WASOG Conference 2022

🔥🔥𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 – “𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞” 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧!

Radu Crisan, Claudiu Iordache, Ionela Belaconi, Tudor Constantinescu and Daniel Traila presented their interesting cases and Irina Strâmbu, Ulrich Costabel, Daniel Trăilă discussed together all these cases.
We thank our chairs: Tudor Constantinescu and Dragos Bumbacea.

We end the WASOG Conference with satisfaction and the joy that we had the chance to meet in Romania and get updated with the latest news from our field.

🔸Systemic diseases and ILDs session started with 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐮 followed by 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐚 – 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐧 – 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐝 and their perspective on CTD-ILDs.
𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐧 introduced us to the subject of Antisynthetase syndrome.

Very comprehensive presentations with a lot of useful information.

🗣Last day of WASOG Conference started with a session dedicated to ILDs and more.
𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 joined us online and talked about the Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis: on the verge of a breakthrough.
𝐓𝐮𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮 went on with a talk on ILDs and pulmonary hypertension.
Non-pharmacological treatments ILDs were revealed by 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐮 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬̦𝐚𝐧 and 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐚 touched a very interesting subject, Lung transplant for ILDs.

The session was chaired by Daniel Trăilă and Antigona Trofor.

🔸Second session of sarcoidosis of the day.
𝐃𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 opened the discussion on Extrapulmonary sarcoidosis, followed by 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐧 with his two presentations: Diagnosis: when biopsy is not needed, New treatments in sarcoidosis.

Pharma session - 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 symposium with 𝐊𝐢𝐲𝐨𝐦𝐢 𝐊𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢 and Robert Baughman from USA and their speech on the evaluation of an Anti-GM-CSF Monoclonal Antibody (Namilumab) in a Phase 2 Pulmonary Sarcoidosis Trial.
The session was chaired by 𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐮.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis session is on!🔥
𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐨𝐳𝐢𝐚𝐫 -𝐕𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐯𝐚, an expert of HP, introduced us to the subject with her presentation "Practical approach to diagnosis and treatment of HP in the light of new guidelines."
𝐔𝐥𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 joined us online and talked about BAL in HP (and other ILDs). 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐎𝐭̦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚 went on with her discussion on Occupational ILDs.

🔸Sarcoidosis session, on third day of WASOG Conference.
𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚̂𝐦𝐛𝐮 started the session talking about the New guidelines in sarcoidosis and was followed by 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐦𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐡 with his talk on CT patterns in sarcoidosis.
Last but not least, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐣𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 offered a very comprehensive speech on Impact and limitations of sarcoidosis.

🧬The day continued with Astra Zeneca Pharma Symposium about Re – evaluating mortality in COPD, performed by 𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚̂𝐦𝐛𝐮.

📣Third day of WASOG Conference just started with a session dedicated to ILDs and post Covid with 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 and her presentation on ERS Task Force on Post-Covid ILDs.
𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐚 continued with an overview on Clinical, morphological and radiological features of Post-covid ILDs. Afterwards, 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮 revealed the Romanian perspective on Post-Covid ILD. 𝐎𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐮 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐥𝐚̆𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮 ended the session with this perspective on Telemedicine and Covid-19.

🧬𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐞𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 - 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬: 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 started with the introduction of 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐣𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐤 and the interactive presentation of 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 about the importance for the patients with ILD to receive an accurate differential diagnosis.
𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐣𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐤 aimed to answer if: There are multiple drugs approved to treat PF ILD – Myth or fact? involving the participants through live voting.
The session was interactive and filled with important information for the future practice.

🤓ILDs: Early diagnosis session started with 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢 and her presentation on Interstitial lung abnormalities.
𝐖𝐢𝐦 𝐖𝐮𝐲𝐭𝐬 continued the session with his extensive knowledge on Early diagnosis for ILDs.

👨‍⚕️Patient organizations session welcomed Liam Galvin and Steve Jones from Ireland and also Robert Arsene from Romania, who talked about the latest news on patient organizations and what is the perspective on the subject after COVID19 pandemic.

🖥👀 The poster session just started with a lot of interest and curiosity for the cases.

🥁Second day of WASOG Conference continued with a session on 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬.
The session was opened by 𝐀𝐳𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐚 with his presentation on Acute exacerbations in pulmonary fibrosis and was followed by 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐑𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐮 who talked about IPF diagnosis: guideline recommendations.
In the second part of the session, 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 offered the participants an answer to the question "Primary and secondary UIP: a unified diagnostic entity?" and 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐣𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐤 ended the session with a talk on the Advances in non-IPF pulmonary fibrosis.

🤩Second day of WASOG Conference kicked off with 𝐏𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 - 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.
𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐮 discussed about Novel insights into pathogenesis and was followed by 𝐉𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 who revealed extremely interesting insights on Genetics in ILDs.
The session continued with the online intervention of 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 on Biomarkers of progression and was concluded by 𝐑𝐨𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬̦ with her presentation on Cardiac consequences of pulmonary fibrosis.

We started the WASOG Conference with two educational and useful workshops.
🗣The first workshop was about "Imaging patterns in ILDs" conducted by Helmut Prosch and Athir Eddan and about "How imaging patterns are integrated in MDD" by Athol Wells.
🗣The second educational workshop focused on "Cryobiopsy – guidelines, tips and tricks" by Venerino Poletti and on "Which patients should undergo cryobiopsy" by Ionela Belaconi and Silviu Dumitru.

𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐮 is one of our speakers at WASOG Conference 2022.
She is Professor in Respiratory Medicine and Head of the Molecular and Cellular Pneumonology Laboratory at the School of Medicine, University of Crete, Greece. She is the Chair of Public Relationship Committee for the Medical School and was recently elected member of the Executive WASOG committee and Head of the ERS Assembly 12 for Interstitial lung diseases (mandate from September 2021).
Her main goal is prioritizing patient-centered domains into clinical care and research and improving patients’ quality of life and functional status. Dr Antoniou’s current research focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of Pulmonary Fibrosis while her laboratory group is evaluating alveolar macrophage phenotypes and function, mitochondrial homeostasis, oxidation status and the inflammasomes with multiple publications in the field.

We continue our speakers presentation with Sara Tomassetti, from Florence, Italy.
Sara Tomassetti is currently an Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Florence University, Italy, and Head of Interventional Pulmonology Unit at Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy.
She has extensive clinical and research experience in interstitial lung diseases and interventional pulmonology. She is a faculty member of the European Respiratory Society, member of the ERS guidelines task force, BOND National member for Italy of the European Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and member of the executive committee of the Italian Thoracic Society (AIPO-ITS).
From a clinical research perspective, she has been the primary investigator (PI) of several sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials on diagnosis and treatment of interstitial lung diseases and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Professor Martina Koziar Vasakova graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of Charles University in Prague.
🫁She obtained attestations from internal medicine, tuberculosis and respiratory disease (now pneumology and ftizeology), allergology and clinical immunology, specialization in bronchology and license in interventional bronchology. She was appointed as a professor of internal medicine in 2015.
As of 2016, she is the head of Department of Pneumology First Faculty of Medicine Charles University and Thomayer Hospital.
Professor Martina Koziar Vasakova is the President of the Committee of the Czech Pneumological and ftizeological Society, Head of the International Registry of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis – EMPIRE, member of the board of the Czech Asthma Initiative, Member of the Council of Immunology Charles University and Member of other Czech and international societies.
