Sustainability took centre stage at our event, so we partnered with Nextbitt — a company that has developed innovative solutions to help other companies embrace the Green Digital Transition — to calculate our carbon footprint emissions based on real-time energy and water consumption. 👣

Through advanced IoT technology and data, we gained valuable insights into our event's environmental impact and identified areas for water and energy management improvement. 💡💧

So, we look at these numbers with the certainty that we are moving towards reducing the impact of our events and making the world more efficient and sustainable. 🌍

Shall we dive into the marvellous programme at the Startup World Stage by Galp Upcoming Energies at BTF 24? At this stage, we had three discussion panels and three speakers, and we explored in depth the challenges and opportunities currently affecting startups in Portugal. 💼

We started by looking at startup investment and understanding why 2024 is the year we see a downturn in venture capital. We discovered that Efficiency and AI go hand in hand to enable us to do "more with less" and maintain comfortable margins by scaling the productivity of our businesses. We went on to discuss what it takes to have an effective team and the importance of having a sense of purpose. 🤝

In the afternoon, we discussed the importance of building the business quickly and measuring everything at each startup stage. We also discovered founders' most common mistakes while fundraising and pitching startups to investors and closed with a session that showed us why pricing doesn't necessarily have to equal friction. 🔖

Cara Antoine, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology & Innovation Officer at Capgemini brought us her "bold vision" of how technology can help us recover from health problems and make the world more accessible to everyone with any impairment. 👁️

We had the opportunity to hear about Cara’s personal story about how she lost her sight in one eye on a business trip, which changed her life. She has recovered ever since and embraced her mission to help and empower others through technology and innovation — and, of course, to inspire companies to do the same.

Review this session and discover how innovation guides social progress and the economy (through examples of female power such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or Barbie), but also how its infinite possibilities can help improve our health and future. 🌍

Organizational transformation: this was the key topic at this afternoon's sessions. We talked about the changes that AI is bringing to the world of work, the need to increasingly measure everything, new tools for the future, and the ability of AI-enabled individuals and teams to provide exponential value. 📈

Together with Neil Redding, we explored how the fusion of AI and spatial computing is rapidly bridging the gap between imagination and reality, while Alexia Cambon brought us the influence of AI on productivity, hybrid work design and organizational culture. To close, Ian Beacraft showed us how complex technologies can become understandable and help companies scale their businesses.
