Invisible Cities - The Defence Wall

A vision based on iTALO cALVINO book, "Invisible Cities". The proposed series of images follows a thin line of understanding and interpreting the cities described in Clavino's book.

"The book explores imagination and the imaginable through the descriptions of cities by an explorer, Marco Polo. The book is framed as a conversation between the aging and busy emperor Kublai Khan, who constantly has merchants coming to describe the state of his expanding and vast empire, and Polo. The majority of the book consists of brief prose poems describing 55 fictitious cities that are narrated by Polo, many of which can be read as parables or meditations on culture, language, time, memory, death, or the general nature of human experience."

From Homer to Waterhouse, from Dante to Disney, one thing seems certain: men fear that women can only add to the inherent dangers of large bodies of water… Yet we cannot help ourselves but wish sirens and mermaids into existence, only to use them as either cautionary tales, or escapist entertainment! We most certainly can't stop gazing! John William Waterhouse clipped their wings between 1891 and 1900. The Disney franchise milked (sic!) that lavender proto-bikini in a fashion that probably made Jean Paul Gaultier purple with envy! Dante one-upped them all in “Purgatory” (Canto XIX): his chimeric construct conjures up a crone who cajoles his gaze with her crooning into considering her charming...

We are launching now, for the first time, an OPEN CALL for professional and amateur FINE ART MINIMALIST PHOTOGRAPHERS around the world, for Minima book Vol. 2, which will be published in the mid of the year 2024 by God Publishing House in Portugal.

Întregi cm am spus că eram dintru început și nu despărțiți în propria noastră ființă, despicați, pentru încumetarea noastră, de către Zeus […]. Este, așadar, de temut ca nu cumva, dacă vom greși față de zei, să fim despicați încă o dată, ca niște arșice, astfel încât să umblăm, asemenea oamenilor care se văd din profil, în basorelief, pe pietrele de mormânt, tăiați de sus în jos pe linia nasului.” (Platon, Banchetul, traducere de Petru Creția, Humanitas, 2011, 192e-193a, pg. 116)

Aceasta nu este o fotografie fortuită. Aceasta este o conspirație. De când îl cunosc, orașul meu își tot calchiază caduc calcanele, într-un concert al contingențelor convalescenței postcomuniste. E o citadelă în care împreună pare că și-a etalonat idealul via ”Sărutul” lui Brâncuși, într-o disperare calmă, într-un er***sm cumpănit; se întregește printr-o strânsură sinonimă cu o prinsoare, doar că ”signalectica” sa pare ciungă și famelică, cerșind un ecleraj anacronic. Greu de găsit brațe arhitecturale care să unească repere și puncte de vedere! Aceasta nu este o fotografie din orașul meu...(...)

“HALIT – pour la bonne bouche construit... ”

… de fapt, săpat, nu neapărat construit, fiindcă înainte să asamblăm în, pe lângă sau cu sare (și cm am putea să nu evocăm aici interiorul Turnului din Arles, inaugurat anul trecut cu pompă și o țâră de scandal de Frank Gehry?), trebuie să o străpungem. Asta e, totuși, altceva decât a construi, i.e., a ridica! Însă ne e, oricum, mai la îndemână, mai familiar: înainte să începem să metabolizăm cu beton armat și sticlă, am căutat siguranța grotelor. Nu ar trebui, deci, să ne surprindă senzația de liniște (când intrăm) amestecată cu tremor (când privim în jos) și parestezie (când privim în sus) pe care o trăim și astăzi când ne adâncim într-o salină cm e cea din Turda. Astăzi, adică într-un nou val pandemic SARS-COV2. Dacă ceva din arhitectură devine „fruct interzis” în timpul oricărui asediu, acest ceva se numește loisir populat. Arhitectura spațiilor temporar animate, cea care vorbește mai mult despre vizitatorii săi decât despre propria geneză (deseori financiar disproporționată), cea care „telefonează” cel mai ușor endorfinelor și serotoninei, cea care ne facem să ne strângem unii într-alții cm numai spaimele mai sunt în stare – despre ea vorbim aici...
