THE YIN RIVER
βYIN always existed as a complement to yang. Yin refers to things that are lower and calmer, to actions that are passive and yielding. The spiritual practice has another metaphor that may be more appealing to us: the flow of a great river, the Yin River, here we find the yinsters
β The journey we are about to embark upon is a yin journey: it is a trip down the YIN River, toward the universal ocean. At the dock, the Buddha is waiting, inviting us to board a ferryboat. The river will carry us; all we need to do is pay attention and steer. Occasionally we will have to manage a few rapids: no activity is ever completely yin, or completely yang. Even if we are climbing the Yang Mountain, there will be yin times to rest and admire the view. As we float down the Yin River, there will be yang bursts of activity and times when we need to make decisions. Occasionally the river will be broad and slow, and we will have time to investigate many interesting sights: these are the yinsights. At other times, the river will narrow and our pace will quicken. We will have less time to investigate the waters around us. Along this journey down the Yin River, side trips will beckon to us: broad lakes and other rivers will appear. We will have the option to explore these new waters or linger in one area for a more thorough investigation. Perhaps we will take up these options right away, or perhaps we will note them for some future investigation. The trip overall will be leisurely. As we journey we will meet many other travellers. The river is broad and, unlike the tiny peek of the Yang Mountain, the Universal Ocean we are heading towards can accommodate everyone. We will, hopefully, come to appreciate the yin side of life, the easy pace of the river, and the breadth of discoveries: (βYinSights: A Journey into the Philosophy of Yin Yogaβ)

It s a new beginning...
Yesterday was the official start of Spring, the northern hemisphere is preparing the Spring Equinox and in Ayurvedic terms, it is the Kapha season. In the last weeks and days, we have been shifting our focus on isolation and inwardness to adapt to the changing situation. Perhaps some of us have taken this challenging situation as an opportunity to reflect on what is really important to us as individuals and as a community and how we want to move on from now. There is no better time than now to adapt, be flexible and define new goals that serve both our personal mission and are sustainable in a global sense.
In Ayurveda, we believe that living in tune with nature is essential to one's well being. Thus, the change of season marks an important time to re-think all aspects of your life. Even if you think that your actions are restricted at the moment, there is plenty to do, feel, think and act upon. To start with I would like to invite all of you who are not familiar with the science of Ayurveda and its relevance in everyday life to start following my little AYURVEDA FOR A NEW START zoom webinars. I have prepared a few topics around this subject, specifically also in relation to the start of the new season and hope that you will benefit and enjoy them.
Please join me fon Tuesday 24th and 31st of March at 3 pm ((Lisbon Time)

Why not try a little Detox Kitchari this weekend? Or maybe your inspiration to start next week lean and clean? I ve found this yummy receipt on a site called "Prana up your Life", tried it and thought I ll share it with you. A Kitchari is usually a very simple soupy dish that consists mainly of Dhal (Beans), optional spices, herbs and a few veggies can be added according to personal preference. You may also prepare your Kitchari for your own Dosha (Bodyconstitution), which is quite simple (see at the bottom). I prefer mine not too bland. And don t forget, if you have some general Ayurvedic related questions (ie how do I know what my Dosha is ?), feel free to share them with me here or via my mail to: [email protected] .
Bon Appetit and a great weekend everyone!
KITCHARI:
1 tbsp Ghee or Coconut oil
1 cup of Mung Beans (Dhal)
1 cup of rice
1 handful of quinoa
1 of each: Zucchini, Carrot, Fennel (also pumpkin works well!)
1/2 tsp Curcuma (optional coriander seeds, cumin seeds) all crashed in a mortar
1 pinch of Asafoetida
A little bit of Lemon or Lime juice & Rock Salt
If u like add a pinch of Curry or Garam Masala Powder
HOW TO PREPARE:
- wash the rice & dhal, cut veggies
- heat oil and add the spices (it gives more taste this way)
- add rice, dhal, quinoa and roast 1-2 min
- add veggies and approx 6 cups of water and cook
- add Asafoetida and cook approx 40 min (with lid), stir occasionally
- add salt and lemon juice as u like it
- opt add some fresh coriander ( I add lots, I love it!)
VATA Dosha:
- use a little less of the beans
PITTA Dosha:
- def add fresh Coriander, maybe 1 tbsp of grated Coconut
KAPHA Dosha:
- add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon or cinnamon bark, 2 whole cardamon seeds
Enjoy and maybe take a photo and send it back to us:-)!
Not guilty! My social media presence has again taken a nosedive but all for a good cause π€©. I 've finally decided to learn to surf π (not SUP surf). The buzz you get when starting sth (almost) new is awesome and thanks to the great coaching from my friends from surf_is_up_portugal, this has been so much fun. I have also realized that I would be in serious muscle pain if it was not for my regular yoga practise that keeps me (reasonably) flexible. Eating well, sleeping enough and doing a massage swap once in a while is all part of the game. It all comes down to . Taking breaks, having fun and return to your office with renewed motivation (to tackle my March Newsletter- yes, I can do it !!! Wish you all a fantastic weekend! π
PS: Please book your Treatments for next week asap, I have 2 pm slots left.
A little Valentine gift inspiration from my heart: the Gift of Listening. Instead of buying chocolates, flowers... offer your time, maybe a cup of tea, a phone call... to a person that is important to you. "Listening is an attitude of the HEART, a genuine desire to be WITH another which both attracts and heals." (J. Isham)
21 degrees today in Lisbon. I think its scary, sth is out of balance here but it feels amazing!
Thanks for being part of this amazing project!
Stay connected, listen, feel and be present. Practising yoga, meditating or simply being surrounded by nature, listening to the sound of animals, waves, trees... always gives me a great sense of connectedness. Even during winter, to catch some sunshine during your lunch break in front of an open window can make a difference. Stay connected.
The Power of Nature. Surrounded by stunning Nature and the sound of monkeys, the connection to myself, others and the universe is very intense.
I m excited about my upcoming holiday! And yes, I know, I have just returned from a trip two weeks ago but it's not the same to travel with a full agenda as it taking a REAL HOLIDAY, without any commitment, only sporadic checks for urgent messages and all the time to do what I LOVE TO DO. Luckily I can say that I 'll not do things so very different than being at home but what it's all about is to de-connect in order to re-connect. To sit somewhere and just contemplate life, to let yourself be inspired by people you meet along the way, to go exploring, enjoy delicious local food, connect with nature and to roll out my yoga mat in some beautiful spot (without having to turn on the heater)...
If you have not yet planned your next trip, think about it. Pre-planing gets you better deals, cheaper flights and - best of all- the sensation of looking forward to a new adventure. Alternatively, spice up your routine by signing up for new yoga lessons or a cooking class or anything else that makes you happy! Treat Yourself.
As I was preparing for my Yin Yoga session later today, I felt inspired by this statement (Sage Roundtree). "Own your power" is a reminder that we often undersell ourselves or imagine that we are still some past versions of ourselves. This isn't t a call to ego; its a call to self-empowerment that can create real change in the world. Go into the weekend with this memory of the freedom of empowerment and deserved self-confidence. Make no apologies. Enjoy your Friday! -care inaction
