🥙🎈🎡🎸 Expofacic is an Agriculture, Commercial and Industrial Fair in central Portugal with 500 exhibition spaces, food stalls and daily live performances in 7 stages.

📣 PAS GRAS organises outreach event for children participating in the ‘GiCo’ pilot study 🥳🔝

📅 On June 15th, in Coimbra (Portugal), twenty researchers will be promoting a fun activity for 30 children and their families, together with the Portuguese Cycling Federation and the ERASMUS + GAMES PLUS Project.

🎈🤸🚴 There will be traditional games and bicycle riding!🔝

🔍 These children are participating in the pilot study ‘GicO - Gymnastics against Obesity’.

‘GicO’ combines , and science and health , and aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of integrated programs in the prevention and treatment of and in children and their families.

🗣️🗨️ In the words of Paulo Oliveira, PAS GRAS coordinator, ”GicO will result in data and in-depth knowledge about contexts and circumstances that influence behaviours associated with the adoption of (un)healthy lifestyles. The study’s collaborative approach is expected to promote programs and circumstances able to prevent and reverse overweight and obesity, providing lifelong health and well-being”.

📣 Today is *National Day for Fighting Against Obesity* in Portugal, home to PAS GRAS’s lead institution, University of Coimbra.

To celebrate this day, PAS GRAS proudly presents the undergoing pilot study: ‘GicO - Gymnastics against Obesity’ 👏💪

Thirty-four children aged 6-7 are taking part in this study, aimed at developing integrated programs to prevent and treat overweight and obesity in children and their families.

✅ Initially, participants undergo a series of assessments, including physical, functional, and body composition tests.

✅ Using a co-creation approach, researchers develop a program, which includes literacy and physical activities, built from their interaction with the children.

✅ Over the course of 1.5 years, the tests will be repeated at three different time points to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

Collaboration of European Projects Advances Personalised Solutions for Obesity The urgency for immediate action in combating the global obesity crisis has never been more apparent. According to recent data, over 2.5 billion adult....

🚀 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 🌍

✅ Due to its unique interdisciplinary approach, PAS GRAS is expected to contribute to the 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 by 15% in adults and 30% in children/adolescents in the EU by 2050.

📣 Last week, PAS GRAS researcher and management board member Eugénia Carvalho promoted a meeting to talk about her project to communities to prevent and treat in Guinea-Bissau.

📈 Preliminary results from this nationwide study - the first of its kind in Guinea-Bissau - indicate high rates of , type 2 , and .

The project includes screening for in individuals aged 18 or older, as well as health literacy and capacitation interventions, in collaboration with the National Diabetes Clinic.

This project was funded by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes and, more recently, by the Camões Institute.

Last week’s meeting was important to connect with interested in collaborating with the project.

🚀 Over 4.000 people have been screened so far, and the project is expected to reach of people again this year, with a significant on health promotion in Guinea-Bissau.

Earlier this year, Eugénia Carvalho also presented the results from this unprecedented project at the 2nd Diabetes National Meeting in Guinea-Bissau.
