The new vineyard at Quinta do Soalheiro has been a labour of love, restoring the site which historically had the best local wine. We now have a beautiful site with beautiful views and great wine.

Not just wine and grapes - we have a cornucopia which includes oranges and lemons - some on the same tree. The Pomar das Laranjeiras is so beautiful.....

Portugal is the land of Camellias. we have an ancient tree right next to the Quinta overshadowing the lady of winter and what will be our new breakfast area. We also have a collection from Vilar D'Allen in Porto one of the oldest English gardens in the city.

We couldn't agree more that Route 222 which goes through the amazing Douro Valley and passes the gates of Quinta do Soalheiro near Cinfaes is one of the best in the world. But don't tell anyone as it is very twisty and beautiful....

If you're a triathlete or a walker, the Douro has it all. We'll be looking at loads of things to do, but if you want to walk, cycle, drive or ride few places are better than round Cinfaes. One of the best is up on the moonscape mountains of the Montemuro where you'll fine tiny chapels alongside wind farms. A different world.

And when we said project, I guess that a vineyard was an afterthought. But Quinta do Soalheiro ( Sunny Farm) historically has the best wine of the locality- so work began on planting up 5 hectares of alvarinho. A lot of work to reinstate the vines after some years of neglect and horses.

We've been coming to the Douro for 30 years and we love it. When the family said I needed a new project ( which I definitely didn't) it was obvious where it had to be; the Boas Vistas from Soalheiro of one of the world's great rivers. 6 years on and the project keeps going!
