Criar os nossos padrões para Pena não acontece da noite para o dia. É um processo longo que começa com um moodboard das nossas formas e cores favoritas, depois começamos a brincar no Illustrator para montar a nossa própria impressão na qual não conseguimos parar de pensar. Quando estamos satisfeitos, enviamos às gráficas para amostras e te**es de cores, antes de decidirmos pela versão final e imprimirmos um rolo pronto para cortar e costurar!

Esta é uma de nossas impressões atuais e os padrões que a inspiram. É um padrão moderno que chamamos de Traços Florais, inspirado no nosso amor pela natureza. Esperamos que ames tanto quanto nós.

Creating our bespoke patterns for Pena doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long process that usually starts with a mood board of our favourite shapes and colours, then we start playing around in Illustrator to put together our very own print that we can’t stop thinking about. Once we’re happy, it’s off to the printers for samples and colour testing, before we settle on the final version and print off a roll ready to cut and sew!

What is lyocell?

🌱 Also known by its brand names Tencel, Excel Or Newcell, lyocell is a soft, breathable and durable plant-based fibre that has been gaining in popularity lately.

🌸 It's made from the wood pulp from eucalyptus, oak and birch trees, and is produced in a closed-loop process (in which 99% of water and energy is reused), making it a top sustainable fabric choice for designers and wearers.

🌿 Lyocell is also naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, and absorbs up to 60% more liquid than regular cotton (which is why we love it in our cloth pads).

Not our typical colours or snaps. We've just finished up a special order of 10 large pads for a soon-to-be-mum, made from natural linen and our ultra-soft tencel.

Imprimimos os nossos padrões em cetim 100% algodão orgânico (para a camada externa) para tentar produzir os nossos pensos higiênicos da maneira mais sustentável, sem comprometer a qualidade. 🌍

O uso de algodão orgânico significa que podemos reduzir o consumo de água, a degradação do solo, a pegada de resíduos, o excesso de embalagens, bem como melhorar as condições das pessoas que trabalham com o mesmo.

🌱 Why use organic cotton?

We print our patterns onto 100% organic cotton sateen (for the exterior layer) to try and produce our pads in the most sustainable way without compromising on quality. 🌍

Using organic cotton means we can reduce things like water consumption, soil degradation, waste footprint, excess packaging, as well as improve the conditions of the people working with it.

Since 1987, May 28th has been a dedicated global day of action, called Menstrual Hygiene Day, in which organisations around the world work to:

🩸Break the taboos and end the stigma surrounding menstruation

🩸Raise awareness about the challenges regarding access to menstrual products, education about menstruation and period-friendly sanitation facilities

🩸Mobilise the funding required for action at scale

Of course, this important work doesn’t just happen on one day of the year, but we’re using this opportunity to contribute to the 2030 mission of helping to “build a world where no one is held back because they menstruate.”

Desde 1987, o dia 28 de Maio é um dia de ação global dedicado, chamado Dia da Higiene Menstrual, no qual organizações de todo o mundo trabalham para:

🩸Aumentar a conscientização sobre os desafios relacionados ao acesso a produtos menstruais, educação sobre menstruação e instalações sanitárias adequadas para o período menstrual

This is one of our current prints and the patterns it’s inspired by. It’s a bright dotty number we call Kaleidoscope. We hope you love as much as we do.

EN For the all-important inner layers of our pads we use super absorbent fabric called ZORB 3D Bamboo Dimple. Made from a mixture of 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton it’s one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics on the planet and thanks to its innovative dimple texture, it can rapidly absorb and hold fluids.

To be exact, it absorbs 10 times its weight in under 2 seconds and soaks up to 20 times faster than other materials (bamboo, cotton, h**p knits). Basically its perfect to use in reusable pads and our top choice by far!
