Português 🇵🇹

In a language
I speak mostly in cafes and restaurants
I feel the most comfortable
Ordering meia de leite
Or filetes de pescada
I can tell you all about
The pastéis de nata
Or arroz doce
I’m a master at asking for
Croissant prensado com queijo
Um café cheio
Uma água com gás
Or galão com cevada

You’ll think I’m a native
Asking for the most Portuguese things
But the truth is
That’s just my comfort zone
I feel the most confident
Asking for drinks and food
Because I’m still not native enough
To express how I feel
To express what I think
To show who I truly am

So I smile and make clumsy jokes
With the waiters
Trying to be myself
But knowing that it would take a while
Knowing that I may never be able
To be effortlessly myself in Portuguese

In the meantime
I’ll enjoy my bifinhos de peru
And my batatas fritas
And I’ll say
Obrigada

A late from our session last month ❣️
I just wanted to remember everyone’s faces cuz it was so special what we did at the end of the book discussion. We all needed to bring a love letter/message and read it out loud which reminded me today how important it is to nourish ourselves and give each other grace 🥰
The book we’re reading next month is “T Train” by Patti Smith and the theme - in literature, so I can’t wait to dive in ✨

so ask yourself

and if the answer
is yes
don’t self-sabotage yourself
but if the answer

it’s time to let go

slowing down

life is a motion
an emotion
almost like an ocean
I live for the moment
with no devotion
to anyone different than me

I seize the day
intuitively moving
surfing
through
life
love
obstacles
friendships

I build my future
in the present
in the now
always
in a hurry
running
late
too busy
to catch my breath

and it’s so hard for me
to slow down my pace
to be grounded
to be with myself
to be happy where I am

the fear of missing out

what am I so afraid to miss out
if I manage to slow down?
