‘Barely lived ever after’ is not just a a treat of a novel, it is a rare page turner that is as well written as it is stacked by the author. Soumen Ghosh, in his very first book, has hit the ball out of the park. His story telling has the rarity of old school thrill that effortlessly settles into a contemporary setting, comprising of characters who are real flesh & blood, like people you feel you ‘know’, and not just implants to drive a point home. Like many great contemporary novelists, Soumen walks the perfect balance of teasing the readers, making them guess what’s coming & then gently lead them on. This is a must read if you love good story telling & a style of writing that is relatable as well as rich. I wish Soumen the very best and will wait eagerly for his next !

Through the windowpanes in my quarters, I could see trees bathing in the rain, cleaning their dusty leaves off, and I felt the droplets wash away my depression a little. The visuals outside were like a painter’s canvas, changing colors and form with each stroke of the brush, and my core inner self was changing as well. Words have the power to move the world, And written words can do wonders. They provoke thoughts and inspire actions. Fiction liberates the author to paint characters with the color of his wish. I tried to tell a story full of the essence of life. When living becomes a struggle, even the best of us crumble, and few of us rise above it and shape our destiny. As you flip through the pages, amidst the present dark and gloomy situation that the global pandemic bestowed upon us, you might see a glimmer of hope, a tiny little light at the end of the tunnel. I am cautiously avoiding the "C" word here, as it has become the most dreaded word lately.

A book was brewing inside me in the past 21 years of my living self. And finally, it was written during 21 days of isolation. The floodgate opened during a time of global crisis, as a result of introspection in the solitude.

It goes without saying, I love every 50K odd words that went into the book, it is usual and exclusive love affair between the author and the book. And I hope you will love it as well. As the first novel, it was not difficult to tell other's stories; it was somewhat difficult not to narrate mine. So, I consciously choose characters utterly opposite of mine. Still, I believe you will find yourself somewhere in the characters, as I could see myself in some of them.

Let us begin our journey & get acquainted with some of the flawed and imperfect characters who tried to live their lives in their own ways. That's what we all are doing. That's what we all are, flawed & imperfect in our own ways. Perfectly imperfect or Imperfectly perfect, as the situation demands.

I would like to thank my friends & the experts who took the pain to read the manuscript painstakingly and offered suggestions for betterment. Thanks to Notion Press for their professional approach to make this book see the light of the day.

I hope you will enjoy the journey the book will take you to. Word of caution: It will be a rough & bumpy ride all throughout. And as the problem was unique, the solution had to be one of its kind.
