro das atividades do Centro Internacional sobre o Envelhecimento (CENIE).

The 97th Tech Day was held under the theme "A new TV experience: UltraTV", a consortium project that brings together Altice Labs, the University of Aveiro and the Telecommunications Institute, co-financed by Compete2020, Portugal2020 and the European Structural Funds and the European Investment Funds. This project aims to develop an ecosystem of interactive TV applications that allows, on the one hand, to support a TV service with the most advanced functionalities on the market and, on the other, to test new models of interaction.
